    "We stayed at the hotel due to a wedding in the area and all other hotels in the small area fully booked. We got an excellent deal with activehotels so didn't pay full price for the room, if we had paid full price we would have been very disappointed but due to paying such a reduced price the hotel was adequate for the time we were there, the beer garden was really lovely, however the ashtrays were well overflowing.. the rooms could do with an update but were clean."     The staff in the bar were really nice, friendly, very pleasant and hard working.. Room was big and clean. Beer garden was really beautiful and well kept.

    Very out dated room The door wasnt very secure it was dubious as to whether it was going to lock or not One of the beds was higher at the bottom than the top Breakfast was totally disorganised, and the staff needed to be prompted for example - there were no spoons to eat cereal only teaspoons, we had to ask for toast, then we had to ask for butter, there was no milk on the table, we had to ask for tomato sauce as there wasn't any left, the toast was burnt.. the breakfast staff were just young lads which were very pleasant but could have done with someone over looking what was going on.

    pleasant comfortable and spacious room which is such a treat for a solo traveller as we often find ourselves placed in one-up from the broom cupboard!

    None really; some guests a little noisy going in and out of their friends rooms and banging doors in the process but this, while irritating, is not unexpected on holiday.

    "This was a 2 star hotel and we paid £45 for the night bed and breakfast which was very good value for mmoney - although the 'common' needed work, we were very pleasantly surprised with the bedroom and the quality of the food. " (107999731)

    Room clean. Staff friendly. Evening meal lovely. Breakfast lovely.

    Common areas - reception/staircase/bar needs some TLC as everything is looking a bit 'tired'. The outside of the building also needed a coat of paint.

    All staff very friendly and welcoming. Rooms clean and well maintained. Meals well priced, varied and substantial. A village inn used by locals which has kept its own individual authentic atmosphere.

    The staff were very friendly and helpful.. the food was excellent both the included breakfast and the evening meals

    We had a problem with our shower, the temprature could not be changed.. but we did not report it till check out so we can't grumble that they didn't put it right.

    "Cheap, functional and cheerful for the price, a youth hostel is only a few pounds less. If you are going with a party of lads or girlies for the weekend then it is probably ideal. " (107438161)

    Called to say we would not arrive till late and the staff kindly informed us that all food availabilty would be finished by 8.45pm. Bar open till late so that was a bonus. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice and good value. An individual pot of tea or coffee at the table would have improved service.Surprisingly the bed was very comfy with a welcoming duvet in very nice white linen.

    Hotel is not very clean by anybodys standards- even if they do accommodate walkers etc there is a whiff of dusty uncleaniness about the whole building. Carpet was loose on the stairs to our room.

    The hotel was excellent, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It is highly unlikely we will be travelling in that area again but would certainly stay at the Percy Arms and recommend it to friends.

    "I would certainly make sure that there was no wedding being held and that they could provide a decent sized room before even thinking about going back. We only needed a room where we could sleep, but my husband and I did not get much sleep due to the noise." (107570446)

    The lady on reception tried to be helpful, but she could not do much, as, of the 4 free rooms, one had a leak and the other was filled with cigarette smoke and was above the wedding reception. She was, however, extremely friendly. The twin room was good. The breakfast was very good.

    The double room was extremely small (although the twin was large) and, unfortunately, backed onto a terrace at the back of the hotel where customers could go to smoke. As there was a wedding reception being held in the hotel, this was extremely noisy and, in the middle of the night, there was a frightful row or disagreement or over-excitedness which woke us in a panic. The noise on the terrace was constant and we therefore could not open the window during the night, which would have been helpful to get some fresh air, as the room was so small. The noise in the corridor was frightful, with people running up and down until very late. We had been offered another room when we arrived, but were told that as it was above the room where the reception was being held, it would be even more noisy than the small one - also when we visited that room, it was filled with cigarette smoke.

    Check in staff were very courteous and helpful. The room was clean and well presented with a lovely view of the gardens.

    The room was quite a trek from reception, up a flight of stairs then back down a flight. The room had no shower, only a bath. Breakfast was served 8 - 10am - we arrived at breakfast at 9am to be faced with a room of dirty tables, staff who didn't seem to care and no sausages or bacon left. The coffee was undrinkable.

    A warm welcome,Excellent evening meal and breakfast,Staff were polite and helpful,We stayed at the Towers for a wedding the following night and found we enjoyed the percy arms staff and accomodation to be the better experience.Rooms were cleaner,and staff much more friendly and efficent.

    Room was a nice size with a good sized bathroom. Comfortable beds, nice garden and pleasant breakfast.

    Communal passageway narrow, steep stairs and in poor repair. Room in need of a refurb (wallpaper coming off/ showerhead holder broken etc) and a proper clean. Stayed on night of a party (no advance warning despite e-mail communication from me to hotel on other points prior to stay)and thumping music until early hours

    Friendly and helpful staff Great food

    Hotel a little 'tired', being renovated bit by bit. They had really tried with our room was spacious, but was a little like 'the house that Jack built', with odd DIY touches and small things to be fixed, like several doorknobs missing, loose tiles and a duvet which was too small for the (lumpy) bed.

    Reasoable for one night. Good breakfast and pleasant location

    Disapponting restuarant basically non available - only cramped coffee shop stlye area or noisy bar for evening meals. Fair food but quite expensive for what it was. VERY noisy room overlooking rear hotel entrance - especially at closing time at 3am on a Sunday morning. Ok bedroom. Poor |TV. Tight and only fairly clean bathroom. Rooms a bit worb

    Bed was comfortable,

    No double glazing,condenation on inside of windows because of this water was running down windows, shower not very good.Breakfast poor.

    "It was pleasant and we shall be back. The staff were generally friendly - service a bit slow but we were not in a rush. There was confusion in the restaurant at dinner over who had ordered what and it felt as if the restaurant was being run by Basil Faulty but the end results were good. Only one staff member could be said to let the side down and that was the girl in the public bar with the music set to pain level and no interest in the job only the local lads!" (99181954)

    "Entire Hotel is in need of a complete refurbishment. Our bathroom was dark and very run down (and unfortunately, not especially clean). Towels and linen were spotless, but a little tired.     "As said before, as check in time was from two in the afternoon onwards, all rooms should be checked and cleaned by that time, my room wasn't, which spoiled my stay and overall view of the inn as an appeared relaxed view of the no smoking rooms was taken!" (99241729)

    Staff were friendly and beer and food was good

    First room stank of smoke, but resolved by offering another room. If the first room had not stunk of smoke, the overall experience would have been very good. Check in time was stated from two in the afernoon onwards, the room should have been cleaned by that time and not smelling of smoke with a full ashtray if cigarette buts.

    "I arranged this overnight stay, with friends, as a Birthday surprise for my Husband and the staff could not have been any nicer or kept the secret any better - they were fantastic. Our room was large and very clean. We stayed in the hotel for our evening meal, which was lovely as was the breakfast the following morning. The general feel of the hotel was welcoming and the fact that the decoration and furnishings are an ongoing project in some areas, it did not in any way spoil our stay.     I arranged this overnight stay, with friends, as a surprise for my Husband and the staff could not have been any nicer or kept the secret any better - they were fantastic. The accommodation and general feel of the hotel is welcoming and the food was lovely.

    Even though furnishings and decoration were being updated, they tried very hard to hide the fact and we will be back to see the finished result, which I am sure will be stunning.

    Light, clean. Big beds make for better sleep. Vital after a long drive !

    Inadequate vanity surfaces in bathroom for washbag etc. 1 lightbulb gone. Wall lights above dressing table not working. So easy to check. Irritating.

    "unfortunately during our stay the chef was ill so missed out on his cuisine but the food that we were served was excellent, dont eat during the day though the portions are huge (steak and ale pie is superb)the room we stayed in was clean and well presented and i would deffinately stay at this hotel again.     "On the whole we enjoyed our stay at The Percy Arms Hotel. Perfect for 'passing through' as not much within walking distance. Room was clean and nicely presented with all usual facilities i.e hairdryer,tea/coffee etc. Would have liked to have had a shower as well as a bath(even if it had been just a hand held hose type)this would have made washing hair a lot easier! Walls did seem a bit thin able to hear next doors water running, toilet flushing etc but not too much of a big deal. All in all prety good value for money." (2787478)

    Room was nice, lovely outlook to the gardens. Great breakfast, friendly staff.

    Corridors could do with freshen up. Our bathroom door was hard to open and close. No shower which was inconvenient.Bar could have done with a bit of an update too.
