Very friendly staff. Perfect location as close to town in rural environment. The deal we got was real value for money.

Even our room was clean and equipt with some modern elements there is overall need of refurbishment.

"Not good, check in was fine, the whole place inside the hotel is in need of refurbishment, at the very least a new lick of paint by a good decorator is in order. Rooms (we were in 10) are in need of modernising. Had planned to eat in the restaurant but after the fiasco with ordering an early breakfast for the morning we decided on somewhere else to eat. " (108131714)

Pleasing location just outside centre but close enough to walk in and along the river. Internet acces is ok. The hairdryer worked.

Very poor, rooms are dull, the bed was much too soft. The shower pumps are very loud (will disturb sleep)when the showers in the room and neighbouring showers are used. Breakfast starts too late at weekends 9:00 however the room literature does state they will provide earlier continental to the room if you want it earlier as long as you order by 2030 the night before in the bar, It should also state, 'only if the management is in.'The bar staff refused my request, so i went to supermarket for cereal, bowls ,croissants and milk and told them so. Can you believe it - no discount, no offer to go get some, just the excuse the cooks aren't in til 9:00. In our opinion a very poor, extremely over priced, i think it will be Premier / Holiday Inns in future.

"Considering the price this was very poor value for money. Because of the weather condition and the unbearable hot bedroom and bathroom sleeping was impossible. And experience to forget. " (107755289)

Bed was of good size. The room itself was reasonable`

No air conditioning. Temperature in bedroom was 32 degrees Celsius. Very uncomfortable. One of the side table lamps was not working. cupboard did not close properly. Towel rail in bathroom without any window was blazing hot, making the temperature in the bathroom even less tolerable. Shower only gave cold water and the whole mechanism seemed to be out of order.

Excellent food and excellent service in a most desirable location.

No bad points but would suggest that your address is altered to Harnham, Salisbury as it is possible to start looking for the hotel in Salisbury city centre.

"We really enjoyed it, even though the restaurant staff couldn't seem to get an order entirely right, they were very apologetic and it didn't really matter." (107433560)

Wonderful location, fabulous buildings, super garden. Homely atmosphere, good food.

Narrow staircase but this can't be helped.

Wireless internet worked well. Nice and cozy bar/restaurant.

Some maintenance works were going on in the next room, or somewhere in the hotel. It was noisy until late at night.

"Fine, but rather overpriced. I would stay again if I wasn't bothered about price or could get a special deal. " (107369427)

The staff we encountered were lovely, although somehow our reservation wasn't seen on the hotel list, which led to some confusion.(It was spotted soon after we were allotted a different room.) The room and bathroom were very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and pleasantly kitted out. The breakfast was plentiful and good, and served in the very attractive restaurant. The location is gorgeous.

The room was really rather small for the price. We could have had a bigger one, but we were warned it might have been noisy, being above the bar. I thought the bathroom was adequate, but less than luxurious for the price, and this was very out of season and still more than we had recently paid for a B & B of equal comfort. There was a TV which appeared to promise internet connection, but there was no indication of how this worked - better not to promise it! The TV worked fine.

just one small thing - improve the bedroom lighting levels particually where the good lady has to make up!

"One of the nicest European hotel experiences we've had; the main purpose of our stay was to spend Christmas Eve and Day with my brother who was also visiting from America; it was his recommendation that we stay at The Old Mill and we're quite pleased with his selection--we want to do this again; it's a joy to walk along the Town Path into the city; parking is adequate and it's an easy (20 minute) walk from the train station if you're arriving by train; pack a washcloth if you use one as this hotel doesn't provide them (nor did the other properties we stayed in)." (97341770)

Loved the location; loved the sound of the river rushing under the restaurant; food was excellent (especially the special holiday dinner we had on 23/12/2008); loved the dogs in the pub; loved the towel warmer in the bathroom.

The light over the sink in the bathroom didn't work; the closet was quite small; sometimes the smokers' smoke (outside the pub below) could be smelled in our room above (but it wasn't bad); perhaps a heavier curtain in the bathroom would be a good idea.

Cosy country pub atmosphere; good local custom; good food; real ales. Good beer garden and location although not used during the stay because of poor weather.

Room directly above bar was slightly noisy at times.

"Good stay, but overall not amazing vs.costs. Very convenient for wedding for us though." (107163687)

Lovely waterside location, but there was a lot of work happening on the access road which did nothing for the aesthetics, but couldn't be helped I guess. Food (breakfast) was very good. Staff were reasonably helpful & flexible (sourced local taxi numbers, arranged early breakfast in room etc etc). Convenient for where we needed to get to.

Work on access road not great for overall look, staff would not consider late check out despite being a Sunday (and therefore surely quiet), noise through walls and floors was v.loud (old hotel). Rooms were OK but not great and what we thought was amazing sized double was actually 2 large singles pushed together. Overall then taking the above into account, it was expensive for what you got.

    "A great location" (107132113)

Having a cafettiere in the room was a nive touch. The building itself was old a characterful and food tasty (we had bar food).

Hot water had run out in the evening. We didn't mind, but others might like to know that some rooms are over a bar area that is open until eleven in the evening so the sound of talking travels...

Extraordinarily noisy. Every conversation was heard from downstairs in the bar. There cannot be more than a floor board between us and their heads. This was after haveing our room changed twice due a leak and then a shower not working.

"A complete nightmare. I told the manager about our complaints and he said normally they do not rent this room, but since they had no record of a reservation he let us have it. Also he thought that he had fixed the leak. I want a complete refund and a written apology" (108047674)

Thew outside of the hotel was attractive

No record of reservation on arrival. Only had one bad room left. Room was noisy, dirty, bathroom fittings broken, toilet and shower leaked. Large hole in ceiling from previous water damage. At 6:00 am the room above took their shower and all the water flooded our room, soaking our clothes and my camera. I tried to call someone and the phone did not work. Anyway there is no staff in the hotel until 7:00 am.

Excellent food and very helpful desk staff. Concierge helped us to find accommodation for our next destination. Rooms were clean & comfortable. Town path allowed for a pleasant, scenic walk to and from city centre.

Internet access was difficult due to position of modem (near the ceiling). Keyboards had been tampered with so we could not check email or use internet.

"Staff, owners and locals were extremely friendly and we were made to feel 'at home' immediately. Easy to find following the brown tourist signs, and with lovely views and surroundings. The room was what we expected to find in a beautiful historic building like The Old Mill, comfortable and cosy. The website photographs of the restaurant do not do it justice and the food was excellent. And all this just a short meander through the Water Meadows into Salisbury. We wished we'd booked to stay for longer! We hope to stay again soon." (97204212)

"The situaution of the hotel could not be improved, the views across to the cathedral were stunning. Although we did not have dinner in the restaurant, the breakfast was delicious - hot, and obviously freshly cooked. The staff were efficient and friendly. The one thing which let this hotel down (and is echoed by other reviews) was the shabbiness of our room - the bathroom in particular could do with upgrading." (97726091)

Hotel situation, friendliness and efficiency of staff, excellent food.

Poor quality of room (dusty and burnt lampshades) and bathroom (shower pressure poor, towel rail not working).

it was nice view from our room staff were very friendly bed was extreamly comfortable

the room i paid £110 for one night i expect the ut most cleanlyness for this kind of money ie the room hadnt been hovered ,around the bath was signs of mould and on the window and the glass shower curtain hadnt seen any vleaning fluid for a few weeks looking at the mould and dirt at the bottom of this ,not good for any amount of money let alone £110 per night its unexceptable

"The hotel felt very relaxed with very scenic views. It is an ideal location for a pleasant walk into Salisbury. It is as good as being in town without having to stay and park in the town centre. I imagine other rooms must be better but our room was ridiculously shabby although mostly clean. Our room was directly above the bar and although we would have expected some noise the music until very late seemed a bit unnecessary. If you're not going to bed until after closing time you'll be ok though." (97463757)

"We loved the building and the location as soon as we arrived. We were checked in quickly and brought to our room which was just lovely, comfy bed over-looking the river Avon. The staff were friendly and very accommodating- we were late for breakfast on our 2nd morning and they kindly prepared one anyway, they also sang Happy Birthday to my boyfriend in the bar which was embarrassing but funny. We both really enjoyed ourselves and would give The Mill 100%" (97749182)
