Good breakfast and two in-house restaurants.
Cleaning of room was forgotten for one day. Too small single room.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"The literature said it was owned by British people, but all we saw were Asian staff, but they were courteous." (107280502)
Quiet, convenient. The bed was very comfortable, and bedding and towels were clean.
Breakfast was shown as between 7.30am and 9am - we were told on arrival 7.30 to 8.30. Locking the front door was shown as 11pm, but we were told on arrival it would be 10pm. Breakfast was shown as including black pudding - this was missing. The breakfast was rather small. The literature stated that double rooms overlooked the garden - ours overlooked the road. Also, room was described as spacious, in our opinion it wasn't. It also needed updating. The shower ran hot and cold after breakfast.

The staff were excellent, and the chinese restaurant was fantastic, the best that I've had for a long time and the service was superb in both restaurants,The hotel's in a good location and easy to find.
The bedroom radiator, shower room heater and the shower itself were not very good. The english restaurant was a disappointment as the food tasted more chinese than english and the chicken gougons were reconstituted chicken.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"Not bad but not particularly good value. " (107194938)
Clean. Friendly staff. Nice old building. Comfortable bed.
This was supposed to be an "executive" room although it was not clear to me what that meant. Although clean, the bathroom was shabby looking and in need of upgrading.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"Enjoyable" (108065896)
The evening meal in the Chinese restaurant was excellent
1.There was no shower curtain in our room (number 6)which made it very difficult to keep the bathroom dry when showering. 2.Door lock did not work properly and needs modernising.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"OK. Accommodations were suffiencient. Quality of food and beverage was below poor. " (97382670)
Easy to book and hotel was in a nice area. The room was clean and comfortable.
The morning breakfast was horrible. The quality of the food and coffee ruined the hotel experience for us. The server did not ask how we enjoyed it or we would have mentioned this. Our untouched plates should have promted the server to ask if there was a problem. This resulted in our feeling that we did not recieve value for money.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"The room was tastefully decorated and the staff couldn't do too much to help. The whole place was clean and tidy. It was brilliant. I would definitely consider staying there again (especially room 2)." (97396089)
It was clean and very friendly.
Some of the couples in my group felt the beds were a little small as they were used to king sized beds at home.

Nice and quiet. Good breakfasts. Excellant value for money.
Only bad point for my stay, was the cleanlliness of the room. Although mainly good, the housekeeping staff forgot to dust on top of the wardrobe, which resulted in me being covered when I took my case from the top of it.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"A clean and pleasant hotel in a good location, the warmth of the welcome was second to none. I prefer radio to television so was disappointed there was none available (nor digital TV - as far as I could discover - which would have given access). Also, there was no hairdryer. Nice to be offered a selection of dvd's but was a little concerned re copyright implications of this!" (97587385)
Friendliness of the welcome.
Very slow service at breakfast.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"The Shaftesbury Hotel is situated central to Dundee. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the room extremely clean and comfortable. Myself and my friend were attending an event held annually in Dundee. I searched the internet for suitable accommodation in which the information available regarding the hotel was extremely informative and the accompaning pictures made my selection very easy. My experience of my stay verifies my selection. I would definitely return to both Dundee and the Shaftesbury Hotel in the future." (99013127)

Not only did Kevin arrange for a quiet working area in your 3 Olives Restaurant, but he also provided complimentary coffee for our group (half of whom were not residents). All of the staff were pleasant especially to my Deaf companion. Thanks!" (99148158)

Liked the room size. Comfortable beds. Service good. Resteraunt excellent. Friendly staff.
Room was cold. As was shower. Bathroom could have been cleaner.Lack of mirrors in room was a problem. especially a long length mirror. Also mirror would heve been good for applying make up etc at dresser. Missed breakfast because we either did not receive wake up call or did not hear it. Knock on door would have been more effective.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"everything i needed to know about this hotel i read on the website and it wasn't to far from the wedding venue where my friends reception was being held. The fact there was a restaurant within the hotel was another reason to book saved going out and looking for one, also breakfast was excellent. By using the website you get a better insite to what you are looking for, a brochure is good but is not always as informative. I can honestly say it was one of the best sleeps i have had in a hotel in a long time. top marks from us." (99207958)

The food was excellent, the service impeccable, and the ambience pleasing. The reception was friendly and welcoming. The location was ideal for us, being so close to both the university and Ninewells hospital. A good location for the city centre." (97059491)

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"There was an extensive choice of dvd's to watch in the bedrooms - free! - and my son was able to use his wireless computer. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms a good size, but the bath was a little on the small side and a proper shower would have been good. Whilst the evening meal was great, it was rather pricey, however we were made to feel most welcome and the staff couldn't do enough for us. It had a lovely friendly atmosphere." (99854484)
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There didn't appear to be any hot water the night we arrived.

A very well maintained accommodation, clean and warm
The room itself was a little chilly but we were right at the top and the room made up for it as it was extremly large.

Nice position and external building. Reasonable choice of food at 2 restaurants within the hotel.
Cold rooms. Windows leaked water when rained. Windows not sealed well and thus strong cold breeze in room at all times. Very expensive for a B & B.

Also the way to find description was far too complicated, though there were ample tables in the city. (We found incidentally quite easily)." (3304698515)
very friendly atmosphere, dedicated, competent and courteous staff
actually nothing. One has to consider however that old transformed buildings may not provide the most ideal conditions for a hotel. (Like lack of lift, shape of room etc.

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"Hotel very unusual, refreshing to stay in a hotel with some character. Staff were very helpful and service was excellent. Including some basics in the rooms such as hairdryers, irons, bottled water would improve experience - without these the hotel seems expensive for what it is. For the same money you can get far more facilities in other hotels in Dundee. Chinese restaurant was excellent" (99441362)

Shaftesbury Hotel, Dundee - Reviews & Ratings"the hotel was well presented with friendley staff, I thought the food in the restuarants alittle on the pricey side however very good, Would liked to have had a bit more food involved in the scottish breakfast, as 2 eggs, 2 small sausages, 2 rashers of bacon & 2 quaters of tomato dosen't compare to scottish breakfasts iv'e had at other hotels. Other than this minor mis-representation the stay was very pleasent in quiet location with easy access to major roads and city centre and being given excellent directions easy to find." (3304914393)
