Beautiful location
Could do with something like a Brasserie, i.e. between Restaurant and Keepers Lodge.

the leisure facitities, location and the food in the Keepers lodge were goog
having to wait nealy half an hour for breakfast on the first morning - and when we asked for a coffee the machines had broken and the coffee arrived after a long delay. We had just poored the coffee when we were asdvised that a table was free! This should have been a lot slicker

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"I can genuinely say that this was one of the most enjoyable business stays I have made in the North East. The room, restruant and staff were all excellent. In particular the courteous and helpful restruant staff made my stay a real treat. Food was of a high standard and reasonably priced - just as good as, and much better value than, Jesmond Dene - breakfast kipper especially good! I did not use the spa facilities but they appeared comprehensive and welcoming. The setting of the hotel, ease of access and surroundings are all fantastic. Any quibbles? No - really no. Keep up the good work, don't put your prices up and you will undoubtedly continue with a successful and valued hotel." (3305183269)
Very comfortable and well appointed room, peaceful and quiet, the opening french window to balcony and doors between bedroom and vestibule particularly nice.
Nothing!

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"I would really recommend this hotel, we couldn't fault it. The house itself is beautiful and the amenities very good, including a lovely spa and gym. However, what really makes it is the staff - every single member of staff was friendly, informative and attentive and they went out of their way to fulfil our every request. If you want somewhere where service really matters, and guests are made to feel like individuals that really count then this is the place to go - would definately recommend it and would love to go back again (and we don't even play golf so don't let that put you off)" (3304612909)
the room was a good size with all the required facilities and very comfortable

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"All staff we had contact with were very polite and friendly. Many interesting aspects of the history of the building were available to see/read. Use the hotel instructions for the /last/ part of the journey, not ones from a route planner!" (3304361458)
Decor, facilities, setting - grounds.
Unsure of heating/cooling system - probably should have asked!

Clean, good facilities, excellent leisure facilities, helpful staff, good food quality, nice setting.
Nothing. It would have been nice to have a CD player in the bedroom plus a film option for the tv.

Nice setting, good public areas.
Our room was cold despite turning up the radiator. We waited a long time for breakfast, many people arriving for breakfast after us were served before us. It['s important to get the sequence of arrival and service right.

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"An excellent stay with friendly staff. All facilities are what one would expect of a five star hotel. Food very good. Plenty of quiet areas to sit and relax." (2793666)
Fabulous room, size and decor, hotel in excellent location with attractive grounds and first class facilities. Atmosphere like being in someones country house rather than a hotel.
Not clear that you can drive up to reception as signage is poor.

Well kept and comfortable room with nice view. The staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Matfen Hall was situated in beautiful surroundings with 18 hole golf course. There is an inmpressive spa to relax in following visits. Located in Northumberland which has castles, houses, coatline and walks a plenty. Many local pubs serve real ale.
Our room was quite a walk from the entrance/restaurant around the central great hall. Could do with lift access but probably not viable in an old building.

Generally pleasant staff, and good clean room
No Dining roon manager present on the evening we stayed & had dinner. We had adverse cooments to be relayed to the chef, but no duty manager evident to discuss the matter with.

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"We were joining friends, staying at a nearby hotel(Slaley Hall) for the weekend, fortunately we could not get a room at the same hotel and, with hindsight, were delighted with our choice. We were impressed by the staff throughout the hotel and with the facilities on offer." (2642117)
Friendliness of staff, leisure facilities, building and grounds.
I would have preferred a non smoking bedroom but cannot remember if it was possible to request this online. Carpets in corridors needed something!- (fitting, cleaning, replacing)

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"The room and the view were fantastic - this basic room was enormous. The spa was wonderful - so relaxing - and the Hot Stone Treatment, to die for! The staff were helpful, yet unobtrusive. The food was lovely, although vegetarian choices were limited. Try the molten chocolate pudding!!" (2535694)
Everything!!
Greater range of vegetarian food.

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"high standards of service beautiful location set amidst picturesque golf course vert good facillities including Keepers Cottage for general bar type snacks for those not dining in the restaurant.Perhaps gentle evening entertainment may have made the stay more enjoyable. A good base for visiting Alnwick and other local attractions." (2369839)
The standard rooms were larger than normal and well fitted out with good colour schemes and design as befitting an hotel of this type
Perhaps more storage space,firmer beds

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel has excellent facilities, and it would have been good to have more information about these prior to my stay. Having stayed there 2 years ago, what were already good surroundings have been extended and improved." (2257341)
There were plenty of extras. The main surprise that I had my own ironing board, and iron which were essential. The facilities, and lights were great fun to play with!
Though the staff were extrememly courteous, they could have smiled more and been more proactive and welcoming. The housekeeping and waiting staff all looked liked frightened rabbits.

Matfen Hall, Matfen - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel has a lovely spa and pool area, which unfortunately we didn't have time to use. The room was spacious and the bed was massive and very comfortable. There is an excellent golf course, if that's your thing. We attended a wedding in the grand hall, which is medieval in style. The hotel is very old, steeped in history and a great place to get away to unwind." (1252690)
The room was large, with a separate dressing area.
The building was old, so the windows were draughty

"One of the best hotels I have stayed or been in, I used to work inthe travel business. Fantastic value for money." (108505229)
The rom was one of the largest we have stayed in with every amenity. The hotel was set in fantastic grounds and the dining areas were equally plush.
Only problem was the restaurant was fuly booked so we walked five minutes into the village and found an excellent pub with very good food.
