June 20, 2011Very friendly and accommodating owners and staff. Newly decorated room, which was great. Nice flat-screen TV, satellite channels, spacious en-suite. The hotel is in a quiet spot, and is itself nice and quiet. This was much appreciated as I was due to check-out at 5am in the morning to compete in a local triathlon, so a good night's sleep was high on my agenda. Owners very graciously opened the kitchens at the crack of dawn for the handful of other competitors to get some breakfast and offered to store our (rather expensive) bikes in a secure room overnight. In summary, this was a fantastic place to stay, in a lovely village on the shores of Rutland Water with a very helpful, friendly and accommodating staff. Highly recommended.
The restaurant closes fairly early (I couldn't get food at 9pm), which was fine in my case as I simply walked 2 minutes into the village to eat. Again, staff were very helpful and suggested several places that open late. All in all a great place to stay.

June 20, 2011Convenient location and friendly owners. Room servicing was excellent and there was always plenty of hot water. Good breakfast, well served.
Choice of evening meal somewhat restricted and reasonably expensive although the quality was satisfactory.

June 7, 2011Ideal location in lovely Oakham, on the main road so close to shops and restaurants but very peaceful with it's own car park. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Ideal base for exploring Oakham itself along with Rutland Water and the surrounding area.

January 11, 2012We stayed two nights bed and breakfast. All very good. The room was large and comfortable, newly refurbished. Very good breakfast. Only adverse comment was it was necessary to book for evening meal the previous day, including the day before arriving for dinner on the first night. Having not seen the restaurant or menu, we felt unable to do this. The hotel did offer bar meals from 3.00pm till late, but they did not open the bar until 6.00pm, so instead we went out to restaurants to eat, which was a loss to the owners. We would however stay again and recommend the hotel for b & b
See above ref restaurant for evening meals

December 5, 2011This is a good hotel, well placed at the edge of the town. Our room was clean, spacious and well-decorated and it came with an excellent breakfast! The staff are helpful, cheerful and polite and there is an atmosphere of quiet and calm. All of this is perfect bearing in mind there is a bustling town less than five minutes walk away.

November 29, 2011Very clean, good staff; excellent poached eggs at breakfast,;'no fuss attitude'; easy access at all hours; good parking: free wi fi; good tv; nice toiletries:
No complaints just some observations: Bathrobe or another towel would be nice...and some toothpaste/brush (rather than shoe cleaner if necessary to choose)! Please some better coffee (I.E. Gold Blend) and better lighting especially in desk area and by bathroom mirror....extra bedding would be helpful as radiator didn't want to work and room rather cold: Generally excellent. Many thanks.

November 28, 2011Room was very quiet and comfortable. The shower was very good hot and powerful. We thought the breakfast was very good having high quality ingredients - nice granary bread, lean bacon, good quality sausage and well cooked. Hot milk was provided when asked for the coffee, and more coffee provided when requested. It was quite a quirky building with some low ceilings and long corridors - we liked that. We were very satisfied with the service provided.
