Default setting on website gives current day and I did not get prompted to put in my required reservation date which was actually a week later. So I mistakenly booked for the night I made the reservation. Consequently I got a call from the hotel the following morning to be told we were no-shows and therefore being billed for the 169 pound package. We tried to explain it was an error and compromise by paying the room charge only since the consumables (champagne, chocolates and dinner for 2) would be at no cost to the hotel. Or book the room only for the correct date and have the extras added on then. I pointed out that the fact the booking wasn't made until 30 mins after the restaurant had closed should have flagged a problem, but the manager refused to speak to me, conducting his comments through the receptionist. He also told me our grievance is with the booking agent and not the hotel - although your subsequent email advised us this was not the case since the hotel takes the credit card charge.

Although short staffed, the stay was enjoyable and we look forward to our next visit.
Reception was not attended on arrival and we had to find a member of staff to book in.

The reception staff were helpful
Decoration and condition is very shabby. Furniture in the room poor quality, only 2 single power points. Poor attentiion to detail. e.g no salt and pepper on the tables. I had to seek out someone to serve me for dinner

A very large room with a great view of the cathedral, good parking space to the rear and a very large, tidy room.
Only bad points I have were the creaky floorboards which were bearable but could be improved and the Maid walking in the room at 9AM.

Asked for a quiet room but could not get to sleep until after 4am because of noise outside - overlooked car park and a passageway which seemed to be a short cut for noisy aggressive yobs.

The staff were excellent. We changed rooms due to noisy floorboards and a sad, badly in-need of updating room. Moved to newer wing which had a quieter floor but still had a cracked sink. Good location though.
The Beverley Arms is in a very poor order and badly needs some decoration. In our first room the curtains were in tatters (I'm not joking) and the bathroom was dated and the whole look was sad and dingy. Not good value for money considering we could have stayed at a Travelodge for half the price for a better quality room.

Clean well maintained hotel
Room small poor TV selection of channels minimum coffee and tea facilities given Room requested to be quiet and comfortable but town hall cloch in earshot every quarter of hour! Lift not working and on third floor

That one was scruffy and shabby and on the 3rd floor, with a broken lift. If I go again I will ask for a front room in the old building as the bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed the larger bathroom and the sofa etc. This room would be suitable also if you were staying for a three day break. The other one was suitable only for a brief stay.A good hotel which needs looking after a bit more in my view. It is in a prime position and not expensive." (107558194)
Large room in the original part of the hotel which overlooked the church - first floor -double glazed and quiet all night.Large bathroom in good order. Good restaurant- pleasant atmosphere in the bar and lounge. Easy parking (free)
The room could have had a better carpet and nicer net curtains and more of a co-ordinated colour scheme + a general brightening up.

The Beverley Arms, Beverley - Reviews & Ratings"It was easy to park with a secure car park. The receptionist was pleasant and friendly. The room how ever was cold, dreary and in need of a lick of paint. The desk where I wanted to work for the evening was the apposite side of the room to where the plugs were and in an alcove which was not lit. The lighting in the room was inadequate and made the room feel more depressing that it was. My biggest grip would be that you can constantly hear running water down the soil vent pipe in the wall, this was very annoying. The noise grew louder as dawn broke and more people on the third floor began their morning ritual. " (107999867)

Great poached eggs at breakfast
Too many to mention. Hotel is tired and in desparate need of refusbishment. Shockingly bad rooms, no lift, no carpets, ceiling falling down in bathroom, shower did not work properly, uncomfortable bed. Will NEVER stay or recommend any colleagues use this hotel.

Staff generally courteous and polite. However, the person on reception in the evening (9.45pm ish) was not willing to let me settle my bill so as to help me to leave promptly in the morning.
The lift was not working and my room was 3 floors up. Someone helped me with my suitcase/laptop/briefcase when I arrived but a fellow guest had to assist me when I left. the hotel has replced every light buklb with energy-saving lamps. These are not bright enough for someone who needs to do clerical work in the evening and early morning - a desk lamp would greatly improve matters for those on business. On Friday morning I arrived in the dining room at 7am but did not receive coffee until 7.15 and breakfast at 7.30. Not good enough. Friday is bin-emptying morning and the only exit road was blocked for a good 5 minutes. The hotel has another exit but this was also blocked.

Handy, as in geographically for what I was doing.
Staff very tied up in there own personal lives, like airing dirty washing in public! Restaurant shut @ only 9pm. I begged for some sandwiches which must rate as the worlds worst ever sandwiches ever made in the history of bad sandwich making! absolute disgraceful! I would use tastier language but it won't be shown!

The food, both dinners and breakfasts, was very enjoyable, good value and the service friendly and efficient.
The lift tended to stick on 1st floor, and on floors other than ground there was no indicator to show where it was. Small point -- no light on kettle to show if it was on. Plastic washbasin scratched and tatty, though not cracked.

We went ahead because we know Beverley and have seen the hotel before from the outside. Price wise the deal we had was good value, compared to other hotels in East yorkshire this year. The food at dinner and breakfast was very good and well priced and with good service. The bedrooms really need redecorating and the bathrooms need refurbishing in keeping with the period of the hotel. It is a beautiful building. If this was done to the rooms, the hotel could command a higher price, bearing in mind the location of the hotel. The lift should be overhauled as it broke three times in the day we were there. Parking was easy in the hotel's own carpark." (97890111)
The room and bathroom were a good size;both well heated. The twin beds were spotless and very comfortable. There were plenty of chairs, 2 bedside cabinets and a good sized desk (therefore plenty of surfaces for our belongings). The shower was good and the water hot at all times. Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. Very quiet Public areas well decorated and very pleasant. Good bar.
The wash basin was very old and the plastic surface was very cracked and worn through. Lack of table lamps -there was space for them, as the wall lights were very dim. Tired looking wallpaper and paintwork

Downstairs common areas were superb. Bedroom had good quality matching furniture. Hotel was superbly positioned.
The wallpaper and carpets were grubby. The bathroom was old with sink/bath in need of replacement. The lift did not work on arrival.

Friendly staff, good location, decor in bar was quite fresh and modern. Plenty of places to sit and relax downstairs. The bed and its linen were both very clean and new looking.
Shabby, slightly grubby appearance of guest rooms, poor bathroom.

Beds were very comfortable. Everything that was expected was in place
The sink in the bathroom was in urgent need of replacement/repair. No doubt this is being addressed. I would imagine the hotel has an ongoing schedule of repairs.
