The George Hotel
It is a pretty building and the rooms were comfortable, so I would happily stay at the George again were I to revisit Lichfield but I would not want to eat there as things stand currently....I Was comfortable, and courteously treated, and that is the most important thing, though.
The kindness of the staff at the George was an outstandingly good point; the room was comfortable and it was a pleasure, as a single traveller, to have a reasonable size room with a reasonable size bed! But above all - the staff, from the check-in staff to the cleaners. All those I encountered were polite, pleasant and helpful beyond the ordinary.
The quality of the breakfast was not great - I asked for and obtained a poached egg, which was ok, but arrived on a side plate rather swimming in water. The rest of the breakfast was generic and not of great quality - I have had better when staying in university accommodation for a conference!! The sight of the scrambled egg was particularly unappetising, and the vats of soggy bacon came close also. It seems a shame not to offer a better quality of food to match the quality of the rest of the hotel.
