October 15, 2011I reason I booked was clear: I heard the proprietors were from uk and after 3 weeks of traveling, I thought it would be a pleasure to not wonder if what I was saying is what was being heard.. The reason I cancelled my other bookings after my first dinner there is much more important: Silvia and David truly care about the enjoyable experience of their guests - from the superb food (not too strong - don't leave without trying Silvia's fabulous cassolet or duck confit) to their selfless generousity of sharing their experience of the area. Lovely Mireproix is only 5 kms away, and the Auberge is on the pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Campostela. I travel alone; I met lovely people in the dining room, with whom I exchanged travel information; I loved my experience there, and will tell my traveling friends. Thank you Silvia and David
There is nothing that I asked for that they did not happily provide, including vigilence for a phone call I was waiting for... These are proprietors we should clone for booking everywhere

September 26, 2011Beautiful family run auberge in the countryside near Mirepoix with gorgeous views towards the Pyrenees of France, Spain and Andorra from the front and a little lake to the back. Very peacefull. The owners are very friendly and helpfull and will do all they can to make your stay enjoyable. We ate in during the 3 nights that we were there and the food was home cooked and very tasty with a good choice on the menu. I especially enjoyed the excellent casssoulet,a speciality of the region. The breakfast was also very good. The room and the beds were very comfortable. We liked everything about it.

September 19, 2011Very nice, quiet location off the d119 from Carcassonne to Mirepoix. It would be the perfect spot for visits in Mirepoix, if you didn't want to stay in the town. Owned by an English couple, the are both very accommodating and make every effort to make your stay enjoyable. My room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Madam does a fine job with dinner, too.

September 8, 2011Chose this hotel as it was close to Mirepoix. This hotel was absolutely perfect with beautiful views and great location. The rooms were very comfortable and very tastefully decorated. We ate in restaurant a couple of times and the food was absolutely lovely. Cannot fault at all.

August 28, 2011Very friendly welcome. Family room was split into 2 rooms separated by an archway, giving a nice sense of privacy. Lovely scenery with mountain and lake views from the auberge. We ate in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the lovely meal. We stayed in 6 hotels during our 3 week trip and this was definitely the best experience and best value of the lot!
Hotel faultless but it was difficult to find. It was further out of Mirepoix than indicated on the map. So check carefully before setting off!

July 8, 2011We were met with only friendliness and kindness. Both David and Sylvia were most accomodating, sharing their knowledge of the local area and excellent advice. The Auberge is perfectly situated to explore the Carcasonne area with all places of interest from the Cathar age within easy reach. Then to arrive back each evening to a delightfully tasteful meal was a joy. The surrounding countryside with spectacular views of the mountains and country walks are worth returning for another stay in the very near future. Unfortunately our stay was cut short by our poorly dog but we will be back.

May 12, 2011Good location to visit surrounding area. Rural location meant no traffic hassles around the auberge. Good food and helpful English speaking owners. Parking available. Good views towards the mountains.
A seating area/lounge would have been nice but appreciate this isn't what an auberge is really about..

We found this hotel after looking up information on Cathar Castles, as I had studied the history of the religious wars. . With the site was an advertisement for the Auberge Du Balestie, immediately gaining our attention for more details. We liked what we saw and made a booking immediately and at no time regretted that decision. It would be difficult to adequately describe the combined affect of such a warm welcome and offers of useful local information etc - and the view from the front door, first thing in the morning is of paradise! - all in addition to home-cooked food and a completely friendly atomosphere. Also, one had no need to leave the site to be able to see flora and fauna. While
While they were perfectly adequate, we found the beds not as comfortable as in some other hotels used on this holiday.
