Situated in the centre of Saluzzo, a town of rich in art and culture, this hotel offers an ideal base for exploring its many treasures.

Once the seat of the ancient Marquisate, Saluzzo is today one of the most exclusive centres for the production of artistic furniture and restoration. The majestic Monviso mountain overlooks the city, with its 12th century Cistercian abbey of Staffarda and the castle of Manta. In the upper town, you will find the Casa Cavassa, a Renaissance mansion which houses the Municipal Museum, containing period furniture and paintings. The church of San Giovanni, in French Gothic style, contains 14th century frescoes, sculpture of the Lombard school and the tomb of Lodovico II (d. 1504). The Castello Via Griselda leads to the Belvedere, a 16th century villa from whose terrace you can enjoy spectacular views of the Alps.

Informatie over het gebied

A 5 minute bus ride south of Saluzzo, from outside the train station, is the Castello della Manta. This medieval fortress was transformed into a stately residence by the Saluzzo marquises in the 15th century. It contains Gothic frescoes in the Baronial Hall, one of which, illustrates the myth of the fountain of youth, with elderly people walking towards the magical waters while others impatiently rip off their clothes to plunge in. Another, the Nine Heroes and Nine Heroines, depicts chivalrous courtiers and exquisite damsels with elaborate costumes, standing beneath trees with coats of arms hanging from the branches.
