    Excellent Rooms, Excellent Breakfasts, Friendly welcolming staff.

    At the top end of my price range for a weekend away (but definately worth the money though).

    Very large room. Very clean. Comfortable bed.

    Shower head needed fixing. (Didn't report this until checking out and the reception staff were very apologetic - I'm sure it's now been fixed!) Could do with air conditioning as it was very hot and we needed to open the windows and the traffic was very noisy both early evening and early morning.

    Nice atmospheric hotel with very helpful staff, good parking facilities and a reasonable bathroom.

    The evening meal was a bit more show than substance and probably we would eat out in future. This was offset by an excellent breakfast although our request for two poached eggs on our smoked haddock was not met.

    Room was spacious and well-equipped.

    Staff serving breakfast were very rushed, mixed up food orders and clattered unecessarily loudly when clearing away.

    Unfortunately our room was on the front of the hotel and had a lot of traffic noise at times.

    Hotel clean and tidy with good food. The staff were very welcoming and eager to please. Adequate parking behind hotel.

    The single room was very small and the view from the window was level with the roof so the outlook was not pleasant.

    Great Staff Parking Garden Area

    No Shaver Point, which in this day and in this standard of hotel is a must. Electric Sockets mounted under dressing table, making it impossible to use the hair dryer. Chest of draws placed in front of wardrobe door, making it difficult to open door.

    Delightful hotel, better than expected even though we had picture etc. from internet. Staff were more than helpful and provided us with one of our rooms earlier than check-in time, if that was not available they were going to let us use another for an hour as had a wedding to prepare for. Liked the well stocked tea/coffee tray.

    Friendly staff,excellent breakfast beautifully cooked,(I had smoked haddock with poached egg and black pudding)free parking, central forest and village location.Good value for money. The tiniest lift in the world, with its old folding metal gates,is an experience not to be missed!

    Lyndhurst is a bit of a bottle kneck for traffic so going all the way round the one way system (depending which way you come in)to get to the hotel,takes quite a time. They seemed to have the wrong address for us when we checked in.Dinner menu was rather limited. Try the Chinese, diagonally opposite.It's won lots of awards and was the best Chinese meal we've had in 35 years!

    Staff were very efficient, friendly and attentive. The quality of the food was superb.

    Not being a dog lover; I was a little perturbed to see dogs allowed into the lounge area of the hotel.

    Checking in for 1 night over Easter weekend good - some places won't take 1 night booking in this area particularly holiday time.

    Check out very slow - a queue formed through 1 awkward transaction.

    Problems were quickly and satisfactorily sorted.

    Room was cold and had very loud plumbing noises. Upon complaint we were instantly upgraded and well looked after.

    Staff very helpful and friendly. Food excellent, service quick and efficient. Room warm and clean.

    Room noisy from traffic sound especially during rush hours. The look of the room was a bit shabby as the furniture could have been of better quality and there were holes in the bedspread, also one of the bedside lamps went wrong but was sorted out by staff quickly.

    Good location, parking and breakfast. Easy room up grade- though it was a very quiet time of year.

    Not quite the cosy, country hotel as expected- quite large with bar area in restaurant. Was looking for a quaint bar with log fire as advertised. When asked we were told the fire would be lit if we booked a meal in the restaurant! Double room was far too small so we had to up- grade.

    Staff were friendly and helpful as we were going to a wedding and had to check in before 3pm. Our room was in fact ready for us but if it hadn't been we would have been given another room in which to change. Room was exceptionally good due to its size. For a longer stay the hotel grounds and the sitting room areas could be enjoyed fully.

    Space in the dining room for breakfast was limited which is fine if being served but as it was self service it was slightly difficult to manoever round the tables.

    "The staff were excellent - it is such a pity that it has to be foreign staff working hard and cheerfully that show up the terrible state we have been suffering for years! The bar food was excellent as was the breakfast. The floor boards creak terribly - we were fine on the top floor, I hate to think how the people under us must have suffered. Toilet is situated too close to the ensuite door and toilet roll (especially in the middle of the night!). I think it would be better if the wash basin and toilet positions were swapped.(we were in room 207).The electric wiring looked old. But really we enjoyed ourselves so much - I don't think I needed to know more before booking and we may well come again." (97771457)

    It was warm and comfortable and had tremendous character.

    Pillows on the bed were uncomfortable; the room was adequate - it gave the impression of being squeezed in; we are now used to duvets rather than restricting blankets.

    Staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything in the room was clean and in good working order. Excellent shower.

    It would have been good to be told that we needed to book early for dinner in the restaurant. Having said that, the bar meal was excellent.

    "The location and hotel facilities were very pleasant and we very much enjoyed the stay. Breakfast and the bar were good and the staff very pleasant. However the room whilst reasonably priced, and therefore it seems excusable that it did not look brand new, smelled strongly of smoke which was in retrospect very disappointing." (97220117)

    The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel was generally very relaxing and well presented. The room had a lovely view of the church opposite.

    The room smelled strongly of smoke despite us leaving the windows open all afternoon, and the room and bathroom generally looked tired.

    "Again the majority of staff were exceptional and this to me is what makes a hotel special and one I would return to. The cleanliness and condition of rooms and communal spaces was very good." (99112253)

    Friendly hotel. Room was a good size and quiet. very comfortable. Most staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly - particularly bar staff on Saturday night/early sunday morning and the male receptionist on Saturday.

    Only one dislike was the initial unhelpfulness of one female member of staff on reception on Saturday, when we enquired about booking a taxi. We were told we should have booked it earlier as they were scarce and then given a bundle of taxi cards to use. After having no joy, a staff member on reception was more helpful and did book a taxi for us. As we had booked into the hotel with no car (the train station being in the next village) it would have been obvious that we would require a taxi at some point, and perhaps it would have been good to advise us at this point of the potential difficulty with taxis. The following day (Sunday) we asked for a taxi and the staff were very helpful.
