January 23, 2012The location is great, easy to get to from the East. The room was very nice inside, a big comfy bed and nice size room.
The service in the Reastaurant was very slow and despite "struggling" to fit us in, it was almost empty. The room did not have Sky Sports as advertised (not a problem as we didn't need it but should be noted). Our room was directly above the Restaurant and there was an almost-constant banging sound coming from below that made it difficult to sleep at times. Having a superior room situated next to the communal toilets seemed a little odd too.

December 28, 2011Very welcoming staff. Large room with magnificent view. Well appointed bathroom. Very comfortable large bed. Dinner menu imaginative, well prepared, well served. Wine list not too overpriced! Good but not overfacing breakfast. Staff able to provide details of local amenities and walks from the hotel. A stone's throw from Grindleford station - trains to Sheffield, Manchester and the Hope Valley.

November 21, 2011Hotel staff were very friendly and polite. Rooms were fine.
It would have been good to have had a light on the desk as using a pc was not good on the eyes with limited light.

November 17, 2011We stayed at The Maynard due to the restaurant's reputation. On arrival we found the restaurant was closed on Mondays in the low season, but they had an extended bar menu available. We chose to eat at a local restaurant and the hotel was kind enough to organise our taxi. The hotel room was comfortable, and well priced. We would certainly visit again.
I recommend getting a room on top floors as guests walking by 2nd level on the creaky stairwell can be annoying.

October 31, 2011Made to feel welcome - staff particularly friendly.
A few jiggles with the room (No.10) - phone socket broken, towel rail not working, no central heating at times, tv required two remote controls, etc. Towel was mended during our stay and a fan heater was in the wardrobe.

October 30, 2011The hotel has been renovated to a high standard, with some really interesting design ideas visable around the hotel. The staff are supurb and very accomodating. We ate in the restaurant and it was really nice. We both enjoyed our meals. Our room was gorgeous with some really good heavy lining curtains to block out the light.
The only thing that we can put here is the road noise. The road running past does handle a fair bit of traffic in the morning.

October 19, 2011The hotel was attractive in a 'country house, rambling' kind of way, situated in an exellent position for a restful, comforting retreat following walking in the Peak District. All staff were very friendly and professional, the hotel did surpass my expectations as I booked online and made my choice from the website info so I was very pleased and would recommend this hotel. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious from a really good menu. My husband and I would look forward to staying here again if we came back to the Peaks for a break - infact we would've stayed longer but it was fully booked!

Could be better lighting at the desk/dresser for writing or getting ready.

September 6, 2011Staff were very welcoming and accomodating and did all they could to help. Food was excellent quality and service was good. Our room was nice and spacious.
Would have preferred a bity more furniture in the room such as two easy chairs and a small table. The road noise was noticaeable in several rooms which may be a problem for light sleepers. Also there were some fruit flies in the bar which was a bit offputting.

July 27, 2011I liked the very large and comfortable bed. I also liked the large tv with good picture and channels. I liked the cosy bar, the food and the fact that the breakfast was freshly cooked.
The cooked breakfast was far too slow in arriving and being served, due to there only being one waiter available.

Excellent breakfasts and friendly service Not part of a chain therefore had some individuality Piping hot water for baths and showers
Found the low level of lighting in our room difficult to read by and could not turn off the main lights from the bed.
