    Good value, great location, mainly helpful and hospitable and friendly staff.

    Attentiveness of staff in restaurant was a bit disappointing both in the evening and at breakfast.

    Great staff, lovely location.

    No record of ActiveHotels booking was found on our arrival at hotel. Thankfully, they were not fully booked. Hotel decor somewhat dated and drab.

    Beds in the twin room were very narrow - it was a king size split in two, not even two full single beds As narrow as the beds were, were duvet coverings were even narrower - they didn't cover a normal sized person without gaps on each side The radiator in the room is stupidly placed - being behind very thick drapes, it fails to warm the room effectively. Fortunately staff was very helpful in providing an electric heater. Booking and check-out process was not handled well. At time of booking, a credit card was required. But only upon check-out were we told that the room was not pre-paid. Not realizing this we had almost left without paying.

    "I received warm and happy welcome from reception staff, and was shown to my small but beautifully appointed loch-view room. I only had breakfasts in the hotel,and was very satisfied with a delicious, cold smoothie on the first morning and a perfectly presented cooked breakfast on my second day. I did use my free time to explore the immediate area, and enjoyed a lengthy walk around the hotel grounds. It would have been helpful to have had a small map of where paths lead to. Many thanks to all staff who made my short stay a very pleasant one. I have already convinced my partner that we should stay with you when we are touring the area later this year." (97284565)

    "We stayed at the hotel on a 2 for 1 offer which was good value but I would not have been happy to pay full price for the stay. The staff were very friendly but there weren't enought of them. The food was good. Room bit small & ensuite especially in need of renovation. Castle setting & views were amazing. Great place to have dogs with you." (97394207)

    The building is very impressive along with the location. Staff were friendly. The views from the dining area are also lovely.

    The accomodation is extremely dated and rather dissapointing, given the impressive approach to the building. Needs extensive upgrade.

    "From the drive to the hotel, including as you go down the long driveway, the location is breathtaking. The views at mealtimes are some of the best I've seen for a hotel (bettered only by my stays at hotels in Niagara and Banff) - peaceful and an excellent place to escape to. Would thoroughly recommend the hotel though I'd like to see the decor improved even at the risk of paying more to stay." (97058431)

    Location, location, location! Friendly and professional staff (with a sense of humour :-) ), reasonable prices for excellent evening meal.

    Close to greatness! Needs room decor sprucing up, sitting in the window when the sun is on you can get rather warm!

    "If the food was improved upon this hotel has the potential to be great. the rooms could do with a revamp, but again the views made up for this. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I would not visit the hotel again until there was a promise that the chef or swallow hotels had got their act together and delivered what they promised and that is fine dining with locally sourced food.     "Dinner was fantastic and I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys lovely scenery, good food, good wine and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The extension area where the bulk of the rooms are jarrs with the rest of the castle, however, internally it is fine. The rooms are a bit dated and could be doing with some refurbishment, particularly the bathroom. Walls were a bit thin, so, hope you don't get a loud snorer through the wall from you (as we did)... however, staff were extremely friendly and accomodating and overall, it was a great night."     We liked the hotel (Stonefield Hotel) very much. Its atmospehere was superb, and the hotel people were excellent.

    Quality and view

    I had to depart from the hotel before the scheduled breakfast times, consequently I was provided with a tray on the evening which contained cereal, fruit juice (not chilled),milk (in a smelly flask) and a croissant that was wrapped in cling foil and was stale. Surely this could be improved?

    "We enjoyed our stay very much, and will certainly stay at the Stonefield Castle Hotel again. The whole place, including the grounds, has a great charm and elegance. The food was excellent, as was the service at table. Views from the dining area are outstanding. There were no faults to be found - except the front door to the reception area, which is of a modern steel / glass construction, and fully functional of course, but looks starkly out of place on the front of such a fine old building."     "Stonefield Castle is situated in one of the most scenic areas of Scotland.The road links from Glasgow are excellent and the drive there is very enjoyable on its own merit. The building itself ,the loch-side location and mature grounds all add to the overall experience.The food we had was excellent (traditional Scottish fayre, home made breads and flavoured butters ) and the dining room staff were very pleasant. The dining room has picture windows on three sides and affords views out over the gardens and eastwards across loch Fyne when the weather is fine and clear.If you are booking a budget break, don't expect a room with a sea view as you will be allocated one of the smaller rooms facing the parking area at the rear.This hotel has some old world charm if you like tartan covered chairs and carpets and solid wood finishes.A log fire greets you as you enter the hallway and the smell of the wood smoke permiates the upper floors.I have only one small regret........the bar did not stock any traditional Scottish ales of which there are many but could only offer a poor selection of inferior mass produced beers and lagers."
