Fairly quiet location. Interesting historical character of hotel. Very reasonably priced. Easy parking.
Shower cubicle was a bit cramped. Room was too hot during night. Dividing wall between rooms was thin and I could even hear neighbouring occupant talking.

I called the hotel the folowing day to change my booking and was surprice to find uot that they had no booking from me. Should I not need any change trere would not be a reservation for me on my arrival.

The catering in the restaurant was excellent. I was amazed that the restaurant was so empty!
It would have been nice to have been able to have a cooked breakfast before 8.30 am on a Sunday morning.

Thomas Paine Hotel, Thetford commentaires"the place had a bad smell the moment we walked in,two of our party where bumped into another hotel,the staf were not uniformed or lacked any formal identification so it was impossible to know who worked there,the rooms are in serious need of refurb,there was a wet patch in the middle of the bathroon that didnt dry out all weekend and when we told the staff they just didnt seem interested,the bed was a metal put you up which was uncomfortable,we had breakfast in a different room on the Sunday as the messwas still there in the bar and other room form the previous nights party including food plates left on the stairs,I could go onand on." Good Food. good and polite service from staff. Excellent Breakfast
The room that was allocated to me smelt very strongly of Cigarette smoke. The room was changed to another which was better ,but still smelt of smoke. The shower in the bathroom did not funtion well. The general decor of the hotel was in a ban state. The sliding sash window in the room was un-openable due to broken sash cord.

On arrival staff very welcoming. On the first night Staff obliged with a continental breakfast to take to room overnight as breakfast was going to be too late for us the following morning.
Ordered 1 pint of lager, it tasted bad. We decided to eat out instead. Next morning breakfast warm and drying out due to room being too hot as heating was on. Unable to open windows as they were tightly shut and would not open. We were very late getting back to the hotel on the second night, as were some other guests. Door was finally opened and we were greeted with an unpleasant attitude from staff which unfortuately had been dragged out of bed. We explained at reception that we had already stayed the previous night and was given the key to our room. After we got into bed, there was a knock on the door and it was another guest who was trying to get into our room. Then the phone rang and it was reception asking us if we were in the correct room. I replied that our clothing was still in this room where we had left it. After we settled down again, we heard another guest trying to get into our room because they had been told that they were in this room. We then had to contend with another disgruntled guest shouting for people to be quiet, this guest then had his televisionon very loud in the early hours of the morning preventing me from getting to sleep until 3.30am. As we had to leave early on the last morning, we had paid for a breakfast that we were not even offered, when they knew we were leaving very early that morning.

facilities were clean and staff pleasant if a bit stretched. A bit shabby and in need of decoration but clean. a bit disappointed that staff had their coat on waiting to close the bar even though we were residents.

the window in room did not close, one chair was near breaking, carpet dirty, bath seal not maintained, so water went through ceiling to room below.

i thought the accomodation was good as there was no time limit as a front door key was given
the only thing i didnt like was that the tea and coffee facility wasnt cleaned and topped up on a daily basis

The quality of the meals and service could not have been better. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Although the bed was very comfortable, the room furniture could use some attention.

Rooms only had a very small shower cubicle which we weren't made aware of when booking. Weekend breakfast only available between 8.30 and 9.30 so no good for an early start.
