    "We thought the hotel decor was "tired", & the en-suite very small & cramped. Do like having bar/restaurant on site if not wanting to drive. Good location - & "must visits" if not a "twitcher" are the Butterfly House closeby and the steam railway -an hour long trip with fantastic views leaves from Devils Bridge or Aberystwyth, both nearby.     From our room (no.4)at the back, was a fantastic view - we could hear the waterfall, see the red kites & look out across the garden. We had evening meals there on the first & third nights of our stay - varied menu, well cooked & not expensive. Good breakfasts too. Clean room, en-suite, towels etc (inc. comp toiletries) & sufficient tea/coffee supplies. Couldnt hear much noise from other rooms - walls must be fairly thick - bonus for a light sleeper!

    Creaking floorboards in room very annoying (& room 5 next door), Saniflow loos - noisy,(but we only heard ours and vaguely room 5) no shaver point - men, take note - stale cooking smells (?) in hallway, no airflow, probably with both fire doors being closed? Cold shower one morning - no hot water left(?) (at 8.30, so get in early)?! Not brrrilliant! The dead flower arrangements on the dining room tables - and dead pot plants inside & out...get rid & replace - please!

    I booked three rooms for three nights at the George Borrow as part of a family holiday in August. This is a friendly family-owned hotel set in the beautiful surroundings of the mid-Wales mountains. This is a good location for visits to the nearby hydroelectric power station, the butterfly house, red kites and the silver lead mine. Breakfast and evening meals were of a good standard.

    The bedrooms were rather small, particularly the double room.

    Very nice hotel. Very friendly and most helpful. Good location for what we needed. Food and service excellent.

    En-suite was minute, but manageable. Other than that no hotel-related problems. Big problem was lack of any mobile signal which meant that we had to drive up the road to use phones.

    Very friendly staff,beautiful scenery, excellent evening meal and breakfast.

    We entered through the small bar. This did not do credit to the rest of the hotel. once beyond this area, the rest was excellent.

    "We needed a room for 1 night and glad we chose this hotel, only 15 mins from coast, very good priced food and friendly pub. Views from rooms was great." (107680655)

    Great location with great views, easy to find, very friendly staff and a pub and seperate eating area on site.

    No mobile phone signals in area and payphone was out of order but there was a phone in your room for you to use at cost.

    Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Location of hotel was beautiful. Although on the main A44 traffic noise was minimal

    Room was in the attic space and very small. In need of updating. Food was adequate although breakfasts were excellent

    Location and friendliness was good.

    Room was fair - bed very uncomfortable and lack of plugs for kettle/hairdryer. Not too much of a problemm though.

    "This is a comfortable well located hotel, that would suit walkers and people touring by car. " (107262287)

    Friendly staff, nothing to much trouble.Good food in restaurant (we tried the Lamb, Steak,and Fish and it was all good, as was the deserts) . Rooms recently decorated and comfortable Good views from rear of hotel with waterfall at bottom of garden. Convenient for Aberystweth and other tourist attractions.

    "All we needed was a bed and a good breakfast and that we got. Had we been staying longer and spending more time in the immediate environs, then somewhere a little more appealing with some ambience would be essential. Luxury is not important to us but atmosphere is." (107292304)

    A beautiful situation with a magnificient view from our room. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast very good. The members of staff were cheerful and helpful.

    The immediate impact upon arrival is of a place that is caught in a time-warp and desperately in need of some renovation.

    The George Borrow Hotel,set in an idyllic location close to Plynlimon, adequately provided comfortable accommodation for me for the two nights I was in the area.The staff were wonderful,and made my stay a pleasant one. My main reason for the visit was to climb Plynlimon,and to that end the staff offered me a packed lunch,and very kindly drove me to my starting point,to allow me a circular walk back to the hotel. I thought those gestures were tremendous.The evening meal selection was varied and of good standard whilst being well presented and good value for money. I would definately use the George Borrow Hotel again.

    The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. After 2 nights the hotel admitted their room allocation error and we were given a wonderful room on the first floor with excellent views.

    We booked for 4 nights but on arrival they only had us booked in for 2. We were initially given a room on the second floor which, although clean, had a sloping roof which I kept banging my head on, (I am only 5ft 4ins). The 1980's dark burgundy bathroom suite had no shower.

    Very welcoming and friendly. Excellent evening meal, with quality and value. Pretty location and good atmosphere.

    Advertised as having been refurbished, but some rooms still requiring decoration. Unfortunately we were allocated very 'tired' looking rooms which was rather disappointing.

    "We stayed at this Hotel (for one night) on our journey out and then four days later (for one night) on our return. The Hotel was reasonable for a one night stay in each direction." (97464154)

    Relaxed and friendly owners and staff who were happy to assist when needed. Beds were very comfortable. The food was good and reasonably priced. The situation of the Hotel and views from the rear were excellent.

    The WC, hand basin and and shower cubicle were in a very small enclosed space with little room to manoeuvre. The floorboards were very noisy and need attention.

    A fantastic place to stay. The view from our rear bedroom was amazing. There is a resident Old English Sheepdog - beautiful & placid animal who acts as though it is the proprietor. Good value meals at the bar. Good breakfast. Very friendly staff.

    "The hotel was further away from Aberystwyth than the website had led me to believe, as the purpose of my stay was for an Open Day at the University. The website said that the hotel was just 6 miles from Aberystwyth, it was more like 12, and having travelled by train, I had t o pay for an expensive taxi ride to the hotel, as by that time the buses to the area had stopped running. I would like to make clear that I had no issue with the hotel, just being mislead by this website. The hotel is fine if you are travelling by car, and the countryside around Ponterwyd is beautiful."     "Good position for all local attractions and walking. Would be an excellent place to stay for mountain bikers to use Nant yr Arian centre trails and you can watch the Red Kites being fed.The walking there is also excellent. Bedrooms redecorated nicely and bedding and towels were good. The en-suite was adequate but needs up dating. We could eat in the bar or dining room and the prices were very reasonable and food fresh cooked with local specialities. A nice laid back attitude. The sign said they hoped you would leave as a friend, and we certainly felt like that after 2 days." (97056457)

    Very friendly with telescope and binoculars available to view Red Kites. Lovely Old English Sheepdog as resident pet Room comfortable and food good.

    "The hotel is very close to Nant y Mach reservoir and Plumlumon, and various walks associated with this area. It is conveniently situated on the A44 and is easy to find. From the hotel it is possible to reach Aberystwyth in very little time and from there to other towns on the coast." (97280875)

    "nice situation,fantastic views and very popular with the 'twitchers',also handy for Devils Bridge another popular location nearby.Also found it peaceful as it is practically impossible to communicate with anyone by mobile as there appears to be no network coverage(which also means you dont get hassled of course)this may not suit everyone though and perhaps should be in the hotel description.Probably didnt stay long enough for more opinions but would re-visit(if allowed!)"     "Only staying one night and spending the evening in Aberystwyth I didn't spend much time in the hotel. However, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, including a beautiful ols English sheepdog. The breakfast was an excellebt start to the day, freshly cooked to perfection.     Very comfortable room, being upgraded to a double for the cost of a single was a bonus I wasn't expecting.

    "The accommodation was fair and very clean but let down by the poor state of the carpet on the stairs, the poor quality of the curtains in the bedroom and please get rid of that carpet in the bathroom. The pub was very friendly and warm and the food was adequate." (97320715)
