"Nice Hotel, good location, staff caring. Dislike, breakfast not useful for early leaver. From 8.00am, too late, should be from 7.15am to serve business users." (97795544)

    Spacious room nice sized en-suite.

No dislikes other than breakfast too late, although did get a small one, to go!. Not the same as a full English.

"We would not stay there again. Poor value for money. Prefer to pay more and get better accomodation. Also, not easy to find the hotel." (97330975)

The staff were friendly. The countryside was attractive.

Not impressed by the decor. Seen better days springs to mind. The room was small with a shower bathroom carved out of one corner. Noise from the next room. Bed uncomfortable.

"The room was small, the window in the room was broken and could not be opened, the shower surrounds were unclean and the shower room was small. It was like a 3 star B&B not a 5 star hotel. The building was an beautiful old house and it could be a much nicer place, spend some money on it." (97026281)

Room 7 had a pleasant view. the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. There was pleanty of parking.

It should never be rated as 5 star. The room was small, the furniture was marked the shower did not work very well and had bad stains round the door and tiles.

    "Good" (97922244)

The stuning views and freindly staff.

old doors, limited tv channels and the room i stayed in (#8) wasn't good and lacks proper window and views.

"On entering the driveway of the hotel, I was pleased to see that there was plenty of parking. All staff were courteous and helpful. The room, which was large, was pleasingly furnished. It was slightly disappointing that there was no bath, only a shower ( no shower caps provided!!). There was an excellent choice at breakfast - the best choice of cereal I've ever had. I liked the idea of making up one's own muesli. Cooked breakfast was first class." (97110625)

    Spacious room with good views.

"Had I known how positive the experience was likely to have been I would have booked further nights. An excellent venue in all respects. Considering a family gathering there in the future providing the same value for money is available." (99202789)

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the spacious room and the stunning view from the window. Excellent breakfast and a willingness of staff to prepare some food in the evening.

"The only thing that we both agreed on was that the food offered in the evening could have ben a little better. We were disappointed and wish that we had gone out to a local pub/restaurant to eat in the evening. However the breakfast more than made up for it. Wonderful!." (99650781)

We requested a room with 4 poster bed and although they said it could not be guaranteed, when we arrived it was great to see that we had one!. The view from the room was nothing short of spectacular, even though the weather was not great!. Nice size room with all that you would expect from any good hotel these days.

"Very friendly staff. Only 5 TV channels. Very limited evening menu. Quite a way out of town without public transport, so be prepared to drive or hire a cab if you want to go out in the evening." (97769388)

Good size rooms, quite well appointed

Rather a lot of dead flies!

"We chose Penrith as this was the half way point on our trip up to the Highlands of Scotland, and what an excellent choice the Roundthorn Country House was. The staff were very friendly and contacted us prior to our stay to advise there would be a Christmas party during our stay, in case the noise would offend us. They also offered a wide variety of local menus to choose from for local dining - we ended up at a local pub recommended by our taxi driver, which was also excellent. All completed by a full English Breakfast!" (3304935139)

The location was very scenic and quiet and the room was very comfortable.

"the hotel sold itself on it's wonderful views and certainly from the front and the drive the view was fantastic but from the back there was no view. the hotel was overpriced and as there was an function on in the evening we found it difficult to park. If you choose to stay at this hotel ensure you ask for a room at the front where the views are truly wonderful. The staff were helpful and pleasent despite the slow service at breakfast" (3305087038)

the breakfast was good but service very slow

we had room 12 which was at the back, very small with a corridor for a bathroom, the bed was hard and the view from the window was of tanks and building work,

"The website was very informative and we knew a lot about the hotel before booking it. We were in transit through the Lake District and the hotel suited us admirably. An excellent facility at the gateway to the Lakes." (3304773491)

Clean, comfortable, en-suite facilities very good, efficient check-in and check-out, friendly staff and good food.

If there was anything I would say that the automatic extractor fan in the bathroom stayed on too long and was too noisy!

"The hotel is in very peaceful surroundings and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Despite no formal arrangement for food to be available on Friday night staff were very obliging and managed to serve us with a meal in the bar area. Our room was large in comparison with those in the well known hotel chains and had it's own unique style. We usually stay at one of the larger chains, but as there were none in this area, we chose the Roundthorn. How pleased we were to have made this choice. We would definitely stay at the Roundthorn again and wish more hotels could provide such a relaxed atmosphere in such beautiful surroundings." (3304373383)

A very large room, very clean with all amenities and a fantastic view. All of the staff at the hotel were friendly and very helpful.

It would help if there was a restaurant at the hotel or if bar meals could beavailable at weekends

"Could not find fault with hotel at all, staff were excellent as was the surroundings. Obviously is a hotel that relies on functions, as per some of the previous comments that might be a problem for some people." (3304338268)

Although the hotel was quiet, all the food was freshly cooked. Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Staff were particularly good.
