Reopened in July 2009 after a dramatic facelift, this stylish inn boasts contemporary, boutique-style rooms, free Wi-Fi, a lavish bar and a 2 AA Rosette award-winning restaurant.

Behind its beautiful original 17th-century town-house façade, the Crown is a thoroughly 21st-century inn. Stylish and modern, the en suite rooms have been individually decorated by award-winning interior designers Bentheim of Chelsea. Each room has a plasma flat-screen TV with Sky satellite channels and a DVD player.

The beds boast plump goose-down pillows, luxurious mattresses, crisp cotton bed linen and Italian lighting. The bathrooms have under-floor heating and French organic toiletries.

The restaurant offers superb, award-winning cuisine, made with the finest, freshest seasonal produce available locally.

The Crown is situated in the heart of Woodbridge, in East Suffolk. A fine old market town, Woodbridge is an atmospheric blend of the fashionable and the age-old, with modern cafes, smart boutiques and trendy wine bars sitting next to traditional old shops.

  Lovely place to stay overnight. Very attractive hotel and lovely food. Nice little town. Overall very good.

  Cannot wait until we can come back back again to visit. We loved the casual but luxurious surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

  Very warm welcome from staff, excellent service, beautiful room and facilities - great attention to detail such as a flask of iced milk for tea and coffee. Beautiful bed made up on sofa for son - he loved the luxury. Wonderful food,very child friendly.

  Lovely hotel but slightly let down by lack of focus on excellent service.

  Lovely room and location, comfortable and welcoming hotel.

  Overstretched service at dinner and slow service at breakfast.

  The hotel and rooms had been expensively upgraded but room was a little disappointing and the mattress sloped towards the edges.

  Furnishings and facilities were imaginative. Excellent breakfast menu and service was prompt.

  Lighting was subdued and room overlooking the bar area was noisy until 11 pm. Room needed better ventilation, window was blocked, so the vent opening was limited.

  We enjoyed the hotel a lot. It was a nice place which has clearly had a lot of time and money spent making it a lovely place to stay.

  The room was very nicely done out, the bathroom spacious with nice products. The public areas of the hotel were equally as nicely done.

  In the evening, as a hotel guest we felt like we were in the way of their main business which was a busy bar and restaurant. It was impossible to get the attention of anyone at the reception as they were so tied up with working the bar and when we arrived at 9pm, we stood for a good few minutes before anyone even noticed we were there which after a 3 hour journey wasn't a great introduction. We had to physically approach them before we got any attention. The staff were always really friendly but weren't totally efficient. They were a bit chaotic especially at breakfast. They seemed like they needed a bit of training to compliment their friendly attitude.

  Lovely place as long as you understand it's and inn with rooms and not a hotel. They need a wake up call on basic customer service to get repeat business. But we really enjoyed our weekend because the town and area are so lovely.

  Decor, location, Breakfasts

  Poor service from staff who were just not on the ball. Mostly pasant but inexperienced. At one point asked for information about where we could hire bikes. Was just told they didn't have any! The gm was standing right by me, was asked if he knew anything and he made no attempt at all to help. He was too busy chatting to his mates in the bar. On one occasion we had to retrieve our own room key from behind the desk because the staff were watching us from the other end of the bar as they chatted to each other! Very poor check out with surly girl. No apology for trying to overcharge me which I found quite shocking. But in contrast one of the girls did help us with water to clean our car windscreen. It's the inconsistency in service levels and staff demeanour which is the real issue.

  Friendly staff and an excellent hotel experience .Would recommend this hotel.

  Room 1 is very light as there is a street light outside the main window- blackout blinds would help the problem
