"A great place to relax and/or act as a base for exploring the Lake District" (107839989)

As always Armathwaite Hall was excellent. The new health spa and facilities add even more to what was already a superb experience.

    "Very enjoyable and efficient." (97890786)

Very fast service in bar, restaurant and front desk. Excellent food. Large, restful public rooms.

Strange to find a hotel in the Lake District that has a dislike of fresh air. The public rooms have no windows that open and the air change rate is minimal leading to a dusty, musty feel on occasion - well it might have been the old stuffed moose, tiger and deer heads looking down, easily solved by looking at the buzzards (osprey ?) over the lake. Still, a good airing in the morning would help.

Excellent staff, location and public rooms.

Very tired bedroom with extremely small and poorly fitted en-suite. Bad value for money.

"This is the second time I have stayed for a weekend at this hotel. I believed I was booking a similar room as previously however the room was much smaller as was the bathroom. Previouslywe were greeted with a glass of sherry as we signed in which was a pleasing touch, however nothing similar this time. For the cost little touches like this would make a difference. The staff were very helpful and efficient without being intrusive. They and the food were the most impressive part of the stay along with the magnificient surroundings outside and withing the hotel." (2815872)

Comfortable. Light fitting in bathroom had dead insects in it however.

Produce a menu between the standard and the six course meal.

"For what it is the hotel is overpriced and thinks it is much better than it really is. For instance I order the Loch Fyne kipper for breakfast and got what I think was a boil-in-the-bag variety. Not Loch Fyne..... Dinner was good enough and the views are great. Pity staff dont care and are only just short of rude." (2624778)

There was little to like about the accomodation; especially at the price. Small cramped room and akward bathroom.

Reception staff obviously could care less and were reluctant to deal with complaints. Was over-charged for dinner and this required the manager, the restaurant manager and the receptionist to discuss it in public while I waited for a considerable length of time. Also met staff on stairs whominsisted on pushing past me. Hardly what one would expect, even in a cheap hotel, which this is not.

"Hotel was a bit 'formal' for my liking...but I did choose it!" (2427433)

Room was very comfortable & swim/gym facilities was a deciding factor

I thought that it was odd that evening meal choices were either 6 course @ £40 (with jacket & tie!) or room service and nothing in between....would have liked a light eveing meal in the bar area...

"We found Armathwaite Hall to be just as advertised: a magnificent, historic building in a spectacularly lovely and peaceful setting. All members of the staff with whom we had contact were courteous, friendly, and attentive. Our one small complaint (apart from the current weakness of the U.S. dollar!) has to do with the cost of dinner beverages (our dinner each night was included with our room rate). We don't drink wine (for which we might have expected to pay extra), and generally have just water with our meals. (In virtually all restaurants in the U.S., tap water is routinely provided at no charge.) When we asked for water, we were not offered the option of having tap water; instead, we were served bottled water, for which we were charged £1.50 per bottle. When paying £250 per day for accommodation and food, one should not have to pay extra for a glass of water. However, I would not want this review to end on such a sour note. Armathwaite Hall is an exceptionally beautiful and pleasant place, and we very much enjoyed our stay." (2078237)

The location is beautiful, and the hotel is stately; the staff is helpful and pleasant.

    It's quite expensive.

"The information we received whilst booking on-line didnt give us any indication that my husband would have to wear a tie for dinner." (2055619)

Beautiful building and grounds.Fantastic location with gorgeous views.

Would of prefered an iron to a trouser press and a more powerful shower.

Te attention to detail of the staff, the small things matter
