Hotel was very clean and food was good(Breakfast) we were staying in Taunton to be with our son who was on a cricket tournament with Worcesterhire County so we found the hotel close to the venue as it was at Kings and in its favour very comfortable.

"Information on the bus service before travelling would have been useful." (99677744)

Lovely old hotel. The bedroom decoration was in a country cottage style to a high standard. The gardens and patio area were very attractive. Owner and staff very welcoming and helpful.

It is a disadvantage not being able to have an evening meal at the weekend although there was a nice pub opposite. Also while there was a bus into the town centre, it did not run in the evenings or on Sunday. It meant a lot of taxi rides as we travelled by public transport.

    Charming, discression

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

The approach of the owner's wife who was pleasant friendly and happy to cook food as you wished it. Also the hotel's eclectic style - quite a gem in that respect

The room was very dark - the only window was completely covered with creeper - a light would be needed even at midday - having said that the room and ensuite were very clean and comfortable - I guess this was the 'one night' room

The bed was excellent, very comfortable. The staff had time to talk to the guests and were very helpful.

The shower leaves a lot to be disired!! We gave up with it and took baths instead.

Not the most powerful shower in the world.

"This is everything anyone could want from a hotel. The hotel is an old (1600's) building which has been wonderfully utilised. There are stairs but they are shallow and there is a landing. Our room, although small, had a genuine half tester bed and the abundance of cream and white cushions really made it welcoming and luxurious. The bed was as comfortable as it promised to be and we did not hear any outside noise. I spent an hour sitting in the deep window seat enjoying my holiday novel. The tiny bathroom was fitted with top grade fittings and hand stencilled decoration. The room had tea and coffee making facilities and a small LCD television. We had our evening meal at the hotel and it was of top quality restaurant standard. I had the cheese souffl" (99027405)

The Dandy Dinmont terriers were a added bonus to the experience." (99908962)

"I picked this hotel from Actives Selection of hotels in Taunton, and was extremly pleased with my choice. This hotel has everything a traveller requires, clean rooms, great food, fantastic owners, and a very cosmopolition clientele, the night I stayed, there was about 4 different nationalities, who amazingly all got on very well in the well stocked bar.For those individuals who like good Scotch, this is the place to visit,I counted al least 100 varities in the bar.In summary this hotel is the Jewel Hotel in Somerset, and I will certainly return, with my wife and family." (3304370136)

The accomadation was to a very high standard,I stay in Hotels 5nights a week, and this hotel was real value for money.

There was no areas for improvement, this hotel is run to a very high standard,by its owners, who you should try and have a conversation with, very interesting couple.

"I would have liked to have known how charming the Meryan House is. As it was I booked online and my wife and I were delighted when we arrived. Excellent village location close to Taunton and the beautiful Quantock hills. Fabulously clean, beautifully decorated, charming owners, great egg and bacon. My wife and I stay in hotels a lot. If you want a really charming English olde-world style place you won't get anything better than the Meryan House for similar money." (3304336334)

Old fashioned atmosphere. Open fires. Excellent decor. Friendly and welcoming.Very romantic place, but also great if you are on business. Forget the Holiday Inn! Excellent value for money too.

The web site does not do the hotel justice. Its better!

"Very pleasant and enjoyable stay made very welcome on arrival" (2695679)

The old world feel about the place the view of the Quantock hills

Breakfast menu needs perhaps to be a little more varied would have been nice to have one or two alternatives to the english breakfast eg Haddoch & poached egg I know people can ask but there was nothing to indicate that a change to the menu was possible.

"The paved gardens were very pleasant to walk in and as my room was at the rear it was quiet. Breakfast was excellent. The internet site could show internal shots and not just the exterior view of the front - delightful as it is." (2779353)

    Friendly, cosy not stark.

The car park was a tad 'crowded'. Perhaps fewer spaces would aid manoeuvring. Ground floor toilets could be extended as there were insufficient facilities when a function is being held.

"This really was an excellent hotel, with a wonderful atmosphere. The quality of the breakfast and accomodation was superb. The only thing we would like to have known in advance is when the restaurant was open." (2634336)

An excellent room with very friendly and professional staff in a relaxed atmosphere. The bathroom was excellent.

It would have been appropriate if we had been informed in advance that the restaurant would not be open on the night we stayed.

"PERHAPS THE MENU FOR THE EVENING MEAL COULD BE DISPLAYED OR BE PUT INTHE ROOM. THE EASY ALTERNATIVE IS TO GO ACROSS THE ROAD TO THE PUB WHICH I AM SURE IS NOT WHAT THE HOTEL WANT. I WAS INTERESTED IN THE HOTEL HISTORY, INCLUDING THE PRIEST HOLE FIND ETC. A BRIEF HISTORY TO READ WOULD BE OF GENERAL INTEREST. ROOM VERY COMFORTABLE ESPECIALLY AS I PREFER CHARACTER TO MARBLE AND SHINY CHROME. IF THE MEETING I ATTENDE IS SUCCESSFUL I LOOOK FORWARD TO A RETURN" (2714428)

Clean hotel, full of genuine old character. Excellent breakfast and friendly service

Very good service friendly and informative.

Decor- Fusty and dated The canopy over the bed was form over substance, the carpet in the bathroom is unhygenic. The hotel generally was overpoweringly cluttered with a mish mash of styles. The smell of past cooking pervaded on entry to departure.
