    Surrounding of the Guest House, connections to the city centre, received useful information by the guest house staff.

    the quality of the bed is terrible: you can feel every single spring of the matress.

    Dachgeschoss-Zimmer 6 zu niedrige Deckenhöhe, Sitzmöglichkeit auf dem WC sehr eingeschränkt und nur schräg möglich. Mit 100 Pfund pro Nacht zu teuer.

    Lovely house, not too far from Edinburgh. Lady owner pleasant and attentive at breakfast.

    Small bedroom, carpets required cleaning, and decoration of room was tatty. Separate bathroom was cramped, and plumbing noisy. Breakfast was adequate, ingredients poor quality

    It was quiet most of the time, nice staff.

    It was a little too small.. my boyfriend is very tall and did not fit in the shower. Breakfast was only 45 min.

    Lack of free car parking. Small room and bed, no table to do writing, very small bathroom with no place to place own things.

    Very clean and friendly. Good standard of the room. Quiet area.

    There was no blackout curtain which made us wake up very early in the morning. The toilet cistern started dripping at 5 a.m.

    "The guest house was in a quite and friendly area of Edinburgh,(5-10 mins bus ride) the room we stayed in (room 2) was quite small with separate bathroom, decor bit dated, fair choice for breakfast, the owners were friendly and helpful - they gave us a card with what bus's to catch to city and back again, were to eat etc.No good for people with mobility problems as you had to go upstairs for breakfast."     It was very clean and had everything that we needed.

    It was too near the kitchen, could smell the cooking, and too far away from the bathroom, and shower wasn't ideal.

    "I would recommend this guest house to anyone. It's located in a pleasant neighborhood, and it took us about 15-20 minutes to walk to the city centre / Edinburgh Castle. It is also close to a bus stop (if one prefers such transportation), and the bus goes to Princes Street in Old Town where all the action is. The bus service in Edinburgh is fantastic and inexpensive. The accomodation at Mardale was clean, and the bedroom was nicely decorated. Breakfast was delicious (and complementary). Terrific place!" (99604454)

    The shower and toilet were not ensuite -- however, this is to be expected of a guest house. The facilities were near the bedroom too, so it really wasn't a problem.

    "I really had a problem finding parking space for my car. I felt this could have been hightlighted in the website. The problem can only get worse in March as parking permits will be needed for all cars in the locality of this particular guest house. I think the use of public transport should be emphasised more as there is a good bus service within a two minute walk from the guest house." (99452096)

    "The Mardale Guest House is a tremendous value for the money. The room was the largest I experienced in my 13 nights of hotels on this trip. Big fluffy towels! Breakfast was great - what I think of as full English breakfast. There was convenient public transportation, but I ended up walking most of the time because Edinburgh is so compact." (3305100802)

    Large sunny room; very clean. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Very quiet neighborhood, yet close to what I wanted to see.

    "It's ideally situated so that a variety of areas are all within easy walking distance or on a good bus route if further out. Bus time tables would have made getting around easier. Being diabetic it might have been nice to have plain yoghurt/sugar-free jams available at breakfast or perhaps porridge(I may be mistaken but I think they did offer this on a previous visit). However I did not mention this on arrival so the fault may have been my own. For a meal out you cannot beat Viva Mexico on Cockburn Street. For tea/coffee/cakes/snacks etc try The Elephant House on George iv Bridge. For some reason I could not find anywhere that sold scones of any kind or toasted tea-cakes." (3305275495)

    It's in my favourite city - Edinburgh. The breakfast is basic but one of the best cooked I have ever had. The rooms are not huge but very well decorated, warm, clean and a welcome haven at the end of a hard days sightseeing. The proprietors get the balance just right between leaving you to your own devices and being available to offer advice/directions/suggestions/friendly banter. I would stay here anytime.

    Quiet location, but well served by nearby public transport routes into the city. Also within walking distance if you preferred.

    Room was a little bit on the small side, mainly due to sloping ceiling, but adequate for our needs and reasonably priced.
