July 5, 2011Very historic inn - marvelous ambience if you are into that - good accommodations considering the age of the inn. When you stay in that vintage accommodation you have to expect to make some allowances.
Bathroom could use a few more shelves and or hooks. No place in room for opening luggage - had to use the bed every time I needed something out of the suitcase. Good cupboard/closet space though.

June 24, 2011Located right on the main street of town. The only parking is a paid lot just around the corner - pretty conventient to this hotel. There is a bar and good restaurant right downstairs. It's about a 25 minute walk to the base of the Glastonbury Tor hill, then it's a million steps up.. Overall, we thought it was a great place to stay. Just pack light, because there are circular castle-like stairs that you need to carry your luggage up to get to the rooms!

July 27, 2011Very convenient location. Very good food. Some nice staff. Comfortable bedroom with good facilities. But one or two issues (see below) disappointed me and seemed to reduce the quality of hotel services--I wasn't even offered a phone number for a taxi service (see (I) below). So, I'd be rather hesitant about wholeheartedly recommending the hotel. And (ii) below: even if the hotel does handle no money, it's unusual not to be given a record of the total taken off my credit card.
(i) It is very rare to find reception open: one example, on Sunday evening I hoped for help with booking a taxi for early on Monday morning. A member of bar staff asked management about this and was told that the reception was closed and would remain so. It was suggested that I walk to a taxi rank nearby and ask one of the drivers to book a taxi for me. This I did and made the booking with a driver when a taxi eventually turned up. (Ii) I have had no record showing the bar items I had put on my account. Have no idea how much my total bill was. Was just told the hotel handles no money. Would like to know how much I've paid..

July 25, 2011Fascinating interior - moody and mysterious. Felt like going back to medieval times, but with modern luxuries, like the walk in shower and flat screen tv. Stayed in 1st floor Monks twin room. Wonderful breakfast - very tasty. Central location made it very accessible.
Only negatives - must pay for carparking Sunday from 9 am. Check in at 2pm, check out at 10.30am.

July 14, 2011I always stay at the George when I visit Glastonbury for the Pilgrimage weekend - every year the Inn gets better - food is excellent, the breakfast is great and the atmosphere is scintillating.

October 4, 2011It is the ideal place for a romantic weekend. I loved the room with a four poster bed. It is a very mystical and magical place full of history and I would love to stay again.

September 19, 2011Welcoming and helpful staff, clean and comfortable AND spacious rooms, easy access to the long term car park just at the rear, and a great breakfast.
The front door onto the high street isn't opened until noon - making an early morning walk to get newspapers awkward, as is, we had to go out the back door and walk around to the front???

September 15, 2011The building
Firstly they couldn't find our booking, they spent several minutes trying to find out reservation which made us feel very awkward. The room was large, but dirty as was the bathroom. The bed was so thin I had to leave my partner and sleep on the single bed in the room. At 3:30pm we were told they had run out of food, so we couldn't have an evening meal. The wifi connected but wouldnt work. The hot water worked in the evening, but didn't work the next day, so we had cold showers.

Hotel staff were horrible. Very rare that I've ever found hotel staff truly unpleasant and nasty... They took the medieval theme too far and extended it to service.

August 31, 2011Old inn that oozes character and is located on Glastonbury High Street - an excellent location for exploring the town within 20 minutes walking distance of the Tor. Very clean and comfortably furnished - with good quality breakfast included.

Staff downright rude. Best to scuttle up to your room and go out for breakfast and then you dont need to have any interaction with them

January 19, 2012Location
I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in many parts of the world, and this has been the worst experience I have ever had. I found insects in my bed, and a Rentokil monitoring device under the bed. I didn't sleep all night, and no one was on reception, and no contact number present for contacting anyone. I had also requested a bathroom and booked the room with the four poster bed because I had wanted a good room with a higher chance of having a bath. I also spoke to the staff to specifically ask about a bath. They assured me it had one. It didn't. In the morning the breakfast was awful - bacon like leather, sausages tasted bland and hard. Breakfast was accompanied by the drone of a vacuum cleaner near the bar area. Pity they didn't vacuum my bedroom! When I complained about my room and asked for my money back I was told the manager was not present, and when I tried to write in the guest book about my experience, it was literally snatched away from me! Absolutely avoid this hotel!

January 18, 2012The waitress and the bed.
A £10 deposit for use of tv console, obviously customers not to be trusted. Tv did not work for 24 hrs. Breakfast pre cooked in partially covered stainless steel troughs - cold, greasy with rubbery eggs. Cocoa Pops the only cereal on offer! Cold shower and no on site management to complain to or better still to rectify the situation.Whilst waiting on Sunday morning for fresh eggs, a hot shower, breakfast to be reheated and a manager, we recieved a £60 parking ticket. Why didn't someone tell us there was free parking nearby?

TV's remotes needed deposit and could not get to work. Tepid water, could not get it to run hot. Damp smell and lack of cosy fetures in Bar e.g lovely old fireplace setting with a naff eletric heater in situ with fake flowere. Staff spread to thin and running around.

January 10, 2012The ambience and the way that the hotel has been woven into this fantastic building retaining lots of the original features and capturing the essence of the building and the town. Location is very central to all the must see places in and around Glastonbury. Staff were fantastic and very welcoming as were their clientele. Food was great too - probably one of the best breakfasts we've had for years.
The noise from the street from midnight to 3am and the lumpy mattress - which were both resolved as soon as we mentioned it - a choice of two alternative rooms. Despite 2 four poster rooms showing as available on this website we had an email shortly after the booking had been made from the hotel to say that there was no availability and arranged to stay in a double room instead.

It was wonderful to stay in such an historic place. Very comfortable and clean room. Very pleasant staff, not only efficient, but very friendly, and keen to interact with guests and to answer questions. Pleasant atmosphere, lovely courtyard.
It would have been nice to have been shown to our room, rather than being given directions, and made our own way up. Breakfast was a bit disappointing; fried food was a bit stale and greasy. Suggest you buy a good quality sausage, which makes a big difference. When booking, it is stated that there is no parking available. Would be better to explain that there is Pay and Display parking at the rear, free from 6pm to 9am.
