Friendly people
I checked with staff on two occasions and promised that I could get a cold breakfast at 6.45am (Cereal) so I could leave for work sharp at 7am, but at 7am building was still locked up and no sign of life . . . . left the hotel hungry and thirsty. A small point but the rather old TV only worked on two channels and the remote control was falling apart. Only a single hanger in the wardrobe. Room looked a little 'tired', and the bed 'dipped' in the middle meaning my partner and I clashed heads in the night on more than one occassion.

TV channels did not work. There was no information in the room about breakfast times, check out time etc. Expensive.

Room was very warm when we arrived and it was only having the window and curtains open day and night that kept it at a decent temperature.

Dear little sitting room very useful for calming early morning nerves! Good breakfast on hot plates and helpful staff. Nice walk to the field overlooking hotel and town.
Only two teabags on our tea tray so we had to share and re-use them. The noise of someone's bathroom fan caused an overnight disturbance.

The bedroom was clean, as was the all the linen. The staff were friendly and did there best to make us feel welcome. The sheets were crisp and clean, as were the fresh white towels. Scrambled egg lovely!
There was a 'teddybear' on our bed - unwelcome guest! The bathroom taps were in poor condition: the top fell of of ours while we were there. The curtains did not close properly. The television was of poor standard and had no remote. There were no 'herb' teas in the bedroom. The breakfast coffee was haphazard, ie: my pot of coffee was far too strong, my friend's was far too weak. Some of the cups were dirty and had to be replaced.

Nice clean room and an excellent breakfast.
Not so much a 'bad' point, but the bath actually being 'in' the bedroom was a little unusual. I know its a country hotel, but the maids could do with looking 'up' when dusting . . . . . HUGE cloud of cobwebs over the window.

Food was excellent. Cleanliness was more than acceptable, but not perfect. Fantastic old building with loads of character.
Kettle lead didn't connect properly to kettle. Shower was on the chilly side with little pressure. Dining room smelled of damp.

sheets not changed, room not serviced once in a three night stay!!! dripping tap in bathroom, window not shut fully staff unhelpful and not welcoming, residents bar shut with not service past 11pm

Room decor!! Even just painting them plain white would be such an improvement - the wall paper is horific. Also - Dusting!

Breakfast really good, room very well decorated, pleasant staff and a good bar.
Car parking a bit tight for a large car. The room got hot as the window could only be left open a little way.

Good hotel, outstanding staff. And the building is beautiful.
The room was too hot for me to sleep well. I acknowledge this is an area in which no hotel can possibly please everybody, though it would have helped if the towel-heater was controllable, so I could have turned it off. This may, from memory, also apply to the radiator but my recollection is not good on the radiator. Still a good hotel though, with great staff.

After returning later in the day the bed had not been made and room not cleaned. Also tiles were coming off around the bath. When going down for breakfast only 1 table was laid, so had to share with other people. No complaints about the breakfast itself.

Before our stay we had made a reservation for an evening meal in the restaurant, but unfortunately due to improvements being made in there, we were asked if we minded if we ate in the Bistro. A little disappointing, but we were found a nice table and were served very quickly and efficiently. The meal was superb so no complaints whatsoever. The full English Breakfast in the morning was also excellent. The George Hotel is certainly a place to return to if we happen to pass that way again. I will definitely recommend it to friends and family." (97879158)
The room was spotless and welcoming. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful
The mattress on the bed was a little too hard for our liking. Our friend had a back problem so she especially found it so. It was O.K. for one night though

The George Hotel, Castle Cary - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel could be really nice, but is very much in need of refurbishment - there are plenty of other small properties with much more up-to-date decor and fixtures and fittings in the region who are charging the same price, so it was quite dissappointing that the hotel is so behind the times. It is well situated in the lovely town of Castle Cary and is a super old inn - it just needs bringing up to date." (97049357)
The staff were friendly and helpful; the hotel is really well situated in Cary and as we were visiting family in the town it was convenient for us.
The hotel could do with being refurbished - both the bar/breakfast area and the bedrooms.
