The staff were very helpful especially as the owners had only taken over the Hotel 5 days earlier and were still finding their feet.Very quick to find another room for us when the heating was not found to be working in the original room.Food that was served was well prepared and good portions. Great Breakfast.Hotel well placed in the High street and good parking.
Fire alarm went off but Disco still kept playing and member of staff dd not know where the evacuation point was or indeed if the hotel was to be evacuated. Menu very basic would have liked to have seen more variety.

Bedroom was well fitted out and comfortable
Evening food was well below standards that you would expect anyware. Breakfast had a poor choice of cereals. Restaurant was dusty on chairs and fittings. On checking out there was know one on reception.

Convenient to venue. Lovely town.
So many - tiny room with two beds, surly, disinterested staff - seemed to be staffed by school leavers, no adults at all - except for the chef who couldn't be bothered to get off his backside to cook two vegetarian breakfasts -although I had checked that these were on offer and available two days before. Rest of breakfast tasted as if it had been cooked hours previously - dried up and horrible. When we got back to the hotel after midnight there was a loud disco with some very drunk people - we hadn't been warned that this would be so. We'd just been to a gig, we have no problem with loud music, but this was horrid. Rooms were underheated - very chilly, we could have done with another duvet each.

Staff extremely friendly, helpful and polite and couldn't do enough for us.
Dinner/Breakfast service extremely slow. The food was not good at all. Four of our party (of 11 people) had the 'special' soup and I think the chef forgot to put any flavouring in as it was absolutely tasteless (and we were still charged for it). Main course was adequate but many meals were cold! The manager offered us some chocolate with our coffees but nothing turned up and we had to ask, only to be told they had none! At breakfast we asked for butter and for a party of 11 they bought 4 small pieces and when we asked for more we got another four!!!!Overall food dreadful but staff great!!

The Hotel denied any knowledge of the booking even though we showed them the Confirmed Booking email from active!! So at 7.30pm we had to find alternative accommodation and ended up in a B&B several miles away - NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!

room was very comfortable and spacious
On room info breakfast was due to be served at 0715 on the Saturday am, we waited in reception area til 0800 no one came breakfast room locked. On later speaking to gent whom I assume was manager he stated I was mistaken and that he himself was about from 0700. When another guest in our party questioned this he then stated that breakfast at weekends was served from 0800. We went to our room and took down the info stating Mon - Sat 0715 and Sundays 0800. He stated this was misprint. He did offer us a free 1 pint and 1 half pint of lager however as there were four adults in party we feel this does not reflect the cost of breakfast which we had to purchase elsewhere at £5.95 per head. Unfortunately we were unable to wait past 0800 as had transport booked.

Room and hotel was clean. Staff were helpful.
Odd layout of the room with the beds at opposing corners with acute angle views of the flat screen TV on the opposite wall. Said TV had an unfathomable on/off switch (staff assisted however). Cleaner on the second day did not replace all of the bathroom items.

The staff at the hotel were extremely hospitable and the rooms were also very well decorated.
Only negative is that when using your website my booking was transferred from a double reservation to a twin reservation. The hotel sorted this immediately for me but next time I would book direct with the hotel to avoid errors.

Smart, very clean. Very nice bathroom and first in uk this year with hot water! A sad reflection of general standards in this country but very nice to see here.

This room was an experience. The shower was hot, powerfull and a decent size. The furniture was in keeping with the surroundings, clean and undamaged. The TV had pleanty of channels and being a flat monitor it blended well into the room. The bed was large and very comfortable and again very clean.In summary, probably the cleanest and well designed room that I have ever stayed in.

The rooms were excellent, clean and well furnished. Staff friendly and eager to help out. Having a young baby can often be difficult when staying at hotels but there was no trouble here." (99083650)
Althought works are still being carried out on the property there was little or no noise to contend with. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous and friendly, and breakfasts were simple and excellent

The food, all locally prepared and cooked was better than I have had at far more expensive hotels. Excellent value for money and whilst it's easy to improve on buildings and rooms it's a lot harder to find polite, friendly and courteous staff. Centrally located in the town (right on the high street) this hotel when renovated will be highly desirable." (99709168)

The hotel is a listed building and is currently undergoing renovations. An apology for the dust was made on arrival but the room and bathroom were frankly grubby. Both the curtains and carpet were stained and the shower curtain was revolting. The sheets were, however, clean. Had I been staying for longer than a single night I would certainly have made a complaint but as I was leaving for Canada the following day I did not want to waste my valuable vacation time filling out forms. My other major concern, as a lone female traveller, was that the sash window was jammed open and there was a fire escape (on which the builder was working during my stay) along side it which lead directly to the High Street below. Apart from being cold, I spent a very uneasy night worried about the potential for intruders and was reluctant to leave my suitcase unattended in the room during the day. While the public bar area was clean enough and the staff generally helpful and friendly, I feel that the guest accomodation should probably not be open until the building work, and a thorough spring clean, have been completed." Nice pub atmosphere (although rather a lot of smoke). Very nice bar man/breakfast servant! Excellent breakfast.
The whole hotel is quite tired. They are rebuilding it for an serious amount of money and all rooms are expected to be renewed within June 2007. This is highly needed.

However cigarette smoke was very strong all through the Hotel , not just the bar. The Staff were good, and made you feel at home . Did not expect the noise from teenagers shouting up untill 3am, as we thought it was situated in a respectable village . With a lot of Refurbishing ( And we mean a lot ) !!!! This Hotel would be ideal !!! For Travellers wanting an overnight stay .We do believe that this Hotel has been recently took over by new management, Therefore they can realy not be blamed, for the smokey athmosphere. Lets hope with the refurbishment . This can be sorted out." (99314438)

However, we were not aware that we would be placed in a room yet to be refurbished, and badly in need of it. The shower was inoperative, the toilet cistern when flushed did not refill, and there was a shortage of toilet paper. We were advised about the shower, and made the hotelier aware of the other issues. The cistern was refilled but we dared not flush it again for fear it would once again fail to fill (there was also a problem with the cold water supply), and the toilet paper was not replenished as requested. The bed (four poster), although spotlessly clean, was extremely uncomfortable, being too soft and dipping towards the middle; so much so that my wife did not get a wink of sleep, and I only managed a few naps. We were also disturbed by guests walking along the corridor outside our room to reach the toilets/bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised to be presented with a good quality, substantial English breakfast, although the tea and coffee were undrinkable." (99519137)

Hot water and good central heating
Mascara on towels, no bulb in side tables, no TV reception, bathroom ceiling came in, had no breakfast second morning because it took 25 mins for beans on toast.
