    Quiet rural location but close to Tavistock. comfortable beds, good sized rooms

    Kettle provided but no water. Breakfast choices adequate but unexciting. Showers a bit temperamental

    "Intended to stop for two nights but due to circumstance only stopped the one. Not a very good first impression when i arrived late at night, but overall the hotel was clean and comfortable." (108954317)

    Room had a good bathroom.

    Hard to find, espescially at 11pm in pitch black. Car park was not lit and was away from the hotel....not ideal when arriving in the rain at night.

    Homely and welcoming.

    Absolutely appalling life-expired mattress on the bed. Hard and lumpy. A bit too far out of town.

    Nice setting. Quiet. Clean rooms with plenty of space. Tea, coffee and biscuits in rooms. Comfortable bed.

    A CHARMING HOTEL IN A LOVELY LOCATION .

    THE HOTEL SHOULD BE SIGNED UP FROM THE MAIN ROAD SINCE WITHOUT A SATNAV I WOULD HAVE FOUND DIFFICULTY IN LOCATING IT . A LOCAL ROAD ROUTE PLAN WOULD HELP FOR THOSE GUESTS WITHOUT A SATNAV .

    The hotel was very peaceful and commanded excellent views of the Devon countryside - The Chipshop inn/restaurant is only 5 mins walk away and it is downhill all the way back home which is ideal after a night at the pub.

    We had a room with a private garden and four poster bed - The garden was unkempt and the 4 poster bed would have been better presented if it had a canopy - but in fairness to the management they are renovating a derilect building and it is still a work in progress in some of the more peripheral areas - the main hotel is well presented.

    "A very run down shabby hotel with an overgrown rat infested garden due to the brambles and weeds etc. Whist we were there the owner did cut the lawn in front of the hotel and the main garden. In a very busy restaurant one polish waitress had to manage by herself whilst the owners sat drinking1 This waitress was most unhappy." (108047386)

    The owners were very friendly and the room we were eventually moved to was very clean and well furnished.We ate in the restaurant carvery and that was excellent.

    No one to greet us when we arrived exterior of hotel very very shabby. We had booked the garden room with 4 poster bed, we were led across some very overgrown gardens to it and opening the door it felt very damp and musty the whole room needed refurbishment! on opening the door onto our so called patio(overgrown with brambles etc) to our horror the bigest RAT you have ever seen ,ran in our room. I contacted the owners who moved us to another room(which was nicely furnished and clean) There was no apology or further mention of this incident during our stay. The bar and reception floor was made of parquet and was loose and dangerous with bits missing. The hotel has been left to fall into disrepair and the garden room is a disgrace for the money charged.

    "Felt they were indifferent to us and it did`nt improve.They only contacted me when they realised i had omitted to pay as i thought i`d paid on the internet and as they were not at reception when we left i presumed wrongly we had paid. " (99606162)

    nice countryside, comfortable bed.

    nobody to greet you, or to take your key when you leave. Room could not be locked properly,door kept opening even when locked. Service poor, grounds overgrown,no lights outside at night on one night.Nobody at any time asked if everything was ok.You could hear everything going on in surrounding rooms.

    Very courteous and welcoming, especially in view of our late arrival. Exceptional standard for a very reasonable cost. Nice facilities in the rooms and very good breakfast.

    Just one small point, overflow carpark was very dark. Not a problem providing you have a torch so perhaps just worth mentioning to those planning to arrive late? My own fault in this instance and certainly wouldn't stop me recommending the hotel to others.

    "This hotel is in a lovely quiet rural location. I feel that the bedrooms probably could do with an update and my room in particular had a very smelly bathroom (with carpet!). However, breakfast was superb the next morning, and although its sometime difficult to find staff to check in or out - it was done courteously and in a friendly way. For the price, I would definately stay here again" (99834498)

    "The room was clean and comfortable, but could do with some refurbishment. More attention should be paid to the exterior of the hotel, anyone passing probably wouldn't even know it was a hotel / restaurant due to poor signage. We would have driven past it if our satnav hadn't announced our arrival at our destination." (97144365)

    Very quiet. Breakfasts were very good.

    General appearance of exterior of hotel was a bit shabby - garden needed some work.

    The setting/views. Beautiful.

    No real dislikes but the hotel needs a bit of updating. It's a bit tired.

    Spacious & warm

    Shower cubicle lacks a soap holder/dish. Very awkward. Only a small point but would make such a difference.

    Lovely Setting Pretty Building Peaceful

    Very thin walls so very noisy at night time (in garden room). Had difficulty getting to sleep as could hear the entire conversation from upstairs. Foreign staff who spoke very little English

    one room had no view except a slate tiled roof which was a great shame as although the hotel is remote the area is absolutely beautiful
