"Water not working - when I mentioned it the next day the staff knew this but we were not told prior to taking the room." (97674774)

Quirky. Decent sized room. Good breakfast

Nowhere near Cannock Chase. 5-acre grounds not apparent - close to main road.

"It is planned as having restaurant facitities. This is acctually an Indian restaurant next door. I do not like Indian food and would NOT have booked this hotel if I knew that this was the only meal facility" (97382035)

    Pleasant and easy to find.

Shower did not work. No indication of breakfst times and then on enquiry at 08.45 told we had 10 mins or so. One big room as dining room and there was a business meeting starting so the leisurely breakfast we had planned did not happen. We felt that we were in the way.

"The place was more of a B&B then a hotel. Some rooms were undergoing refurbishment during our stay. There was a hole in the ceiling where it had been recently rewired. The proprieter (staff) were informal, but very friendly and helpful." (97279428)

The curtains were very nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. The log fire was very welcoming and the lounge area very nice.

The room was in need of decoration and the shower room could be better equipped (with shelves, hooks and towel rail).

Clean comfortable room in a quirky old building. Excellent breakfast cooked by a friendly host.

No hairdryer, TV remote didn't work. Description said in own grounds but the building was on a busy main road.

"This is a B & B rather than a hotel. The beds were comfortable, but the bedrooms and bathrooms need updating and the towels (thin and frayed) and sheets replacing. The single room is very small and has no window. The details say there are 5 acres of grounds - there is a lawn which is a children's play area, but nothing else that we could find. The staff were very helpful and friendly and it suited our requirements, but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic week end break." (97302592)

"We booked a luxury double room with four poster bed. The room also contained a single bed which made conditions cramped. No adequate facilities for storing clothes. Two tiny hanging rails tucked away in a tiny alcove behind the kettle, not enough space to hang a dress or full length coat. The drawers available were either in a desk which had loose screws and wood inside them or else a couple of small drawers in the little melamine chest (with broken handle) which the kettle stood on. Small bathroom with shower had nowhere at all to put any toiletries. Only bath towels provided (no hand towels). Some glasses would have been useful too, to use for cold drinks or teeth cleaning. Disappointing for a luxury room." (99548583)

The staff were all friendly and helpful. Nice location. Good breakfast.

The room was cramped and shabby.

"Overall, I would say that Featherstone Farm is not a hotel but a B&B. There was no public lounge, only a breakfast room. Decorations were tired, the carpet dirty and the bedlinen very dated. The integral shower room was tiny. My room had an enormous four-poster bed and a single bed in it making it quite cramped. It would have been very tight for three people. New owners were very pleasant and perhaps they have plans to renovate." (99252318)

"Homely feel to the hotel, staff made you feel at home, very clean and a very good breakfast. Sign posting on main road could be better, there is a sign but it is not clear as to how you turn off the main road, as entrance road is parallel to main road." (3304996679)

Homely feel to the hotel, staff made you feel at home, very good breakfast.

No table for laptop, but I did not ask for one as I was only staying one night.

"As previously mentioned we did not stay after viewing the accommodation. The hotel staff were advised of our complaint before departing." (3304918315)

Firstly,we did not stay after being shown our room. It was obvious that the room had not been properly prepared after the previous occupant. One of the beds had obviously not had the bedding changed and the other beds did not look fresh. The duvet covers looked as if they were never changed between occupants. In the bathroom the waste bin had not been emptied, among other things there was a used tea bag and lying on the window cill there was a used tissue. The kettle was covered in dust which needed a thorough soapy wash. The wash basin in the bathroom was the type you would expect to find in a small cloakroom and not suitable for normal ablutions. When the water was run unexplained banging noises were heard. The overall appearance of the room was dingy and unattractive. This was referred to in the description as a country hotel but the facilities would at best be of an average B & B standard at a hotel price.

"To be honest, I think the hotel tries to pitch itself at the wrong market. The hotel is cosy, friendly and welcoming. However, although there are some lovely pieces of furniture and lovely grounds, reading the hotel details on-line gave the impression of a much 'grander' hotel. The rooms are showing signs of wear and tear and little things like the bed linnen didn't match the decor of the room at all - a four poster bed but with patterned and faded duvet cover - didn't really seem in keeping with the description of a luxury room. The price range of the hotel does give an honest reflection of what I expected to find and I felt happy enough with the accommodation and felt it was value for money. I just think it either needs to smarten up slightly, or adjust it's review to emphasise the welcoming atmosphere and cosy feel, rather than try and make it sound like a hotel aimed at those wishing for a high standard of room and facilities which I think may leave guests feeling slightly disappointed." (3304918485)

The friendly atmosphere was lovely and the atmosphere was cosy.

There were a couple of bits that needed repairing in the room (though, it was explained someone was coming to fix them, they just hadn't managed to get there in time for our stay).

"The entrance was a bit difficult to find - as it was daylight when I arrived I was able to ask a passerby, but if it was later on in the evening I think I would be a bit worried as I was travelling alone. On my first night the room I stayed in could be regarded as 'adequate' and I had no problems. However, the next morning after a nice breakfast I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the room the manager invited me to move to contained a lovely four poster bed - it was like sleeping on a cloud! A+ The breakfast was really good. Not sure if it was in a smoking or non-smoking room though but it was fine as it was very quiet. The decor in the lounge area was very nice, however, it was a smoking room and there was internet access available. Thought the staff were very polite & friendly - would definitely recommend and look forward to my next visit." (3304368465)

Staff were friendly and very helpful. On the second night my room was changed to a really lovely one with a four poster bed - all at the unction of the manager who I thought was very kind. :)

    1. Bathroom (in first room) was a little cold - it was snowing though. However, the room was lovely & toasty!! 2. Don't think much can be done about slightly creaky floorboards - all in character with the sweet cottages I think ;)

"Really good place and excellent for us as a stopover en route to Scotland, would definitely use again. People were very helpful, e mailing us to point out that they do not do evening meals, but gave us phone number of Indian restaurant on same site. Very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Lovely residents lounge complete with open fire, very welcoming. Easy to find from the M6, but lovely and quiet, good night's sleep." (2888578)

Small, friendly hotel. We wanted to break our journey from Weymouth to Scotland & this was the perfect location, only about 1 mile from M6 & easy to find. very quiet & peaceful location.

1 minor detail re directions, we parked in carpark for Indian restaurant which is on same site. Would be useful to add that you go beyond the restaurant then turn first right, but this is nit-picking!

"I was kept awake by snoring in a different room (below #8?). The bathroom facility was poor. The bath took ages to fill and there was no flow at all for about 5 minutes - luckily I was not in a hurry at the time; and the shaver socket didn't work at all - broken. Not what I'd call value for money - more like a guesthouse in feel and quality but charging £50 for a single room (admittedly larg-ish). Also the bathroom was not en-suite in that it was outside the bedroom's locked door - very odd!" (1872768)

I would liked to have known about the difficulty of getting a table at the restaurant and given the opportunity of booking a table in advance. However there were other pubs in the area offering food, but it was late we had travelled far and we didn't want to drink and then do more driving. The water in the shower was tepid and shower was diffult to operate with the heat selector falling off." (1569734)

"Perhaps we were there at low season but would class this venue as a b&b as opposed to a hotel. The owner was very helpful and organised taxis for us. The only downside was the room. We only required a double but had an additional single bed in the room which made the room unnecessarily cramped. Also the bathroom / shower room could do with a make over - carpet on the floor of a very small shower room. A dressing table of some sort with a mirror would have been nice as it was difficult to get ready for the wedding as the only mirror was in the small cramped shower room." (1505427)

Helpfulness of staff and location to wedding venue

Bathroom (shower room) needed some updating. Only mirror was in bathroom.
