    Friendly and efficient staff, decor very grown up but hotel atmosphere relaxed. Food excellent also. Jacuzzi in room which was a nice surprise!

    "We took the option of a champagne DBB stay and this was certainly worth the money. The hotel surroundings was very good, food excellent and an overall excellent experience. Our room was upgraded for free to the superior room and it certainly did not disappoint. Would certainly stay here again. This was our second stay and we do prefer the new part of the hotel."     Excellent hotel, well situated. High standards of cleanliness, and a warm welcome.

    Heating on in public areas - outside temperature being 23c+! Inappropriate background music in bar area(a classical radio programme) and a continuous repeat song by James Taylor in restaurant. Restaurant and bar staff seemed rather disorganised with no one person seeming to be in charge

    Pleasant, helpful and courteous staff. Quiet and picturesque surroundings conducive to a relaxing time. The first course at dinner was very good. There was a good variety at breakfast that would suit every taste.

    Bacon at breakfast was tough and Bass at dinner was not fresh!

    Accomodation was beautiful. Very good value for money. Food was very reasonable.

    Excellent location and good food along with a very good business rate made the stay at this hotel quite enjoyable.

    The hotel appears to be going through some form of rejuvination and my room was one of those in need of some TLC. It's all well and good having fancy bathrooms but it's still nice to have some form of shower curtain/screen to prevent the whole of the bathroom floor becoming a swimming pool!! Listening to other residents, that were regulars at the hotel, they had various niggles such as broken coffee making machine over several nights stay and whilst I was there, a broken deep fat frier that removed chips and roast potatoes from the evening menu.

    Room musty, faded decoration; my room at rear of hotel had double glazing that didn't stay in place, so noise from M5 unavoidable.

    The Hotel was perfect. We had a lovely weekend. One member of staff Saturday evening 30th August was extremely polite letting us know that once we had said thank you she said "you are welcome". The only other time we heard this was in the USA. We love these words.

    The weather, but of course that has nothing to do with the hotel.

    Friendly, professional staff. Pleasant gardens. Nice bathroom.

    Room was smaller than expected, directly overlooking the back kitchen entrance & bins which was not pleasant. When windows were opened the cigarette smoke from staff smoking out the back came in throught the windows. The full english breakfast could have been of a higher standard.

    Good location & tranquil surroundings, friendly staff. We also had a lovely evening meal on the Friday evening but check below in the summary of bad points for further comments.

    At 7pm we asked about turning on the heating because our room was not warm enough & the receptionist said that she would look into this for us. However we had to go down to reception again at 10pm and we showed the porter that the bed had not been made up correctly and we also mentioned the heating situation again because nothing had been done. He then remade the bed and eventually brought an electric fan heater as this was the only one he could find. This was at 10.30pm We were very disappointed because the rooms had not been warm enough for us to have a bath that evening. This was more disappointing because it was a celebration of our 39th wedding anniversary. We had put that on the booking form on the net. I did speak to the general manager during the next day and he did apologise and he said that he would find out why the bed was made up incorrectly. It was all the more upsetting because the week-end was a special occasion for us. There was no shower curtain and the mechanical ventilator did not work. E-mail sent separately to the general manager with further comments.

    general manager quick to apologise for state of room and organised some staff to clean bathroom and empty bins. receptionist very pleasant.

    bins in bedroom full of rubbish, bathroom dirty, bar dirty, display cabinets in bar area full of dust. curtains ripped and in poor condition, service in bar very slow, had to wait 10 mins until receptionist could find a bar person, then a further 10 mins whilst bar person re-stocked bar. general appearance of hotel was dirty and not very pleasant

    no towels/bathmat/iron/ in executive room. asked a member of staff but only supplied with 3 bathtowel. web site states robes should have been available as well.jaccuzzi was missing a nozzle, water spouted all over bathroom.

    hotel was clean, well presented and excellent service, good selection and exceelent quality of food

    13th-16th June 2008. Sunday and Monday breakfast staff were very good. Reception staff on Saturday and bar staff on Sunday night also extremely helpful. Excellent views and location and atmosphere.

    Parking on Saturday night very limited due to wedding party.

    "The hotel looks very nice, however we had arranged an early checkin from 11 am, we turned up at 12 and our room was not available. We waited 45 mins before we could get into our room and leave our belongings, prior to our day out at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff. The chap on reception couldn't seem to care less about the room being unavailable. Our room was not clean, dirty plughole, cobwebs on ceiling and dirty handprints on door to toilet. Breakfast was not hot either, although the plate was ! I have never complained before about a hotel, I simply am not a complainer, however I shall be writing with regard to this occasion. I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family." (97879492)

    The room was spacious and bed comfortable, the jacuzzi bath was fun! Views from the hotel are stunning, ok inside but the motorway sound was obvious outside the building.

    The coffee was always lukewarm.

    "Very poor. The room was not up to standard, firstly the bed was described as being a large double or king size and when we got there it was two single beds put together!? When we complained at reception about this, her attitude was we have no other rooms and that was that so I was not satisfied with the helpfulness of the staff. Also the cups in the room were still dirty from the last users - still having staines of hot chocolate. I was on a whole very dispapointed with the hotel. The view from our room which we were expecting as described on the website was not at all the same as reality - a wall!" (97542782)

    The relaxed country house feel of the rooms,bars etc. Decor was very much in keeping with overall period/setting Also car parking was very good

    Nothing really-1 light bulb in bedroom not working but that was it!

    "In general -- the stay was good apart from the little things that could so easily be put right .Good location , nice approach to the hotel . Stayed there 2 years ago and the same things where there then . Unless things seen to improve , will look for another hotel in the area next time .     The location up on the hill overlooking Gloucester is lovely . Ideally situated for an over night stop traveling back from Cornwall .

    The hotel is starting to look shabby and in need of a good overhaul ( paper peeling of the wall in the corridor to the restaurant , etc ), general decor needs sprucing up . Stayed in room 37 -- Blind fell down in the bathroom-- Only propped up , The corner bath ( nice ) was badly scratched and looked dirty, shower straight into the bath, water everywhere as no curtain or screen fitted. Television reception terrible-- only 5 channels-- With the cheap price of freeview nowadays could at least up grade to that !The breakfast was mainly not very hot and had to ask for fresh eggs as the ones that where there looked as if they had been sitting around for ages and had dried up . Better warming / heating trays needed .

    Nice location/setting and close to where I was working. The hotel has much more character compared with some of the big-brand names. Good food in the restaurant.

    Poor TV reception. Gym equipment didn't work.
