    The problem was that the hotel had not registered the internet booking and my visit came as a total surprise for them. I would like to receive an explanation from the web site how this could be possible. Best regards Svein Grønnern

    Good location with adequate free on-street parking. Nice breakfast.

    "I am not a person to get on the internet and put up a bad review of a hotel, nor am i a fussy customer, but this hotel needs serious changes if it wants it's customers to return back again. Mean't to be known as Southends finest hotel.....Personnally, i would never return to this hotel unless it were absolutely necessary. Don't listen to what people say about house hotels. I had a better nights stay in the Ilfracombe House Hotel in Southend!" (108985362)

    A fantastic breakfast!!! Allowed to check in an hour earlier Staff spoke pleasant to customers

    T.V. didn't work properly nor did it get all the channels Dirty sticky carpet and floor Shower didn't work properly Not good lighting in the bedroom Smelt dreadful Bath towels had dirt marks on them and smelt like they had used a very cheap soap powder or not been washed from previous users Bed sheets and pillow cases stunk

    "Would have expected a better room, bathroom needed a good clean, but staff very nice considering that on Friday night only two couples in restaurant and one couple walked out and we were the other and food was very bad." (108642360)

    Generally staff very helpful.

    Lift to small, chef should be sacked, everthing tasted of bolognese sauce and pre theatre menu not clear enough, not explained that two courses meant starter and main course and we did not get a glass of wine, restaurant not free until 6.45.

    Room was freshly refurbished.

    Corrodor smelled of excrements! There was scaffolding outside the bedroom window and work commenced at 8am with builders being able to look straight into the room. TV had poor signal.

    Very clean, nice room, lovely staff and good food.

    At about 2 o'clock in the morning we were woken up by a party going on in the next room (really thin walls). Somebody must have called the police and we could hear that drugs were involved, and they were all escorted from the room. Eventually back to sleep about 3!! When we checked out we were going to complain but we were informed the check out girl was having a fag break! By the time she got back I had given up the will to live!

    The views from the Breakfast room overlooking the cliffside gardens were great and the Hotel was in a quiet area. The bed-linen was clean and the beds were comfortable.

    The room (207) was shoddy with frayed carpets, and old bathroom suite and scarred walls. The windows were caked in pigeon droppings and we were unable to open the windows wide (on the hottest night of the year) for fear of pigeons flying in. I had to get up and shoo them off the windowsill at 0500 hrs. Not the best preparation for a half marathon race. Our room was at the back of the hotel and the noise from the air conditioning unit or somesuch machinery would wake us up every 45 minutes or so. Away form the dining area and bar the hotel was generally in a state of direpair and in need of extensive decoration.

    sea veiw was excellent

    when we went to the dining room we stood there for 15 mins not knowing what to do and eventually another guest told us. members of staff ignored us.also plates on our first day were cold as no one had bothered to turn on the hot plate

    Very friendly staff, great position overlooking the Thames estuary, nice relaxed atmosphere. The hotel bar is very nice as is the restaurant and the seating areas on the ground floor. The food and drink was of good quality too and I really enjoyed the buffet breakfasts. Plus a very comfortable bed!!

    Generally, the accomodation in the hotel could do with a makeover. The room itself, though perfectly O.K. was a bit old fashioned, the corridors are a bit like a rabbit warren. The one lift in the hotel is very slow and small and would have been out-dated in the 1960s!! ( Come to think of it maybe the lift should have a preservation order put on it and be regarded as a unique feature of the hotel, which would make it a good point!! :) )

    The hotel room was in good order with modern furnishings.

    The hotel itself is very dated and tired with uneven and squeeky floor boards. The tv in the room only received BBC1, BBC2 and some sky channels. When I went for breakfast there were no staff in the dining room to seat me, so I sat in the window area with a view of the sea. When a member of staff appeared the first thing she said was that I was in the wrong place. The breakfast itself was under a hot plate but was actually cold.

    "Overall very disappointed. I usually stay in a Premier Inn because I can be assured of a good standard of comfort, cleanliness and service. The rooms are three times the size of the one at Westcliff and cheaper. I have stayed in many hotels in Southend and if you don't realise you are offering poorer quality accommodation than the so called budget hotels your businesses will be gone. I suggest you book in for a night at the Thorpe Bay Premier Inn and see what your competitors are up to." (107537654)

    Difficulty finding and parking. Very small room and tiny bathroom. Uncomfortable bed. Cold room, window was open and blowing a gale, took a good hour to heat up as radiator was off. Huge kettle for a single bedroom, difficult to get under the tap to fill. Tiny bathroom cramped toilet. Poor TV channels incorrect and poor selection. Do staff ever try staying in the rooms to see if they are ergonomically correct. Didn't try restuarant not very inviting when on your own. Publicised a full English breakfast included in the price - I didn't really want one but couldn't see any alternative. Would have liked fresh fruit, muesli or porridge, staff assumed I had been before. Very little communication with staff and just a 'thanks' on leaving when I dropped off the key.

    Quintesntially English - Very different from the chain hotes and a fantastic breakfast. Westcliff had a character of its oun - friendly and warming. Well decorated retaining the Victorian charm.

    "This was my first stay at this hotel, on business, and I was looking for a hotel that I can stay in on a regular basis due to a new working contract. I am pleased to say that apart from the small niggles, I will not be looking for another, as this hotel is good value, the staff friendly and welcoming, the food excellent." (107268124)

    Pleasant staff, clean, excellent food.

    No tea / coffee making facility in room. Bar unattended on 2 occasions. noisy floorboards! doors banging from other guests. (fit stoppers!) car parking difficult, but this applies to all the hotels on this stretch of road, blame the council for not providing adequate parking!

I may come back with the family, as the hotel itself was lovely, the staff were very attentive & friendly and I saw several families staying with small children.     Attentive staff, great location, nice views. Good value for money. Booking website was fast, uncluttered & simple to use.

    Tiny room. No free internet access. Poor TV reception and choice of TV channels. Lift was out of order.

    Lack of parking. Hotel appeared to be understaffed. As guests we had to seek staff in the restaurant, the bar and the lounge. The front desk were helpful in locating waiters, etc. but we still had lengthy delays in service.

    "We picked this hotel as it has an elevator, normally we would have gone to a B&B. I would have expected a bit more for the money though..................but, it was OK for one night." (108018271)

    Everything was fairly good, room comfortable and adequate facilities. Staff were very happy to help, especially with helping my elderly mother access the hotel (she cannot get up the front steps at the main entrance.

    My mother found a plate of rotting food in one of the drawers! Breakfast is a buffet breakfast, but as will all food kept warm for long periods there are rubbery eggs, rock hard hash browns, and not very hot - otherwise OK. Would have preferred a freshly cooked breakfast (especially when hotel wass not that busy at the time). Had to ask the waitress to turn down the music as it was drowning out our conversation and my mother is hard of hearing. Anyway , who needs it at 8am .....
