"A comfortable two night stay." (97668213)

Centrally situated, convenient car parking, good breakfast (apart from the music)

Room not properly cleaned during stay. This problem took a little time to resolve.

"Staff not very friendly or helpful. Quite basic facilities and poor maintenance. This could be an amazing place but it is poorly run and maintained. They have painted fake panelling and columns in the reception hallway which is staggering considering everything else is original. But a genuine medieval inn with four poster beds so well worth a visit but I wouldn't stay for more than a night." (97531799)

Traditional character medieval inn. 4 poster bed. Good beer.

Hard/lumpy bed. Dark room. Faulty electrics and plumbing. Cold as central heating was not on.

"This place has so much character. The Abbot Selwood room is very generous with four poster bed, views onto the high street through stone mullioned windows, antique style furniture, spacious bathroom etc. Monks Cell smaller, but also full of atmosphere. Creaky uneven floors, a winding staircase - we loved it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent value at " (97402779)

Unfortunately the Henry VIII room was dusty. The tea/coffee tray was very basic (only 3 biscuits for two people!!). The bathroom had toilet paper under the cistern to catch leaks although paper was dry.

    - nice old building in the middle of Glastonbury - friendly staff

    - carpet in the room dirty - breakfast time unacceptable (MON through FRI 8:00 to 9:00, SAT/SUN 8:30 to 9:30) - no food in the restaurant on SUN evenings - cleanliness of bar and restaurant poor

    Room clean and well presented

A Non-smoking room with the smoking area just beneath the window. It was a hot night, so we had to have our windows open. It was just like sleeping in a smoking bar!

The fact that the hotel was in the heart of Glastonbury and that it was a historic building.

Our only problem was that on the night of our arrival we couldn't have dinner in the hotel (we were very tired from travelling all day and wanted to stay in that night). We were however directed to a nearby pub by helpful hotel staff and that ended up being just fine.

The setting in the town was good

The hotel was over priced for the standard of the room. It was an old fashion themed room but the furniture was beyond a joke. The bed seemed like it was going to collapse and the wardrobe had no bottom.

Expensive, no restaurant available that evening, tatty appearance of all public areas

(99780960)

I liked the overall atmosphere of the place and my room complete with four poster, beams and old furniture was a delight.

    The restaurant was closed.

Fabulous historic (1452) building sympathetically restored Lovely room with separate sofa/sitting area and newly decorated bathroom

"Great place to stay. Staff were friendly if a bit rushed due to staff shortages. Consequently could not find anybody on reception on arrival and restaurant was closed. Ate in bar which was very good. Breakfast served 8.00-9.00. This would be great if it was a leisure break but as I needed to be somehwere at 8.00 am it did not suit me and there was no alternative on offer so we had to miss it. However, we were offered a reduction on the fee which was reasonable. The room was lovely and very clean. Four poster bed very comfortable. Could have done with a bedside lamp. Be prepared for the floor being a bit uneven! It is full of character which made it so appealling. Great High Street position but being a weekend we were warned not to leave our car on the road. A few noisy revellers passed by but were not a problem. Overall we loved it and would book again." (3305225004)

"Apart from the breakfast service mentioned above, it was certainly disappointing to discover that the kitchen was unable to provide dinner in the dining room as it (the kitchen) was being renovated. The staff were unable to suggest any alternative place for a decent meal. I had planned to entertain long-time friends to dinner at the hotel. Instead, we had to travel out of Glastonbury to have a meal somewhere else, which turned out to be pretty ropey." (3305043743)

Attractive historic building with good up-dated bedroom and en-suite.

Breakfast service was lackadaisical. When only one other guest present, I asked for the orange juice jug to be refilled. Eventually it was, but instead of having my glass filled at my table, I had to get up and go to fill up my glass, when iut was obvious I was a bit poor at getting about. The crumbs from a previous breakfaster were not removed when my cooked breakfast was carefully placed on top of the same crumbs ! Coffee was cold.

"It was a complete surprise to us that we found ourselves ideally situated for the business that we had visited to conduct. I think that the hotel really added a level of pleasure to our stay that may have been missed if we had stayed elsewhere. There was really nothing that I woud say we needed to know before our stay." (3305084350)

I liked the setting of the hotel. Its historic fascade was well matched with the interior ambiance. The casual relaxed atmosphere suited us very well indeed. I was impressed with the quality and comfort of the room. The bed was superbly comfortable.I liked the background music (classical) in the bar and restauraunt

I think possibly the parking arrangements need to be improved. Not really a dislike but a suggestion that perhaps a wider selection of classical or tasteful music might help.

Lovely 15th century inn with real atmosphere, just over the road from all shops etc. near to restaurants, good food in bar. Our room was perfect, 4 poster bed beamed ceilings etc.

Not much really, but it would have been nice to have an info folder in the room e.g. telling you about the history of the hotel, local attractions etc. There is plenty of info nearby in tourist info and shops etc. but it's nice to have a folder you can browser through over a cup of tea on your room when you arrive

"We did have problems but in the middle of the night it wasn't practical to try to get the fan turned off. As we had a schedule to keep to, the hot water in the morning was annoying but again nothing could have been done instantly. It was a shame as we had only gone to this particular hotel as we spent our wedding night there 25 years ago!!!!" (3304961900)

Bed was comfortable and all the furniture in the room was lovely, TV was new, lovely evening meal

Room was very hot, could not leave window open because of large air con fan which went on and off all night very loudly. Had asked if fan was on all night and were assured no. The room we wanted had a leak so we were put in the newer part of the hotel at the back, also the shower didnt work and the heating didnt work. So would work on communication to let people know ahead of time things had changed.

"Nothing really to say beyond the notes above. I picked the hotel from the website for it's price ( breakfast included is a bonus these days ), it's unusual appearance, and it was in a town where I had not stayed before, but is one which I had long thought about visiting. I spend so many nights away on business I have started to look for old fashioned residential pubs rather the awful factory hotels which whilst clean and warm are soul-less and have a monotonous feel to them. You know the old joke about them - you have to ring the front desk to find out which town you are in !" (2742926)

Unusual hotel. Friendly bar - good beer. Rxcellent breakfast. Room very good, comfy bed - but it got very hot as I couldn't turn off the bathroom radiator

Nothing terribly wrong, although it could do with a new staircarpet and a perhaps a lick of paint, but it wouldn't stop me staying again, after all 50 quid including breakfast and VAT !.

"I had high expectations when booking the accommodation - it sounded and looked lovely. The potential grandure of the building was immediately apparent when I arrived but the potential good experience of my stay as a whole was somewhat diminished by the lack of staff and facilities. For example food the availability of food was stopped at 7pm with some residents being unable to eat due to the 'chef' apparently being involved with the repair of toilet facilities in one of the rooms! There was clear evidence for the need of updating in terms of decorating/replacement furniture especially in the bar area. I'd love to stay again but only after improvements were made." (2646703)

Fantastic building in the centre of town - easy to access.

Cleanliness - particularly the bedding (pillows & mattress)and the room carpet. The hotel as a whole would benefit with a comprehensive makeover.

"Initially we were booked into a room in a new part of the hotel, although staff kindly allowed us to change. It was the age of the building which attracted us and we had assumed all rooms would be in 15th c. accomodation.Car parking was difficult to find and even staff were unsure whether we were allowed to use the place they directed us to. Directions in advance would have been helpful as we had assumed there was car parking on - site.Staff very helpful. Position of hotel central & ideal." (2560292)

The building was absolutely amazing - authentic 15th century. Loved the use of candle light in the main bar area.Staff friendly and helpful.

Hotel seemed scruffy in places, carpet worn, certain items (not the antiques, obviously !) needed replacement, bathroom very tired. Also certain areas were used as storage which detracted from the whole feel of the place. Don't want to be too negative though - would return.

"We found the hotel easily, with its central location and, by and large ,it lived up to our expectations, being an old, creaky, characterful building, in an old, creaky town! They also offered a vegetarian breakfast option which was as hearty and tasty as it is rare, these days, and, anyway, how often does one get the chance to sleep in a four poster bed, nowadays?" (2572600)

We liked the position, being central in the town centre, we had one of the front rooms overlooking the main street, in the oldest part of the hotel with lovely, old munioned, leaded windows, and a four poster bed.

The hotel, whilst clean and comfortable, seemed to be lacking some general maintenance, our T.V only offered one watchable channel, suggesting a poorly adjusted arial, the ballcock on the toilet systern kept sticking and there was evidence of a leaky roof in the hallway outside our room with buckets on the floor. catching the drips!, all minor stuff, which didnt spoil our enjoyment of our stay.
