May 24, 2011We wanted to say we would stay at this hotel again giving its nice interior and beautiful surrounding but we had such a bad experience last weekend that unless there is a significant change it is unlikely that we would go back.
Beautiful lobby and breakfast room. The staff are trying to do a good job. Clean room, location is great as it is close to town centre
At the night of our stay 21 May 2011 there was a 18th birthday party, which generated a lot of noise. We were travelling with our parents and they could not sleep at all due to the noise. A very disappointed experience for us considering we travelled from London and were expecting a very high standard from Crown Hotel. We were informed about the party when we checked in, but that still did not prepare us for it and we think this is not acceptable as a prestigious hotel.

May 24, 2011Spacious rooms, info and pictures in the rooms. Comfortable beds, duvets not blankets! Historic and beautiful building.
Dreadful sound proofing - we could hear everything in the corridor and outside all night. When we returned just after midnight there was a girl propped up against the wall in the car park vomitting and there was a large group of young people in the lobby acting very agressively. We had planned on having a drink before going to bed but did not feel comfortable to do this.

May 2, 2011When booking I asked for an earlier check in time but was informed that this was not possible. In view of the fact that the hotel was far from full I would have thought that it could have been arranged.
We were not happy with the location of the room No 220 which caused us to carry our luggage up 13 stairs. As we are both in our eighties and suffer from arthritis it was difficult. Staying only for 2 nights we did not complain.

April 18, 2011Great bed, nice, large room. Unhelpful staff. Very basic under the glossy exterior.
The hotel was very grand looking and our room and bathroom were huge. The bed was one of the most comfortable ive ever slept in and the bath towels were lovely and fluffy which added to the luxurious feel of the hotel
I'm not sure if booking via a budget site gets you different treatment but I was amazed to discover no bottled water in a room that should have cost £250, I think this is a very basic provision and often a good indicator of how well a hotel looks after it's guests. One of the receptionists was rude, unhelpful and abrupt. The "restaurant" looked like a cheap pub. If I had paid full price I'd be very angry and disappointed, but for the £55 I paid I thought it was reasonable.

April 14, 2011Made to feel welcome very relaxing plus very comfy bed. One of the best hotel experiences we have had
Very clean spacious room. Excellent bathroom facilities. Very good room service
Lighting in the suite & breakfast area could be improved. Choice of green teas and chocolate would improve in-room drinks making

April 12, 2011In general myself and my wife were very disappointed considering the money paid out for what was supposed to have been an overnight break from our very busy schedules back in York. I did leave completed customer feedback questionnaire but do not have the confidence that this has reached the appropriate line management as I would have expected a call or mail to expand on points. I have put no regarding return to stay but if I could be assured of a decent night's stay I would book again. It may be an idea expand the question relating to staying again with a comments box to enable reasons to be put as to why you would not stay again. These comments could then be acted upon and thereby enhance the Customer Experience.
Internet booking quite simple (however see bad points relating below). General cleanliness of rooms and hotel very good. Staff in general - good and especially night duty manager who had to attend twice to sort television out. Very good choice at breakfast where staff also very friendly and helpful.
On arrival found that the hotel had my name on the booking form correct but a totally different/unknown address relating to my name. Room very warm and small portable fan/cooling unit was not working. Television reception atrocious and television was not working properly as it took forever to turn on and then continued to switch itself off and also on to different channels. As mentioned above the duty manager attended and having fixed! The issue once, was just out the door when we had to call him back.

April 8, 2011Great, a lovely hotel in a very beautiful town. Superb staff that made the differnece between a good stay and an exceptional stay.
We had our room upgraded to a suite. The staff were exceptional and very accomodating to our 12 week old daughter. Fantastic

March 22, 2011Generally was a good stay as it is ideally located in the centre of town. Need to sort something regarding parking discounts locally(?) We do normally stay at Travelodge or Premier Inn but as it was my partner's birthday, felt I should get somewhere a bit nicer. Paid £90 for the night which I feel is quite expensive for the room. I do feel like the communal areas are looked after better than the rooms so non residents get a better deal. Friends recommended the hotel but have only eaten there and thoroughly enjoyed their evening.
I thought the staff were very friendly and helpful and the communal areas were very good and well presented. Bathroom was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the powerful shower. Location was ideal as only walking distance to the centre.
The rooms needed a bit of a refresher. The walls needed a good clean/paint with uneven marks getting rid of. Skirting boards needed a good clean too. Parking is a nightmare!!

March 22, 2011Loved the stay that I had, even with lack of sleep
Excellent location
Floor boards are too squeeky, the above room, woke me up very early, with the floor boards noisy, walking around. Very tired as wasn't able to sleep properly, due to this problem.

March 22, 2011I couldnt recommend anyone to stay here due to not being able to sleep, it defeated the whole purpose of staying overnight instead of driving home the same day
The staff were friendly. Hotel clean and tidy. Room was a nice size and beds were comfy. Breakfast was lovely and the choice was fantastic
Inadequate parking. Floorboards were so creaky and loud. This spoilt my stay as when the occupants of the room above returned at 01.30am the noise from the floorboards (not the guests) woke me and my son and kept us awake for the 40 mins the walked about. Again the same when they got up really early

March 29, 2011See above.
I can only assume our room was beneath staff quarters of some kind - I was woken up at 7am by a huge amount of noise (banging, stamping, etc) coming from the room above and this continued right up until we checked out at 11am. This was extremely frustrating and ruined our stay. I would not stay in The Crown again.

April 2, 2011Enjoyed our stay booked for 3 nights for husband birthday, and I was really happy with the room they gave us on 1st floor, big room with bay window over looking the front, would not liked to have been put in back room though looking at a wall maybe we were lucky.
Hotel in a great spot ideal for everything around breakfast was really good, lots of choose, and lovely big white fluffy towels
Only bad point nowhere to park and it is bad, told there might be room at back of hotel but there is only about 6 spaces and they where taken.we paid £3 for 3 hours to park across the road when we arrived and lucky enough after we booked in someone moved off the front so it was a race to get in before any one else. Not Good. Not happy about booking in time 3pm when mainly every where else is 2pm

April 26, 2011Lovely weekend, but would probably try a different hotel next time
Nice Hotel in lovely location, good breakfast
Room very small for the room rate. Henry's Bar didn't open until 11pm which left the only bar in the hotel with inadequate seating available

Nice but as I said too expensive for what it was
Staff were friendly and rooms were clean.
I thought £160 was overpriced for what we got. Also no heating when it was very cold and a shortage of bedclothes.
