November 1, 2011The owner was very polite and happy to help. We were upgraded free of charge to a lovely room and it was a most plesant stay. Reasonable price and lovely sourounding area but still close enough to the city center would stay again.

October 29, 2011Great location for visiting family, friendly staff, value for money, historic building with an interesting history, nice appearance, very tastefully decorated.
The plasterboard walls separating the rooms - both nights I had limited sleep as I could hear everything in the room next door, including the snoring! This would definitely not be suitable for a romantic weekend! Also the fact that there was no internet access unless you brought your own laptop - I had only hand luggage, as was flying, so had no laptop.

October 11, 2011The service and the location is amazing....will definitely going back for a few more nights.
Generally, there is no cons about this hotel. We didn't managed to get a taste of the breakfast. Will need to try it next time...

October 6, 2011The fact that I cannot complain in this review about the inadequate sound- proofing of my room (Annex Room 6). The tv next door could be clearly heard, disturbing my sleep late at night and early next morning.

September 22, 2011The room was very pleasant with a nice big bathroom.
The breakfasts were not nice. It was cereal or cereal bars or biscuits, with a fruit bowl which just had bananas, apples and oranges. It would have been better to have melon, prunes, strawberries or apricots which are more appropriate for breakfast. i asked if I could buy some tomatoes to have on toast for my third morning, and he refused, saying they don't do anything cooked. I believe if a guest asks for something reasonable you should go out of your way to provide; won't go there again.

September 13, 2011Nice setting, very big room
Very minor point, our suite had an huge bath and the water pressure was low so it took 20 mins to fill

July 4, 2011I had a beautiful suite -- with more closet space than even I could fill. I was sorely tempted to find a reason to use the elegant dressing room, but my stay was too short. The bathtub was worth the trip. The gardens are lovely, if slightly neglected. Breakfast was basic continental, but the dining room is clean and comfortable. Lovely old house, obviously well loved.

June 30, 2011Location is safe and secure. Owners very pleasant and welcoming. Generally very clean and suitably warm. Staff friendly and accommodating. Lovely main building with history attached.
Two 'shared bathrooms' and neither shower worked properly in either. Water in the shower was cold and completely stopped at one stage for no reason. Breakfast is continental only but I'm sure it is advertised as this, I just didn't pick up on it and assumed a cooked breakfast option would be on offer. Beds are not very substantial so are not overly comfortable. I would have been happier to pay more money and have a room that didn't compromise on the basics. We booked based on loction not price. These are simple improvements that could easily be addressed by the owners to make this accommodation an excellent choice for people wanting to stay in this area.

June 27, 2011Staff were excellent and very accomodating. My bed was very comfortable
2 small things:1) the pressures of the showers in the annex made it difficult to have a consist shower temp if others were using other showers; 2) Although breakfast was good, I would have liked the option of a cooked breakfast,

June 24, 2011Nice garden setting. Good easy parking well off the road. Free wi-fi works well. Good choices for the continental style breakfast. Hosts were courteous and unobtrusive. Seems to be a favourite with Hadrian's Wall walkers.
The walls in the bedrooms are very thin, so you hear everything going on next door.

June 13, 2011This hotel has lovely grounds to wander in.
The lack of heat in the rooms and bathrooms was an issue, sorted out on day 3, by which time I had decided to leave. Bearing in mind that it is June and a really chilly one too, I would have expected some heating in the early morning and evening. They eventually gave me an electric heater and the radiator switched on. I was told other residents were too hot and opening thier windows.I Would only re-visit this hotel (because of the room prices) in the middle of a heatwave. Breakfast was adequate but bland.

May 12, 2011The bath in the room was really big, views were beautiful and the breakfast was very filling and good value, despite it being continental.
The bed was hard, uncomfortable and not long enough.
