Friendly and helpful staff; comfortable rooms

Food in restaurant ordinary; lack of clarity about arrangements for accessing wifi (although we did not try to follow up with staff, because didn't have time - not a major point - really relates to the information automatically provided

    "Dissapointing!!" (108608897)

Reception area is stunning to look at. Breakfast was superb.

Only 1 bath towel for two people, toiletries very poor quality, paid for superior room with a sea view but felt is was more of a standard room with a balcony. Not worth the money paid. Stayed in much better hotels for much less money.

The hotel was well organised and had style.

In the en suite the tap rotated and had to be refixed. The extract fan was inordinately loud. The lift was in need of repair.

    "Disappointing" (107710469)

Really comfortable bed; lovely views from the room

We booked a superior room and were surprised at how cramped it was. We consider that the hotel had skimped on the little details that make the difference: we would have expected things like a box of tissues, a couple of small bottles of water, maybe a bathrobe. The notice in the bathroom telling guests what not to put down the lavatory was very aggressive. The chairs on the balcony were cheap and a small table would have been a nice addition. The breakfast was nothing special and the scrambled eggs were very overcooked and rubbery.

Excellent breakfast. Pretty location, charming hotel. Very nice staff. Attentive and helpful. Good bathroom, lovely view. Plenty of tea and biscuits.

Remote on t.v. didn't work. People with jackhammers in front of the hotel made it noisy in our room for part of the evening. Bed was sort of lumpy, and that British thing of pushing two twin beds together and calling them a King bed is also still strange to me. We would also have liked it if the radiators could have stayed warm later and turned on earlier. The room got a bit chilly.

Hotel retains plenty of old fashioned charm with modern facilities. Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Great staff throughout, especially in the dining room.

Some parts feel they could so with an update, but many parts have the hotel have been updated so this is probably an ongoing process. Tiny 14 inch TV in a large sea view double.

Very clean and impressive looking hotel.

Rooms were very small even for single rooms and a colleague of mine could not shower as did not fit under shower head. Also as a group of 3 male adults the manager was very rude on arrival which ruined the stay from the off.

"The hotel looked great from the outside, but though the faults were only small it does ruin a person's stay and they were silly things that shouldn't have been wrong in the first place." (97292417)

Breakfast was very good, the hotel in general was clean and the staff were polite.

Rooms with showers were ordered, only 2 of the rooms had showers. When I went back to the desk and told them they said the hotel was full and we couldn't change rooms. Yet after telling them the reason for my having to have a shower they managed to find another room. The beds were hard and uncomfortable you could feel the springs through the mattresses. The tea/coffee cups in the room were dirty I had to wash them in the bathroom before we could use them (that was just one of the rooms the other 2 rooms were ok) the reception on the tv was terrible. The wardrobe in the single room has the bar for hanging clothes on in the wrong position my son's suit could not hang up properly. The shower unit in the single room you could only stand in it trying to lift your arms to wash was difficult as there was not enough room. The shower curtain in one of the double rooms was at least a 18 inches dragging in the bath, which I think is a Health & Safety issue, this was caused by whoever fixed the shower curtain pole it was too low down and too far in, so when you tried to wash the curtain would stick to your body and start to wrap itself round you.

Overall the standard of the hotel was excellent, i was surprised it was only a 3 star as i have stayed in many 5 star and this one was much better. The braekfast was fab they kept topping up with fresh cooked food which was good as normally you are waiting around for more.

"We advised the hotel that we were a mature couple and would prefer a quiet room, so to have been allocated a family room, part of which was allocated to other guests, was a surprise (which we only discovered when we returned to our room after the evening meal). The guests in the adjoining room were extremely noisy and displayed drunken behaviour. We tolerated this for a while before making a complaint to staff. They in turn asked the occupiers to restrain themselves. However, minutes later one of the occupiers repeatedly hurled a tirade of four letter words through the adjoining door. After 10 more upsetting minutes we again complained. Finally about 11 p.m. management asked the occupiers to leave. At no time did we communicate with the occupiers. The manager at breakfast apologised for the inconvenience and explained that the room had been allocated to 2 lads who had brought back 2/3 girls, and it was the girls who caused all the trouble. Had no complaint been made the occupiers no doubt would have remained until breakfast!!! Difficult we know, but could there not be more checks made on extra guests in rooms, especially late at night." (97389597)

The hotel was tastefully decorated and very inviting. The restaurant was equally pleasant and very attractive and well laid out. The service and food were good. The room was clean and the bed linen fresh.

Having an adjoining door in our room which had been locked in order that the room behind could be separately allocated to other guests. Unfortunately the door area was insufficient insulation against noise from the occupiers!!

The hotel itself is a lovely building, sweeping staircases and a gorgeous painted ceiling in reception a nice bar area and the bedroom was very nice.

I thought the bed linen in the room could have been more attractive, with the stark white sheets the beds looked more like hospital beds, apart from that it was avery comfortable and clean room.

I liked the style of the building and the decor

Car park needs some attention - lets the hotel down a bit

"the stay at this hotel was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent as was the service. The only disappointment was that after a night out on the Friday we arrived back to find the Bar closed at 11.20 pm. and a nightcap would have completed the night for us. However, we would recommend this hotel to family and friends." (97617223)

I particularly liked the modern bathroom and the spacious storage space. The original features were very pleasing to the eye e.g, the foyer and chandeliers. The sea view was excellent.

The carpet looked a litte dated and some of the walls seemed a little bare.

"I would like to think that in the future the management would consider upgrading what was previously a great hotel (now only adequate) a serious amount of money needs to be spent on refurbishing the property to bring it up to an acceptable standard, as a regular user of hotels these days I expect more extras - for instance why was I charged for the paper?" (97485961)

    Large room size

Hot corridors, with windows open, room very cold, poorly fitting and ugly double glazing that leaked air - so drafty and noisy.
