Distinctive bad smell of damp and mold, which hit you soon as you entered the front door. Room was like something from the 1920's unsuitable for a family and young baby to stay.

The situation of the hotel was excellent. The food was also excellent.
On first impression the hotel looked tired and in need of new carpets leading to the bedrooms. The bedding was dated and needed replacing. This would have made a much better impression when first entering the room. The extractor in the bathroom needed attention. These things could be put right in no time.

Would recommend the food at this hotel. Bar meals were excellent.
Mattress in bedroom badly needed renewing. The overall impression of the room as that it was stuck in a 70's time warp.

Fortunately they were able to find us a suitable room. Everything else was great from the friendliness of the staff (even found me some rennies) to the excellent room and even more excellent bar and restaurant." (97822032)
Everything was great. The food was completely out of this world. We have not had food like that since our top local restaurant closed.

However, perhaps this is indicative of the lack of competition in the area. Spending most of my vacations in Europe, this forms a benchmark upon which to judge the quality of accommodation available at a reasonable price in Scotland. Sadly the Clonyard reflects the somewhat disapppointing overall standard of comfort available, not only in Dumfries and Galloway but throughout Scotland. If the Hotel steps up it's approach to decoration, it could provide 1st class accommodation for guests. The front entrance door is just too Victorian (old fashioned)and presents a gloomy introduction to the hotel. In conclusion, the service and food were good but the hotel needs to bring it's ambience into the 21st century." (99911924)
Good sized, quiet, airy, light room, friendly staff, good breakfast. Nice position, centrally located for Kippford and Rockcliffe. Situated in pleasant rural grounds.
Poor quality shower - either too hot or too cold. No soap in bathroom. Carpet in the bathroom ! The room simply needs a good (not necessarily expensive), makeover and certainly a good clean. The door hadn't seen a cloth for weeks, the skirting was hanging off the wall and the electrics looked dodgy.

Patio entrance very handy, nice garden to sit in directly outside of rooms. Food great, and not too expensive.
Room too hot, we had to sleep with garden door open the first night as well as turning the radiator right down!So if you like a cosy room this is the hotel for you!

There was plenty of atmosphere in the bar area if you enjoy a drink in relaxed company - everyone being welcomed and accepted. The food was excellent; and we enjoyed the evening meals enormously. Provides an opportunity for a relaxing few days with lots of places of interest within easy reach. The hotel is a very important part of that, and fulfils it admirably with a friendly and helpful staff.
No dislikes - but even in August,in the cooler weather, in the evenings and early morning, we found the room chilly, with no heating provision.

Gave us what we always look for - peace and quiet

A pleasant quite location with good food and friendly staff.
The sofa beds the children were in, were not totaly flat. Also for a non smoking room it smelt of smoke.

Room 11 was a large twin - larger than general, in fact. Should be very good in summer: the rooms are in a ground floor extention which opens on to the garden. Noticed garden table and chairs just outside the room. These will catch the summer evening sun. Perfect for a sundowner (from the fridge in Room 10 (supply your own). Very clean throughout." Location excelent,Reception and bar staff very eficient and helpfull.Restaurant service was very good with polite and friendly staff.The room was clean and of a good size with excelent access to both the garden and main building.
The only minor problem with the room was the poorly fitting sliding wardrobe doors (a result of wear and tear).

Spacious (the Helena Suite). Well-equipped. Clean.
Modernisation of areas of the hotel should not be delayed for too long. More bar space is probably needed and what is currently a conservatory could be converted.

Clonyard House Hotel, Dalbeattie recensioni"Rooms really needed to be cleaned up and updated. We had 2 rooms and both bathrooms needed a good scrubbing. Shower curtains had quite a bit of mold and mildew growing on them as did one of the tub enclosures. One of the pillows on my bed looked like someone had a bloody nose and the hotel just covered it with a thin pillow case instead of removing it from use. Overall, the rooms did not instill confidence of cleanliness. If we had known the state of the rooms ahead of time, we would not have stayed." (2917289)
The staff was very nice and friendly. Food was good. Pup and dining area were charming.
Rooms and bathrooms needed updating, bathrooms really needed cleaning.

The suite was comfotable & spacious with easy access.
The bathroom was rundown - no working shaver light, loose toilet seat, detached bath plug. The roomsafe was non operative. All reported but not fixed.

The shower was not very efficient, it had a rather poor jet and could not be hand held.
