"We shall certainly recommend The Belfry to our friends." (108633530)
The owners - Neil & Sarah-Jane - are a charming couple who worked very hard to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. Sarah-jane's cooking is first class and vey much the highlight of our weekend. My wife has a dairy allergy and Sarah-Jane went out of her way to adapt her ingredients accordingly - a rare treat!
Our bathroom was a bit tired and could do with a power shower.

"The Belfry is not a hotel, it lacks the facilities of a hotel. If we talk about it being a 'Guest House' then it is an excellent example of a guest house, however we were expecting a hotel and we were disappointed. However I would stay there again now that I know and as I said the overall experience was a positive one." (108439147)
The food was excellent and service levels were also good. The owners are a lovely couple. The communal areas are also decorated to a good standard (lounge and dining room). The bedroom was very clean and tidy and had some really nice touches (wine, chocolate etc).
The room was a strange mix of nice modern details and things that had obviously been there since the 80's and needed updating (bathroom). The bedroom was also over the lounge with some sound intrusion, although this did not go on very late as the owners were mindful of the fact.

"This is a lovely small hotel which has some excellent finishing touches to the rooms and the service." (108533152)
Excellent food. Breakfast was very good and the evening meal a culinary masterpiece.
Mattress on bed too soft and therefore led to poor sleep

"Very enjoyable" (108629463)
The dinner was excellent, and the requirement to choose one's meal 24 hours ahead, although unusual, was no problem. the staff (owners) were very friendly and obliging.
Not really a bad point, but the website through which we booked did not directly lead us to the above "24 hours in advance" requirement, so we had to be contacted and "reminded"

"Very enjoyable - but a bit over priced . Re question below I possibly wouldn't stay again - only because of the price v quality comparison " (108501137)
Hospitality, standard of food
Bedroom layout - could not watch TV comfortably (Shelley Room) Fittings/decoration in bedroom looked a little tired and lower quality.(e.g white formica wardrobe, wallpaper peeling in bathroom). Food great - but at breakfast not very much of it (only 1 egg )

Excellent Service, very friendly and relaxed. Made to feel very welcome. Free Internet access useful.
Limited food options (restuarant closed on Tuesday's), and no room service.

"Very nice. Just what we needed in location, food, atmosphere and views. We would've liked to stay longer. " (107863779)
The welcome was friendly. Dinner was excellent and much appreciated after a day spent travelling. Breakfast was far removed from days spent in stuffy b&b's with an awkward atmosphere and 'rations'. Nice to have towels supplied, and all the extra touches like bottled water in the room. The view was stunning.
Sound travelled easily from one room to another, but due to the design of the building, I really can't see how that could be altered. I wouldn't really deem this a major problem. I suppose you can have modern and bland, or you can have character - The Belfry falls into the latter category.

"Intially the website gives a "luxury" feel to the potential of the stay, this was actually not the case for me when I arrived...the hallway is very dark and poorly lit..along with dark carpets etc...and heavy leather furniture in the guest sitting room this did not help...whilst the owners are very nice and welcoming...I was offered a glass of wine on arrival...I felt the wine was very expensive at almost £4 a glass..shown on my bill at checkout, along with the evening meal and pudding at £22, which whilst very good food, was a lot more than I would pay in a good local restaraunt. The bed in the room was very comfortable and fitted with perfect white cotton bedlinen...however..I was woken every 15 mins throughout the night by the chiming church clock nearby...!! Generally I think the owners have put in a great effort, but the attention to detail on the building. its decor, and the general finish, does not warrant the cost per night for B&B..." (108618688)
Location was ideal for my purpose
Shower(was attached to bath taps) in the ensuite was impractical as it was too low and did not provide a good facility, I had to have a bath instead.!. The ensuite was more of a large cupboard, rather than a bathroom, and very dark, with poor lighting throughout. I had to close the door to have a shave, as the mirror was obscured by the door when open. Ceiling of ensuite was flaking above the bath where paint has got wet in the past and clearly this had been there for some time. Room was a bit of a mismatch of furniture and not well coordinated in style or colours and finishes..a poor average in quality. Car park view - Window frames were badly in need of painting as they had flaky and weathered finish...both inside and outside. Had to order my evening meal 24 hrs in advance of my stay

"Really pleased we chose this B&B. Certainly recommend to others." (107510749)
Warmly welcomed by hospitable owners, who ensured that everything was to our liking. Two friends joined us for dinner and they too received a warm welcome from the owners. The combination of truly excellent food and 'homely' ambiance ensured that our evening was thoroughly enjoyable. The owners' passion for food and attention to detail was evident throughout our short stay. Our room was pleasant and had everything we needed.
The background noise from the chiller in the bar area might be a nuisance for some.

"Overall, a great place for a short stay in an area where there is limited accommodation options. The owners have recently taken over and are very enthusiastic and friendly. " (107566336)
Clean, friendly staff, recently decorated room and throughout the B&B overall.
The room was much smaller than the image portrayed on the website, the shower in the room was positioned far too low to be of any use to average and tall people and thought the dining / breakfast room a bit small.

"Very pleasant and relaxing once you got used to the noise." (107540500)
Sarah-Jane and Neil were very welcoming, friendly, polite and helpful. They seemed to be interested in their guests and treated them with respect.
We had the ground floor room which was very noisy from people using the stairs and we could hear people talking in any of the downstairs rooms. The owners are aware of this and have the matter in hand.

"We received a very warm welcome, and a cup of tea, on arrival. The room was a little small and in close proximity to other rooms but the attention to detail within the room and cleanliness more than made up for the former. The food was excellent and a lovely balance between presentation, creativity and home cooking. The hotel is in a lovely location in the centre of the village." (97891012)
