An architecturally intriguing country house, here you can relax amid beautiful lounges and thoughtfully furnished rooms. Throughout the hotel you will be surrounded by fine antiques, paintings and sumptuous furnishings. Take a traditional Welsh tea in the drawing room, beside an inviting log fire; or, in the summer, let it be brought out to the garden, beneath the chestnut tree. Later, enjoy a candlelit meal in the award-winning restaurant, complemented by a wine list to rival any in Wales.

To aid your relaxation further, the on site Kingfisher Spa offers a peaceful 15 metre swimming pool, supplemented by a sauna, gym and an outdoor balcony hot-tub. A range of health and beauty treatments allow body and mind to truly unwind.

The house is an architectural mix, having been built in 1840 and remodelled in 1900. Mock-Tudor timber are contrasted by Colonial style verandas and French windows. Built as a hunting and fishing lodge, the hotel has a rich history; from the turn of the 20th century until World War II, it was the only barium spa resort outside of Germany.

Back in 1912 Germany's Wilhelm II left his homeland and made the long journey to this secluded hideaway in Mid-wales, into order to take in the legendary barium spa waters and to sample the much-fabled Welsh hospitality.

More than 90 years on, an air of elegance and calm informality pervades this exquisitely furnished Welsh country house. Standing serenely in its own 50 acres of parkland, with sweeping lawns, rhododendron lined pathways and riverside walks, this magnificent retreat is comfort epitomised.

In its award-winning restaurant, fresh local ingredients and creative thought combine to create a modern Celtic style of cuisine. Dishes are freshly prepared using the finest produce, including herbs from its on garden. Served with sparkling crystal amid a soft, candlelit atmosphere, you'll also have a superb choice of over 300 wines.

Routebeschrijving

By Car From the M4: - Exit the M4 at junction 24 and follow the A449 towards Raglan. - Take the A40, for the Abergavenny to Brecon route. - Go through Brecon and turn left at the cathedral onto the B4519 towards Upper Chapel, then turn left for Llangammarch Wells. - Drive across Mount Eppynt for 9.5 km (6 miles) and turn left at the crossroads at the bottom of the hill. - The hotel is approximately 1.5 km (one mile) along on the right. From the A483: Travelling along the A483 from Builth Wells towards Llandovery, just after entering Garth turn left, following signs for The Lake Country House. By Train (from Llangammarch Railway Station, 1.1 km / 0.7 miles): Exit the station and head back across it the railway line, over the bridge that crosses the parallel stretch of the river. Turn left and keep straight on and you will soon reach the hotel.
