Our luggage was lost and the staff unable to provide phone chargers or anything other than a toothbrush to us.

"As someone who has stayed in four star hotels all round the world (on business) I can categorically state that this hotel does not merit four stars." (108361270)
Some of the hotel staff were pleasant and obliging.
1) Hotel shabby and in need of refurbishment (particularly bedrooms, judging by my own). Worn/stained carpets and furniture, disgustingly discoloured grout and mastic etc. 2) At no stage was I told that the hotel restaurant would be closed all over Christmas, unless you had booked a short, cheap Christmas break. As someone who had, in contrast, paid over £1000 I was told that I could be treated as a "non-resident" and allowed to book Christmas meals. However, when I tried to attend one I booked, I was informed that, instead of joining the other guests for a gala evening with music I would be required to eat my meal in a separate room on my won. I retired to my bedroom in tears - this is an appalling way to treat a guest.

"Generally good, may stay again if they have better offer!" (107685157)
Very spacious room with the view of Arthur Seat.Staff are courteous, close to royal mile, very convenient.
The air conditioned temperature would be not enough at hotter days, too dim at swimming pool area, can add more varieties on breakfast food as compared with other leading hotels.

"After complaining about our first room we were moved to a much nicer room, but we were only there for 2 nights so it did spoil our weekend." (108010397)
Position of the hotel to the city was excellent
The first room we were given at 12.45am was in the converted attic and extremley poor, decor, bed everything.

"Overall an enjoyable stay but we barely slept and returned home more exhausted than when we left!" (107784457)
Food at the hotel was excellent. Bar is nice, friendly and comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly. Very well positioned hotel, great for all amenities, Royal mile, restaurants, bars etc.
Two lights in the room didn't work. The windows don't keep any outside noise quiet so sleeping was very difficult. The radiator didn't turn down, regardless of how much the dial was twiddled, which meant that to keep cool the air conditioning had to be on full all night, which added to the noise and made sleeping even more difficult than it already was.

Staff friendly, good food, Evening meal restaurant service excellent.
Room needed dusting around the edge of the carpet and on television stand. When we booked in it had been booked in my forename instead of surname.

"apart from the mix up with our booking price we were perfectly happy with the hotel and its staff. would reccommend the hotel to anyone wishing to visit edinburgh - would just say take a copy of your confirmation email with you so you have proof of the price you booked for. the actual booking process on the internet site was fine, would use it again" (97395517)
hotel was smack in centre of edinburgh so whatever you wanted was nearby. hotel itself was clean, staff were helpful, food was good
wasnt at all happy with problems we encountered booking in - was good job i had taken a copy of the email confirming our booking and the price we had booked at because when we booked in at first they couldnt even find our booking and then they were trying to charge us alot more for our room and were saying breakfast was not included. was embarrasing having to prove what our booking details were. also when we went for breakfast the first morning we wernt even on their list and then on the third morning we were told we had to pay and then had to wait whilst it was sorted - all this with other guests staring at us - all extremely embarrassing

"I asked for a room at the back of the hotel as I had read reviews that these were quieter. Although the view was fantastic, it overlooked what I can only assume was the kitchen roof, and also air conditioning units which emitted a humming noise all night. A couple of lights in the room did not work and a mirror in the bathroom was hanging off. If you use the room as a good base to explore the city rather than a luxurious get away, you won't be disappointed. The room was reasonably priced, given it's central location; on the doorstep of the Royal Mile and only a couple of minutes walk from Princes Street." (97472964)
Good central location for shops/restaurants.
Room dusty and not everything working.

"Generally enjoyed our one night at this hotel because the room was beautiful. Sleep deprived from the street noises but I think one must expect this in this location. Hotel staff definitely not as freindly as in Canada. I would have liked to have known that the hotel street is above the Waverley train station street as we walked quite a distance with our bags before we discovered this. We then climbed multiple stairs up one close before we reached the hotel level which by the map I thought was right next door." (97918416)
Beautiful big room with high ceilings, large window overlooking Royal Mile.
Because of location it was quite noisy until about 0300 a.m. because of bars etc across the street.

"Disappointing experience for the money. While the hotel was fine the noise from the street was terrible - mostly the buses and as the windows could not be closed it was not a relaxing sleep." (99645089)
size of the room and bathroom facilities
the noise was terrible and the windows could not be shut to block out the noise, sleeping was difficult as a result.

Fabulous room, very comfortable.
Noise from the street kept us awake most of the night! We appreciate it was a Friday night! Triple glazing may help!

"I was very disappointed with the standard of this hotel. The location is excellent and the staff are generally helpful but the room was of a very poor standard. It was located beside noisy extraction fans. It had not been hoovered properly, the bathroom floor had not been cleaned - there was talcum powder on it. There were brown marks on the grout in the bathroom and the decor was generally tired. It was poor value for money." (97645779)
It was central.
The room was situated beside noisy extraction vents. The room was shoddy and neither it nor the bathroom were adequately cleaned.

"This hotel is easy to find, the staff are very helpful and informative. Rooms are of a good size and use quality linen but don't expect large bath towels. Overall, I would recommend this hotel." (97131633)
Excellent for the train station, centrally located and comfortable
It was unfortunate that the room had not been checked thoroughly. A member of staff had to come and collect some underwear of a previous guest.

"We had a lovely visit to Edinburgh and the central location was wonderful. When we checked in and witched rooms, weren't told about the noise ramifications of the change. I'm not sure we would have changed rooms if I would have known we would be overlooking the street near a busy corner." (99457455)

no shower plastic hair cover, bathroom tiles showing meldew, worst feature - noise from outside(very loud at 02.00 am), limited milk for tea making, no sewing kit
