Location
Very dated hotel,bathroom not very clean,mould and mildew on ceiling and tiles, carpet on landing was worn and had holes in it. Public toilets had soap dispenser was hanging off wall and were not very clean.

Thistle Poole, Poole commentarios"Over the two nights the stay was poor for the price charged,the standard average compared with a Premier Inn,but the food in the restaurant excellent.Staff were pretty good on average but attention to detail lacking.How we could be charged for a Saturday and Sunday paper on a Saturday I have not figured out yet !!As retired hoteliers we were not overly impressed." Due to late arrival of ferry we checked in at 2-30am - the night porter was brilliant - cheerful,efficient and helpful.After the last stay we were not charged this time for car parking or room service,and water was provided in the room.
Still poor bathroom maintenance - the fan was very noisy.The double was not the biggest in the world.

service in the breakfast room was excellent, staff polite and helpful
had family christening to attend in local area at 2.30pm arrived at hotel from airport at 10.00am was informed that could not check in or get access to the room until 2.00pm. asked if we could be allowed in slightly early as had to get ready and get to the church by 2.30pm. FORTUNATELY friends had arrived the previous night and had to use their facilities to shower and change as we did not get access to the room until 2.10pm. this meant that we arrived late for the church service. Also the couple travelling with us in the same position had a small baby with them and they could not get access to their room to feed or change the baby.

Although a non-smoking room, smelt of smoke on entering and bits of tobaco in the toilet. Glass left on table with water wasn't at all clean. Sign on bathroom door suggested dressing gowns should have been provided, but weren't - don't know if this means sign should have been removed.

Breakfast was nice,
Drinks too expensive, Having to pay to park in the hotel, Loin of pork in Jolliffs restaurant was unedible, Room wasn't cleaned until 3.30pm on the Saturday, Not enough information conveyed from reception at check in, Couldn't use upstairs restaurants and bars due to functions on both nights stay.Staff in the restaurant that we did use never showed use to our table,curtain collapsed whilst we were eating staff laughed when told with no attempt to remove the curtain.

The staff were polite and gnerally helpful with our queries/problems. The only really good points were that the beds were comfortable and the location of the hotel is right on the quay. The breakfast was of a good standard, but only what you would expect for the price paid.
This is a very tired hotel, a complete refurb is necessary! The room we had was directly over the bins/smoking area for staff, this posed a slight problem when the staff decided to start a BBQ and we arrived back to our room and it smelt of smoke! To make matters worse the aircon unit in the room was broken and thus our windows were open as it was very hot in the room. A fan was supplied by the staff to ease the heat but was so noisy that it kept us awake!

Thistle Poole, Poole commentarios"Loved the location. The quay is a great place with lots of good restaurants, bars, cafes etc within walking distance. We were able to walk to our show at the Lighthouse. Easy access to the beaches, and the Purbecks beyond. Fantastic venue to eat breakfast, overlooking the water to Brownsea Island. I am Poole born, and all my famiy still live there, so this was the first time I'd used a hotel as a special break for ourselves and our dear friends. I selected the Thistle for its location, and it worked out perfectly." (97932326)
Spacious yet reasonably priced rooms. Plenty of coffee etc in the room, and more on request at reception.
A little too warm and as we were on the ground floor I wasn't really comfortable about opening a window through the night.

Chinese Restaurant right next door, Indian restaurant not far, 3 pubs nearby incl Wetherspoons. Good sea view for breakfast.
The heater was not working and the room was freezing cold. The room was facing the parking at the back. Area was not fantastic as there were flats behind and cars had steering locks over the steering wheel.

The cooked breakfast tasted reheated, the scrambled eggs were watery and the fried egg was not cooked with crinkled edges but cooked in a shaped container and so was greasy." (97772131)

Proximity to the centre of Poole and to the relatives made it very convenient.
The bathroom was rather dirty. Tile grout and bathtub were rather grubby. The bed was shockingly small. The room was very stuffy.

The position of the room provided an excellent view of Poole Harbour.
Being on the ground floor with a small garden used by other guests there should have been net curtains to provede privacy

The hotel had an air of being rather tired and the receptionist apathetic. Shame really, because we had a brilliant weekend apart form this." (99355903)
Closeness to the harbour
The room was on a corridor that was being re-furbished. The curtains were torn and the area around the room was scruffy. We were disappointed that we were not offered a room overlooking the harbour even though it was obviously not particularly busy that weekend. The hotel receptionist was rather frosty when I asked her to check our taxi booking on the Saturday night (we had a theatre booking in Wimbourne). Breakfast the next day was only fair - the cold table looked a bit as though it had been left out for a long time - the cold fish and cheeses were curled up and stale. When we returned back from Wimbourne, we were told that the bar would be open until the last resident left and went to bed, but this was not the case. The barman on duty that night seemed to be struggling with a difficult couple, so we wondered whether he closed the bar because of this. I had booked a Thistle hotel because in the past I have had good experiences but I have to say that on this occasion it was like being in a cheapo hotel - lacking in the personal touch.

It was a struggle to even get coffee, let alone milk. We gave up on toast, it was just too painful. The staff ignored us from the time we sat down. Other tables were asked what they would like to drink and a tray of coffee, milk and toast brought to them. We sat there for ages and were offered nothing, and when we asked, the waitress responded as if we had asked for the earth." (99306966)
