The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"When we arrived the proprietor was out, but had left a note with our keys, so this wasn't a problem. Dinner was superb, and although we were the only ones staying in the hotel, it is obviously also the local pub and so there was a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately this was a brief stay, and we arrived in the dark and had to leave in the dark (before breakfast!); as such, we are hoping to visit the hotel again for a longer social visit in the future." (99539828)
Comfortable room, large comfortable bed, added extras such as complimentary sherry, biscuits and water, ironing board and books.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"The overall experience of staying here was of a comfortable relaxing atmosphere.Food was excellent and the dining room provided nice surroundings for a meal. The bar was very quiet the night I was there but it was cosy and would provide a great venue if you were with a party. The information provided about the hotel is pretty acurate, you are not disapointed when you arrive. I would certainly come back for a leisure break." (99494267)
Very plesent comfortable room with a great view over the countryside.

The breakfasts were terrific and the menu looked very good, although on this occassion we had made other plans for the evening. The Location primarily. The friendliness of the staff and management. The food!!
Our room was located above the bar area and a little noisy until closing time, but this did not spoil our overall enjoyment.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"We had decided that as the nearest small town was too far to reach on foot, we would have drinks in the bar and enjoy an evening meal in the hotel. The bar was well stocked and the service and beer were good! The food was pleasant but not very substantial, and on the whole we felt dinner was rather overpriced for the quality and quantity we received." (97873697)
The situation of the hotel was tranquil and secluded. Our room was warm and well-appointed, and the staff were friendly and welcoming without being obtrusive.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"The feel, character and the friendliness of the hotel was lovely. It was let down slightly by the cleanliness of the room The breakfast was fantastic, beautifuly cooked and served in a lovely dining room. Staff very friendly and accommodating." (97257948)
The room we were given was in the Stables just a very short walk across the road from the hotel. The room had character and was very warm, whuch was very welcoming after driving through snowy and cold roads. The breakfast was fantastic, beautifuly cooked and served in a lovely dining room. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
It could have been cleaner, very dusty and just lacked the final effort in cleanliness

The Hotel is in a marvellous location if maybe a little remote for some. Better map and directions on the website would have been helpful although we found it without too much difficulty it was definitely worth the effort." (3304169618)

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel lived up to our pre-visit hopes. Pleasant, able and professional staff but without patronising airs and graces. Room was very welcoming eg decanter of sherry provided was a nice touch and the bed was huge and comfortable. Dinner, taken in the bar (our preference) was superbly prepared and presented well by cheerful staff. Without satnav. in the car the hotel would have been difficult to find since Hawnby is not well signposted from local roads. We will certainly be pleased to make further opportunities to stay again-but for longer next time" (3304431690)
Local pub/hotel environment. Excellent food, reasonably priced.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"Overall good. Food good value for money but would have preferred less quantity for a bit more quality-the plate of fried potatoes was defeating before I started. Breakfast was bacon eggs etc -v nice but would also prefer choice of fruit/continental style meal" (2731185)
Bill not itemised in sufficient detail, and cost of overnight stay was overcharged as hotel had not checked rate agreed with booking agency. However, it was changed quickly.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"If you want a hotel with a reception desk and receptionist all pro' & efficient then it's not for you. If you like a hotel to be a large beautiful house with great views, lovely garden, comfort, friendly people,a bar as in a good pub, a delightful restaurant with excellant food and great service(wine's a bit dear though we didn't mind) then this is the place. We stayed two nights and if we get chance to escape the children we would love to go again. We were going to see Fountains Abbey but sat in the garden instead!" (2086185)
beautiful setting, comfortable room, excellant food and friendly with the hotel and staff having lots of charecter.
We don't believe the hotel needs to improve.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"This idylic hotel is set back from the road, just out of Chop Gate at Hawnby. We were struck by how incredbily gorgeous the hotel and the rooms were. It is an ideal base for the walker on a walking holiday or those wishing to explore the yorkshire moors by car. The food is outstanding and well-priced. The wine was superb - always go with the recommended wine! Attention to detail is something that the owners take pride in. The rooms are ideal in size, comfort and include complimentary sherry! I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone with a sense of adventure, a deep appreciation for the beauty of the moors and to those seeking a respite from a day's exploring on foot or by car. I will carry fond memories of my stay for a very long time" (2734077)
We liked the location, the individuality of the room, the bath was gorgeous, the comfort of the bed, the size of the room, the front of cottage (bedroom) seating, and the food and hospitality
I do not see any immediate need for improvement

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"Not a choice we would necessarily make again having stayed in better accommodation in the area on previous visits. Other hotels offer better value for money. Do not consider it to be of 4 Star status." (108030885)
Sherry, biscuits & chocolates in the room were appreciated. The bar was pleasant, the bed was comfortable & the bathroom well equipped.
Room was in an annexe on the other side of a T junction; could be a problem in bad weather, although an umbrella was provided in the room! We considered the food to be somewhat over-priced and the portions were on the small side; just one new potato each and vegetables also in serious short supply. No phone in the room.

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"A very pleasant hotel with individual character. It is though, set well off the beaten track and is reached via 2 miles of narrow twisting road, quite a long way out of Helmsley. The flooding in this area a few months previously had made the most direct route impassable. Very pleasant owners and staff, and good cooking with obviously fresh ingredients. I hadn't had such tasty carrots or tender pork in years!" (2375410)
Thoughtful touches like a 'welcome' decanter of sherry as well as the usual tea & coffee; a candle in the bathroom; a box of tissues

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"apart from the initial journey to find the hotel ( winding lanes the plenty blind corners)and a detour due to the main bridge being washed away in recent flash floods. the area around hawnby and helmsley was fantastic with rolling hills (you are on the edge of the north yorkshire moors)and small villages in abundance.that being said there was plenty to do with site visits to numberous castles and the like. also the coast is not a million miles away and is very clean. this was my first visit up north from my base in the midlands, but i cna safely say it will not be my last. a great break but well worth a longer stay." (2649348)
accommodation was clean and tidy, friendly atmosphere with all staff more than helpful, was a great place to de-stress, I will be going back in the future.
radio and television reception were poor due mainly to the location of the hotel.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is both excellent and reasonably priced. Although the rooms are quite small, the space has been well used and the rooms contain all the usual hotel facilities. The hotel is well positioned for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors. It is further away from Helmsley than we had expected, so the provision of a map or directions, either on the web site or in the booking confirmation, would have been helpful. At first we were a little concerned about the distance from H to the hotel and, indeed, it was a little inconvenient but the quality of the accommodation made up for it." (2213914)

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"When it says 'Near Helmsley' believe me it's quite a distance. This hotel is a tiny village that you rarely see in the UK these days. I think it doubles as the local pub too. It's a homely hotel, very different from the chains so if you'd like to experience a stay in a quaint place then this is it, complete with beautiful views of the hills and valleys below. Dinner was excellent, with a good choice of wines. Helmsley itself (6 miles) is lovely - if you want more activity or choice of things to do I'd say stay there." (2140923)
Tranquil relaxing location. Very intimate atmosphere and the owners are most welcoming.
The room was a little too chintzy for our liking but it wouldn't put us off staying again. Be warned that the valley is used by military airdraft practise!

The Inn at Hawnby, Nr Helmsley - Reviews & Ratings"Generally the stay was very good, excellent performance by the owners, check in could be better, felt a little lost when entering the hotel, not sure where to go etc but this was soon remedied. Cosy hotel, felt like home, everyone very friendly, the only thing I thought could be improved was there wasnt enough plug points near the mirror on the window and I felt the lead to the kettle should have been longer or placed elsewhere from a safety point of view. I would return to the hotel as I felt it had a lot to offer from the hotel itself and the surrounding areas as there is so much to see and its probably even better in the summer." (1844644)
The chilled out atmosphere of the hotel and the cosiness, as it is a small hotel everyone gets to know you.
There could be more plug points near the mirror for hairdryers etc and the lead on the kettle could do to be a bit longer for safety reasons.
