January 20, 2012Having stayed at many hotels around Darlington over the past couple of years, I have been pleasantly surprised by how lovely the Hallgarth is. I will consider staying here again the next time I need to find somewhere to stay. Breakfast was lovely! The small bar was cozy - such a welcoming feeling having driven for 4 hours, and arriving late!

January 19, 2012It's a nice building in nice surroundings. Overall, I was very impressed. Staff (mainly) were very good and the food and service were excellent.
Clearly there are some building and infrastructure issues at the hotel. We were upgraded due to a water leak but this meant splitting my children into the main hotel and my wife and I staying in a different building - not a problem for us, but not ideal. The IT system failed to charge me for a family dinner and drinks which had I (and others) not been honest, could have cost the hotel a significant amount of money. Male bar staff were a bit (very) dim and I had to wait 15 minutes for drinks in the small hotel bar, even then I had to really spell out what I wanted. Having said that, it won't stop us coming back.

January 18, 2012This 3* hotel is conveniently located for the business traveller, as it is only 0.5 mile from the A1 and close to the large Aycliffe ind estate . It is based around an old manor house which has kept a lot of traditional features. The bedrooms in the old part of the building have sloping floors, low doors etc A more modern annexe has also good but more standardised rooms. There is a seperate pub/bar with real ale and snacks,a leisure centre and golf course. In the restaurant , you can eat in the old main room or in the conservatory which looks out over the golf course
Hot bar food is no longer available in the pub so you have to go to the restaurant and pay a lot more to eat. We were put in the conservatory where it was rather cold ( same problem last winter when I stayed) as only heated by fan heaters . The leisure centre needs updating . The pub was rather dead and at one point we were the only customers. From past visits the few bedrooms above the Stables pub are rather small and should be avoided.

January 15, 2012Excellent hotel with high standards throughout. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good location being approximately 5 miles from centre of Darlington
I have stayed at the Hall Garth on a number of occasions and will continue to stay. I was disappointed however, that there was no hot water on the second night of my stay and none the following morning. While staff were very apologetic, they said the problem had been caused by the boiler blowing out and that this had been a problem since Christmas. Given that I stayed there in mid January I would have expected this to have been remidied earlier.

December 12, 2011Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Beautiful grounds, building full of character. Nice comfortable room, needs some up-dating. Nice lounges and quirky bar.
The hotel was chosen because it had a swimming pool and spa-the pool was disappointingly small- any more than three people swimming and it is overcowded. Our room (no.2)was pleasant but could be so much nicer by new carpet/plain walls/bathroom more luxurious. Food was not of a consistant high quality, some dishes were really good but others mediocre.

December 6, 2011A very good hotel, ideally located for the motorway. Good leisure facilities. The golf course is not very good, but for a knock around its ok.
The bed in the room was one of the hardest beds I have ever slept on! I took hours to get to sleep and then slept terribly. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I hope not all the beds are like this one.

November 1, 2011Considering the price we paid for two nights we found that having to pay £12.50 for each breakfast was way over the top that added £50 quid to th bill. Breakfast was quite good however, but no better then many I.ve had for less than £6-7 . The waiting staff was very poor and very slow , especailly at dinner . Food was average but ok Found decor to be below average with a good paint job neeed , public areas cold, even though outside it was mild . Room had a very odd smell has was quite noisy at times The tall lady receptionist was friednly and very nice and always working with a smile Overall I would rate the hotel 5/10
