September 5, 2011Bed was comfy and clean
1. The staff appeared poorly trained, the breakfast staff were surly and discourteous 2. I was disgusted to see that the bedroom carpet hadn't been vacuumed and was littered with toenail clippings alongside the bed, the bathroom and the coffee cups were filthy 3. The bin in the bathroom was still full of someone elses rubbish and it's lid was broken, there were someone elses hairs in the sink 4. The dust was a quarter of an inch thick on the tops of the curtains and on the pelmet - this blew off when the fan was on 5. unable to check in before 2 pm 6. The full english breakfast was not provided even though it was paid for 7. The hook on the back of the bathroom door had been ripped off 8. At £160 for 1 night, this is a disgrace - I couldn't wait to check out and feel utterly ripped off.

August 17, 2011Situated near the centre of Salisbury. Car Park ok, but messy.
Mould on the ceiling and tiles of the bathroom. A lot of spiders. Toilet not clean. No sanitary bags. A lot of hair on the floor from previous guest(s). We had the impression that the bathroom had not been cleaned for days. No refrigerator in the room. Curtains full of dead insects. We booked an Executive room with view on the garden and the river, but we were dumped at the end of a smelly corridor with view on a tree and a glimp of the river. Restaurant was not clean, stains on the carpet, windows full of spiderwebs and dirt. Staff was not friendly. We could not use the terrace for two days due to celebrations. This was the first time we stayed there but it will also be the last and we will certainly not recommend this hotel to friends and family.

August 16, 2011Great location and Hotel
There did not appear to be enough Staff to cope even on a weekend when there was a function. The checkout procedure was far too long.

August 13, 2011we booked one night, it was near the city center and walking distance to many sights. Great antique store in the city
When we arrived the hotel, the room wasnt ready. We found that the window was broken and there were coming bugs in the ceiling and walls, we got a new room. In the new room the carpet was wet. We didnt think much of it, before my friend went to the bathrom and the toilet was broken. It wasnt clean there! We got another rom and that room was ok. the staff was nice and we got an reduction on the price. But our expectations of the hotel was damaged.

August 10, 2011The location is fantastic - very picturesque, right on the river and then a short walk into town via the cathedral. It was also nice and quiet. We booked an Executive room and it was nice - a very good size and nicely decorated, opening straight out onto the riverside terrace.
The room had not been cleaned properly. There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom from the previous occupants and the carpet had bits all over it as it had not been hoovered. Breakfast was awful - sour milk, sweaty, cling-film wrapped cheese, unappetising fruit and lots of flies and wasps visiting the buffet table. Wouldn't recommend.

August 2, 2011Character of room in the old part of the hotel. Riverside location. Easy walk into Cathedral Close and city.
No hot water in our bathroom until the late evening. A breakfast tray still outside a room in the narrow corridor until 6pm, leaving a nasty smell. The restaurant menu was uninspiring so we ate in town.

January 30, 2012The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was clean, comfortable, well furnished and well up to executive room standard with two comfortable chairs, table and lovely view out over river towards Cathedral which is less than 10 minutes walk across the meadows as are the City shops. It would be a lovely spot in the summer with wonderful dining terrace outside dining room.
Did not have evening meal, but breakfast continental buffet was poor by modern hotel standards at this price level. Particularly annoyed that hotel charges £4.95 surcharge if you pay by credit card - never experienced this before at a hotel, and certainly not one at this level.

January 24, 2012Very pleasant people and a chef who knows what he is doing. Interesting ancient building which has been well adapted. Lovely riverside location.
Hard to fault except that the hotel is on an old bend in the road and completely hidden from view. They ought to upgrade their map and travel instructions to avoid lots of extra miles in retracing one's steps!

December 31, 2011This hotel is a five minute stroll from Salisbury Cathedral and a ten minute stroll from Salisbury City Centre. It is friendly and clean, and in surroundings that are quiet and feel safe. The room we stayed in was in the 'new block' overlooking the river, which is a delightful setting.

December 31, 2011Have known this hotel for 10 years and the rooms in the old part of the hotel are wonderful, full of history and very clean. Location is great for Salisbury with a wonderful walk through the Cathedral close to get to the town.
This is now rated as a 4 star hotel but sorry to say that the service at breakfast does not deliver at that level. The hotel was not full but staffing levels were at their lowest and attention to their clients clearly requires improvement. We were given the smallest pot of tea for two, no second pot for hot water, one rack of cold toast, no offer of more and we had to ask for our breakfast order to be taken. The chef can not cook poached eggs!!! Suggest he practices but not on his customers please. Overall the service received at breakfast is fine if you just want to help youself to cold cereal etc, anything else lets this hotel down.

December 29, 2011Quiet ( except for the party night) , comfortable; has pub, restaurant, tea kettle in the room
That the receptionist had forgotten that one evening there would be a party and had mot put us already the first night in a quiet room - but she apologized and regretted sincerely. There was no problem about switching to a quiet room at the night of the party.

December 20, 2011The staff were really friendly and helpful, although I got the impression there probably weren't enough of them. The beds were really comfortable. The location is excellent - quiet but a short stroll across the water meadows and cathedral close into Salisbury. There is parking which in Salisbury is also a must. The bedroom was ok, access direct to the river was nice. Public areas are characterful and cosy. Lots of room in the bar and restaurant areas and direct access to the river. Overall we also found it quiet - despite there being a couple of functions there in the run-up to Christmas.
I contacted the hotel beforehand as I was concerned about some of the comments about damp and cleanliness (we have a child with serious respiractory condition) and the hotel were really helpful and assured me as to the room being clean - which it was - apparently the comments relate to one room which is near the river - and I think that sums the hotel up - it is a bit worn at the edges and could do with some money spent on it - likewise we felt that the food was a bit bland and unimaginative - so a bit toppy pricewise (we paid something like £120 for an executive room for one night) - but overall the pleasantness of the staff and the lovely location made it a good trip and of all the Salisbury hotels it's probably the one I would pick again.

The staff was very nice and the contenental breakfast good. The rooms were very small in this old hotel. And you need to pay extra for rooms that there is actually room to walk around the bed. But the rooms in the new section were nice but still.. With the exception of a handful... Were quite small.
The tv and remote did not work with only 3 channels. Also, the worst. The coffee and drink cups had not been cleaned. There was still coffee on the spoon and cup and lip stick on the bath drinking cup. This always leaves you with an ill feeling.
