Front Desk staff friendly and efficient
Night Porter was reluctant to let me invite a friend into the hotel lounge for a drink late in the evening. His manner and attitude embarrassed me and my friend. This has never happened before when entertaining friends at the Swan.

Lovely staff, great location, loved the rustic feel of the place.
The rustic feel of the place came with lots of creaks, but that was certainly not a major bad point, added to charm. My girlfriend thought it was a little cold, so some extra bedding would be great.

The room was very very dated and noisy. The room was certainly not of the standard advertised on the internet and we were very disappointed with this. Blankets on the bed are both dated and unhygenic. Certainly not the standard we would expect.

However it was a significant defect and did overshadow things a fair amount, because the edge in between us made it awkward to cuddle in the night!" (108764065)
The property is impressive in itself and has been tastefully decorated in a sophisticated yet cosy style. The breakfast was of really excellent quality and the staff attentive and polite.
The only downside really was the fact despite my booking a double room, it turned out to be a twin with the beds pushed together.

Very comfortable and quiet room. Excellent access to cathedral and city. Very helpful housekeeper.
No lift and stairs are steep. Residents could not purchase after hours drinks for their visitors.

Friendy helpful staff Lovely meal in the restaurant on Friday
Our twin room, while very spacious, faced the street and was therefore noisy so I slept badly. It would benefit from double glazing.

Good position,lovely view of the Cathedral, friendly staff, decent breakfast.
Very uncomfortable armchair in room, also for double room there was only one armchair. Nowhere comfy to sit and relax when you come back after a long day out. Bed mattress quite firm but comfy, but hard pillows, bit uncomfortable. Car park gets full up very quickly, coming back from a day out we had to park a long way from the hotel.

location, willing attitudes of individual staff, huge range of rooms, outdoor cafe terrace overlooking cathedral, wonderful cream tea. Coach house accommodation seemed preferable.
huge range of rooms - the one we had was VERY small - had hoped by booking a 4-poster could have enjoyed somewhere to sit & not feel cramped. Plus had booked early. Constructive criticism: the staff should lay tables for lunch & dinner during breakfast - why not just remove the breakfast things, ensure table cloths are clean and ready for the cutlery & glassware and only after last guest has left for breakfast - surely not after 10.30am - should you start to lay tables for lunch -plenty of time. On first morning one chap was clattering so much with glasses etc (holding several in each hand) that i felt i was in a canteen!!

We booked The Cathedral Suite for 3 nights. Fantastic views of the cathedral from all the rooms in the suite. Very good restaurant.
No tea or coffee making equipment supplied, but these were supplied on request.

Quiet central location. Comfortable good sized room. Gluten free diet well catered for & food rating well deserved. Pleasant helpful staff. Good sized bath towels.
Lack of full length hanging space in wardrobe. No hook in bathroom for clothing. Space for drying towels limited.

Breakfast was excellent including the service
The service in the garden dining area opposite the cathedral was poor - I suggested you use walkie talkies THE WASPS IN THE GARDEN OPPOSITE WERE A JOKE - WHY NOT CALL THE LOCAL AUTHORITY PEST CONTROL ONE DAY AND GET RID OF ANY NESTS The car parking entrance way needs widening by the walls by about a foot in the narrow parts

As I am considering using this hotel for a future business meeting/conference I met the conference/meetings manager at the end of my stay to inspect meeting rooms and was impressed by the ambiance of the rooms and by the professionalism shown by the manager." Location of hotel excellent for shops. Free parking. Quiet room. Gourmet food.
Bedroom hot. No air conditioning. Very small towel rail in bathroom for 2 people. Bath towels and hand towels had to be hung on top of each other and were not changed during 2 nights stay. Towels very wet after first night. Previous quests elastoplast left on floor under sink had not been removed after 2-days stay. No skimmed milk or low-fat butter available on buffet table and at dining tables at breakfast time. Coffee not to my wife's taste! Someone else's bar bill added to my bill but was deleted during checkout (this should not have happened). Special 2-night break (Half board fairly reasonable) but dinner very expensive if not half board. Main courses not worth £16 - £18.

Historic hotel in the town centre with easy access to many other ineresting and historic places. Hotel's restaurant provided us with excellent cuisine and a charming service to go with it.
Poor quality bed mattress made sleeping rather cumbersome. Pity!

lovely re-furbished room. staff excellent. Food very good.
bathroom quaint, could do to be re-furbished but very clean with good toiletries. Corridor outside bedroom a bit gloomy but this is a very old hotel.

We had a wonderful surprise on arriving at the hotel as we had been upgraded - however even if this had not happened we would still use the hotel again. It was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. The position of the hotel in Wells wasw excellent.

Four poster bed was very comfy but far too narrow! We hardly got any sleep as a result.

Great food in the restaurant, excellent service, attentive staff
Poor rooms, poor decor and layout, windows and window sills dirty, a window was banging in the wind very loudly, I struggled to sleep. Drinks and food are quite expensive.

"We have stayed at the Swan many times now and our reason for returning every year is the excellent quality of the hotel. From the moment you check in the staff go out of there way to make you feel welcome. The rooms are warm (it was a winter break),comfortable, clean and a good size. We didn't sample the evening meals but breakfasts are plentiful, well cooked and any request to cater to different diets no problem. In conclusion, another enjoyable stay and we look forward to our next visit. " (108669847)
