"Poor - would not stay nor recommend hotel to others" (108333463)

Location of hotel was good for my meeting requirements

Quality of room and facilities were poor. I omitted to request my VAT receipt at departure and three days later after various phone calls and e-mails I have still not received a copy!

"it was a very nice stay and made my visit much easier because of the location and the ease of meeting people at marble arch or catching the tube or bus. " (107345476)

the location is great, and the room was well-equipped despite the small size. the coffee and tea in the room is a nice touch, as is the tv placed on the wall to make the most of the room space. the staff was very nice and helpful and the price was very good for the services and location of the hotel.

the breakfast room is far too small to accommodate the guests and the breakfast hours are very limited, which means everyone is trying to cram into the room at once. it reminded me of a school cafeteria at times, and i eventually stopped going to breakfast because it was unpleasant trying to find a place to sit and/or trying to eat and talk to my friend without being jostled by others needing to share the table. families could almost never sit together because of the lack of sufficient tables when the hotel is busy. also, the coffee was awful! please teach the staff how to brew coffee that does not taste like mud water! but the food was very nice and the service was always pleasant. the computer room is nice but too many people don't abide by the 15-minute rule. perhaps install some sort of automatic log-off on the computer to make sure people don't hog the desktop when others are waiting. and the shower faucet in the communal loo that i used was problematic -- it was either scalding or too cold. the cold-water tap did not seem to work quite right.

"31 was probably not one of the better roooms in the hotel and on that basis I will probably stay again in the hope I would get something better. However, there were vacancies and, having booked a month ahead, I might have expected not to have been tucked away on the fifth floor." (107162288)

Very convenient location. Staff very friendly ~ and they spoke English!! :-)

Tiny room on the fifth floor ~ water pressure was low. Happened to look in on one of the communal bathrooms off the second staircase ~ the one where the paint-pots were stored. Very dirty!

Excellent location, very near shopping areas, food stores and restaurants, very accessible to theatres, also accessible to all kinds of transportation, i.e. buses, coaches, taxi and underground. Great breakfast! Excellent staff, helpful and courteous!

Difficulty in getting in and out luggage as a stand with drawer is right near the door. No lift, should have requested for a lower level room.

tea service nice; courteous and kind registration desk person; good to have a telephone in the room & free WiFi access in the room; beautiful windowbox of flowers outside my large operational window; great blackout curtains; quiet street in bustling area; hairdryer useful; clean bathroom; comfortable bed!

hallway a little disordered with maintenance materials during what seemed like a sprucing-up period, no phone number listed on the telephone in the room.

the hotel was comfortable and clean, it seems to be undergoing renovations and is not the most modern of hotels but as far as value for money I was quite pleased. I enjoyed the big bathtub tremendously!

As said they seemed to be undergoing renovations for which there seemed to be work going on but it was not a bother.

"Overall stay at the Edward Lear Hotel was excellent, breakfast: (plenty to eat),the staff friendly & helpful, the hotel was clean & tidy,we only stayed for 3 nights still not enough time to do eveything, will stay longer next time, slept suprisingly well -(our room was at the front of the hotel-top floor)- seen as its a very busy/noisy city." (97369795)

The room(ensuite)was excellent(modern, just decorated I think?),liked having the coffee/hairdryer facilities, we were on the top floor, did not mind that though, felt safer up there.

    All good.

    "Horrible." (108077678)

Rooms were basically clean. This hotel is good for students travelling and looking for cheap accomodations.

The receptionist at the check in desk was grossly incompetent. She saw 10 people check in(4 adults and 6 children) and did not question the reservations. We were allowed to dragged our luggage up to the 5th floor (no lift) in the sweltering heat. The rooms were small, showers small and there was hardly enough room to turn around. It was liked being trapped in a closet. After pleading with the receptionists she gave us a so called family room but informed us that the we would have to go back to the former closets the following day as the rooms had been booked for the next day. Luckily we were able to find alternate hotel in the area. The so called family rooms were cramped and smelled of fresh paint which made it difficult for the children to breathe. The windows were painted shut so we were unable to open them for fresh air. It was an overall horrible experience. It put a damper on our holiday plans. Never again will I endanged my family's life by staying in that hell hole. Staying in that hotel as the worst expereince of my life.

"Nice hotel, friendly staff. Clean and decent size room. Slightly random how the shower was just some tin stook in the corner of the room! Overall would go back if staying in London again." (97499235)

Close to centre, easliy accesible via underground, buses etc.

Shower too hot almost scalded myself. Plugs in the room were unsafe and if had 2 in at once then the TV would not work. Sockets did not always work had to move the plug around to get it to work.

Very good location. Even though its next road to Oxford Street, there was no traffick noice where I slept. The staff was very polite and welcoming. Enjoyed my breakfast!

I had the minimum standard room - single no shower. Its not a room i would recommend for a romantic weekend, but for an overnight sleep - its OK. (Didnt check any of the other rooms, but I think the standard was a little better there).

"Altogether a pleasant overnight stay and good value for money. I found the house fascinating because of its association with Edward Lear, and if we had had more time would have liked to enquire further about the time of his ownership." (97148117)

A really good breakfast-served by pleasant staff. Centrally placed hotel within easy reach of attractions in central London, yet in a side street which was quiet.

Shared bathroom - altho we knew that when we booked, we would not choose that option again.

"first, indicate for North American that room with shower means that the shower is in simply a stall in the room and that it does NOT include a toilet. I would not have booked. Indicate that there is NO lift. My wife had knee surgery and we had to climb 76 stairs every time we went to our room (I counted them). Again, you have a great deal of potential." (97904939)

Our initial room was dirty, in poor condition and we would have immediately left if not for your staff agreeing to move us to a renovated room. So your staff is responsive.

The palce hasn't been painted since Queen Victoria. It looks dirty and unkempt BUT it has so much potential! Great location, lovely staff, excellent price for London. Buy a few new sofas, cover the paint chips. OU rroom did not have a TV or phone but the bathroom was great. Also the hotel turned off the water several times so we had no water between 4-8pm. Some of us do go out to dinner and shows and want to shower before.. My gosh, why didn't the contractor do this between 10am and 4pm? I felt really bad for the staff.

"The outside of the B and B looked pleasant but as soon as you started up the stairs reality struck. Wallpaper torn and coming off wall in hallway. Toilet facilities shabby and run down. No hand basin loo floor above us (room 19). Our headboard was a piece of MDF screwed to the wall. Base of bed ripped. Hand basin cracked, tap missing cap, hole in wall. It is impossible to write just how run down and fifth rate these premises are. I am the 4th generation of a pub, B & B, small hotel family. My family would have died of shame if any of their establishments were so appalling! The receptionist, when we checked out on Tuesday, seemed to resent any criticism of Edward Lear. I would suggest she visits an optician immediately!" (99144242)

Minutes walk to Marble Arch and Oxford Street. Breakfast was good and breakfast staff pleasant. Sheets clean. The name - Edward Lear was a charming Victorian painter and writer

Squalid, has not been decorated or upgraded since the 70's. B Where to start - b asin cracked and tap missing cover. Hole in wall. Base of bed ripped. Shoddy decor through out buiding. Decrepit loo's and bathroom facilities.
