The staff were excellent - friendly and professional. The food was exquisite. The view - spectacular. We had a fabulous stay and will definitely come again.
The shared bathroom is rather basic. A shower facility would improve matters enormously.

The hotel is in an excellent and picturesque position. The breakfasts were as good as any we have had anywhere.
The hotel was undergoing refurbishment so there was no evening meal available and there was no television in the room

Lovely views from all rooms. Very good food in the restaurant and excellent service.
No parking for my disabled husband, perhaps because of builders' vehicles. It was unfortunate that extensive internal building works were underway during our visit. It would have been good to have had a television in the room, but perhaps this was not possible because of the location and problems with reception.

new room, very good food, very friendly staff, superb location,
booked room not available, new bath lacked a few ideas (shower tidy, ugly corner behind the wash basin), breakfast took extremely long one morning. Can not understand why they are using a booking agency and do not rovide a direct booking machine like most other hotels do.

wonderful location far from the busy tourist part of lake disctrict easy to spot lots of red squirrels
far from other restaurant, the restaurant of the hotel is very expensive (24£ foe 2 corses) and not particularry good. The shared bathroom does not contain soap or towel and does not have shower, only old (but big) baths. The bedroom was noisy dring the night

"This hotel is a real find. Well away from the over commercialised Lakes, you really do feel in the middle of nowhere. There are no mod cons in the hotel at the moment which for us was perfect. All the guests sat around a roaring fire chatting into the wee hours of the morning. Felt just like being in somoenes living room. Thank you Haweswater we really enjoyed our stay." (107513188)
One of the friendliest hotels I have ever stayed in.
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment at the moment. The rooms that have been done are lovely and are setting a high standard for the future. The rooms that haven't been refurbished yet are in desperate need of attention, but please no TV's.

Lovely location, nice building with friendly and helpful staff who made us feel at home immediately, Evening meal was great and breakfast was superb with a great choice of extras.
Sadly the room was not great, carpet moving away from wall, wardrobes etc of poor standard, tea making facilities required an extension cable instead of dedicated plug

room to warm no ventilation opening doors not accetable,bathroom old and dirty plugs etc, shower room would have been nice, sound insolation putting in bedrooms, bad smell upstairs on landing and rooms, due to size of upstairs corridor ensuites could be added,hard beds.

Lovely staff, fantastic setting. clean and comfortable.
Needs updating but cost ofset that. no shower in the shared bathrooms- that i feel is a must for any hotel esp. after a wet day walking (i am aware they are updating the hotel in the next few years.) and i believe there are showers in the ensuite

Great Location just off the C2C Walk, and that the Hotel still has many original features, Excellant Food, And no TV in room.

I was Wanting A quiet hotel for A weekend break and I was not dissapointed The hotel was lovely the staff superb very friendly the food was good we wnt for easter but thought it was Christmas when we woke Sunday we had 2 foot of snow would recomend this hotel foe anyone wanting a a break away from it all

"it's a beautiful hotel on the lake and its ideal for those people who really want to get away from it all as there are no other pubs, restaurants or shops nearby. however the food and drink at the hotel was so fantastic that we wouldn't have wanted to go out anyway !" (97103190)
beautiful hotel, amazing location, views over the lake from our four poster room were spectacular. Staff were fantastic, warm and couldn't do enough for us ..... Plus Harley the cat was so cute !

The accomodation was superb with fantastic views of the lake. We had the apartment which was huge & very comfortable. It was nice not having a TV or anything to distract from the peace & quiet.

Service was unbeatable and food was very good
Room looks a bit tired, mattresses could do with renewing but when mentioned to staff mattress topper was added without any delay

Quiet and out of the way. Which is exactly what we wanted.
No mobile phone reception, Which is o.k, But the hotel rooms also had no phones. So contacting the children required a five mile trip to get a usable signal.

"If you are wedded to your mobile phone or want to spend the day watching the TV or popping round the corner for a Big Mac then try somewhere else. This place was built in the 1930's and retains all of the charm and tranquility of that period. Fantastic views, excellent food ,comfy warm beds and friendly staff - what more do you want! Ideal for walkers, birdwatchers, or if you just want to generally relax and unwind away from kids, dogs, speedboats, ice cream vans, musak etc, which unfortunately cannot be said for a lot of the Lake District. The plumbing clonks a bit, there is no upvc double glazing and the place is definitely quite quirky, but this only adds to its charm. In these days of politically correct blandness it is nice to find somewhere a bit different. This place is not for everybody, and I for one hope it stays that way!" (99653646)
No tv, radio, mobile phones, smoking or young children.
Would be nice to have sone real ale behind the bar!

"This hotel commands a most exquisite site and the food is first class and it should be well patronised and this is particularly so in July. The staff appeared to act as messengers between guests and management who were conspicuous by their absence resulting in quests not being made welcome or so it appeared. All I am saying is that guests could be made much more welcome and the hotel could do very much better." (97956856)
Excellent view. Excellent food. The Staff were cheerful and helpful. Very comfortable bed.
Lack of shelves in the bathroom. A full lenght mirror would have been appreciated One small cake of soap for 2 pax over four nights.

"I know the area as some of my recent ancestors came from Shap and I visited the hotel as a non resident, but this was my first overnight stay. I liked the hotel and its ambience. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food excellent. My wife and and I enjoyed the solitude and peacefullness. IIt6 would have been a good base for touring but we were in transit to Scotland. We would definitely stay again. The only mild criticism was that the decor was a bit tired but it did give the hotel atmosphere." (97656315)

The location, tranquility and position of the hotel is wonderful. The food and service from the staff was excellent.
Being isolated the roads to the hotel are very narrow - but thats rural Lake District.

The food was good, the bed was comfortable, and the two polish girls who were on reception and waitedat breakfast and the evening meal were charming and efficient.
The fan in the bathroom was not working, and not fixed when reported. No explanation for this was given.

"An excellent hotel, run very efficiently by courteous staff. Very remote, in a beautiful part of the country, with not another building in sight.
My room was over the bar, which was a bit noisy, but guests all retired by 11pm so it wasn't too bad.

Very good location on Haweswater. Food in the restaurant was evry good.
Water was not always hot, taps spluttered due to air in them on occasions. Bedroom decoration needed to be updated. Bathroom radiator seemed to have an air lock in it.

Excellent welcome,Very well run.Obviously a happy staff who enjoy there job.Food was excellent provided by an excellent chef.
Having to walk across the landing and was disappointed there was no shower in this bathroom.

"Quiet with no distractions - No television and no mobile phone signal!! Well off the beaten track. Bliss. The evening menu changed each day, good quality, well presented food and although not a huge choice, something to suit most tastes. My only criticism being the slightly 'rushed' feel to the evening meal with places cleared quickly and only a short interval between courses." (99907984)

"The hotel is fantastic at the moment but I'm not convinced the refurbishment will be for the good of the hotel. Its remote location attracts nature lovers and walkers alike but the refurbishment is aimed at higher prices and less facilities for walkers ie no drying facilities in hotel or in the rooms." Nice remote beautiful quiet location, friendly staff, ideal for walking and enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryide. The restuarant was fabulous but a bit expensive.
The price shown on the internet and on our booking confirmation was incorrect it should have been higher for a bank holiday weekend but after a couple of conversations this was finally sorted.
