The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"Ok, due to service would not come back. Our party spent around 600 pounds for 1 night inc a meal and I would have expected better for this. " (108501221)
We had dinner in the hotel which was nice. The service was not great however. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were clean.
Staff appeared poorly trained and service was not of a good standard. At both meal times service was slow and disorganised. My partner actually went to the spar next door to buy orange juice at breakfast after waiting for over 10 minutes for the jug we had ordered (did appear on the table 10 mins later)

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"Adequate but not good value for money" (108265520)
Pleasant staff - good location
The car park was not easy to find but a helpful local directed us. Everywhere in the hotel looked tired. We had insufficient toilet paper for our 1 night stay. The shower ran off the bath taps so the temperature and flow was inconsistent. Our room was cramped with an extra bed & TV in the way of the dressing table. The breakfast waitress was pleasant but inexperienced in pre-empting our needs. For example, we had to ask for toast, and tomato sauce which came in a small bowl without a spoon so we used our teaspoons.

The small restaurant and bar providing a sensibly small range of dishes, excellent quality together with real ales too. The room was surprisingly spacious for such an old building (17th century), with en-suite truly a separate room en-suite, rather than built in to a corner
The small, rather temperamental TV, wasn't such a bad point, since we weren't there to watch TV. The distance to the car park might have been awkward if it had rained, but right in the middle of town, couldn't really expect any better

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"Unfamiliar with the city and other accommodations available. Hotel chosen was lovely, charming, comfortable and very clean in appearance. Very nice restaurant. Probably was competitively priced. " (108316651)
First time in European accommodations. Accommodations were comfortable and adequate but much smaller than expected when compared to comparably priced American accommodations.
Displeasing smell in the stairwell area "needed" to access rooms above ground floor. Hotel was chosen due to our need for wireless internet access. However, it was not accessible at all times from our room which, in our case, was very disappointing and reason enough to consider not staying at this hotel again in the future.

Resturant food better than overall quality of hotel.
No hot water in hotel for 24 hours? Electric shower underpowered.

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"Considering it was a winters rainy day and everywhere in the town looked rather depressing my stay was okay, not great but okay. May have been different if more people had been in the hotel to give it a buzz." (107800734)
Comfortable, quiet and clean.
Diffilculty in finding car park in the dark and rain and did not get easier having been shown where it was on a map! That may have been me after a long journey but the sign not lit up. With only two people in the resturant for an evening meal I think the service although pleasent enough, was a little slow. Food okay but too much butter with the fish!

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"It is a listed building in a lovely Devon village." (97089287)
Friendly and helpful staff that keeps a clean, fresh hotel in an English market town. The food was very good, although there are plenty of choose to eat out if you so wish.
The water pressure is a little weak for a vigorous shower but ample for a bath.

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"The single room I had been given was extremely small, I asked to change, and was given a bigger double, (but had to pay extra). Dining room attractive, but whole hotel had an air of faded grandeur. Stair carpets worn on edges, paintwork peeling. Bedroom clean and acceptable, large bathroom, but shower in bath. Meal/breakfast OK, but no finesse. Staff friendly." (97445595)
Very quiet - only two single persons in the whole hotel.
Difficult to find car park behind hotel down a dark alley.

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"It was a bit basic for the money. Bathroom a bit poor - plastic glasses for instance. Breakfast staff quite slow and disorganised and did not explain the breakfast choices really. We just guessed on a full english ?" (99424017)
Decent hotel for an overnight stay. Checki in OK, room passable, bed OK. Enough hot water etc
No lifts to top floor so carrying suitcases a bit of a struggle.

The George Hotel, South Molton - Reviews & Ratings"I was very pleased with my stay at the George Hotel and look forward to another visit when in the area." (99881083)
I found the owners of the hotel very friendly, as were the staff. The evening meals were of a very high standard and the selection of real ales in the bar varied and well kept.
The breakfast could be more varied with fresh fruit or yogurts options.
