Lavenham is one of the best-preserved Tudor villages in Britain, and The Swan is perhaps one of England's finest historic hotels. The building has been carefully restored and beautifully renovated, with ancient oak beams, large open fireplaces and a minstrel gallery.
Decorated in warm, relaxing colours, the en suite rooms combine period features with modern facilities. Each includes a flat-screen plasma TV and facilities for making tea and coffee.
The Swan serves modern British cuisine, made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can dine in the informal Brasserie and historic Old Bar. Al fresco dining is possible in the garden, as well as fine dining in the elegant Gallery Restaurant.

The Swan
Swan is very old and as such there are lots of long corridors and steps so easy to get lost (we did once). Room was large and clean but being so old the ventilation is not great (secondary glazing over windows made them difficult to open) We were lucky to have gorgeous weather so room got a bit stuffy. The biggest disappointment was the dinner menu. You are only offered three course deals when we require either one course or sometimes two. The two options were house menu for £26 which was very basic more like a pub menu. Then the next one was £35 and two of the mains were at a supplement of between £4 and £5. Vegatables offered with each dish were very basic and then there was another charge if you wanted more. Decided that we would be spening in the region of £100 for a 3 course meal we did not want so went elsewhere. Breakfast is wholly waitress service when a buffet service is better for the cold items. My bowl of fruit was too large and my husbands cereal too small. Although you could ask for more you don't tend too.

Brasserie is really just the bar area. Menu to restrictive and expensive for what it was
