    "if we had just a slightly beter appointed room and not been disturbed by the party we would have given the hotel a far better review, we would stay at the hotel again but only with a better room away from the function rooms. with a better room...good value for money. " (108369484)

    polite competant staff, nice room to have breakfast in, good breakfast selection, just don't get there too late as the food is cooked put out and (it seemed to us) left out unless it needs replacing so what your eating might not be as fresh as you might like !!!

    the bay window ceilng leaked when it rained (but it was storm conditions) the bathroom vas very outdated, white formica top, way too large and horrid flourecent lighting above mirror, chipped broken and replaced with non matching tiles on bathroom walls, loose towel shelving, the usual loose-wobbly shower bar and shower head holder, chipped bath where the shower head had falen into it. when we went to bed at 11:30 we could hear every tune being played by the wedding reception DJ...Madness and Baggy trousers followed by Lady Ga GA and pokerface.. I could go on but!!! complained about it that night and in the morning asked them why they would put a guest in a room so near the wedding reception party when they "had plenty of room" at the point of booking...they agreed they had made a mistake and recieved a 50% reduction.

    reception businesslike but unsmiling male personnel. parking very chaotic and probably would not convince me to return for longer than one night.

    "Personnel attention good. The Victorian style common areas, the English breakfast and the nice restaurants where its served were very good. My only complain was the tiny simple room where I was looked more as a cheap B&B hotel than a 68 pounds room one. Very poor value for money. " (108591174)

    The hotel was clean and nice

    The view from the room was not good, but we hadnot booked a seaview room.

    "We made the most of our stay and overall enjoyed it. But would not stay in the room we had which was 404." (108952563)

    Comfortable bed, plenty of hanging space, tea and coffe making facilities, plenty of tea and coffee supplies. plenty of hot water. Food in the bar was excellent. We had three lovely meals and the bar staff were very friendly and obliging. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Service of tea coffee and toast was very quick on being shown to our seats

    Bad lighting in the room. No mirror suitable for applying make-up! Hairdryer fell to bits and I couldn't repair ot. The handle got extremey hot. Had to be shown to an empty room to use the hairdryer. It would help if reception kept a couple of ordinary hairdryers for when the hairdryers supplied break down. It was very inconvenient to have to go to another room. Our bathroom had a sloping roof and it was very awkward to use the shower without either banging one's head or hurting one's back. Not a very pleasant experience. The ift was very slow. On one occasion it broke down. No notice was put on the lift door. With the result that we waited even longer before finding the stairs which again weren't indicated. The lift was not a smooth ride as it juddered when it stopped. Again not a very pleasant experience. Thought the restaurant menu was a bit pricey.

    We were allocated smoking rooms - we'd assumed you just didn't get these anymore. Even clean towels etc take on a smoky smell after a few hours.

    Breakfasts are excellent

    One lift was not working and the other had a faulty call button making it very difficult to call the lift - essential as we were on a high floor.

    "Enjoyed our Stay, Did'nt take my credit card with me as I thought I had booked and paid for my room. Turned out that my card had only been a guarantee! so it was a good job that I had enough cash on me to pay for my stay!!! not much going on in the area around the hotel, was so busy in the hotel that we decided to go over onto the pier for a drink, Guess what! wedding reception! so got turned away! ended up getting a cab to gun wharf to get something to eat, Smashing Hotel!!     Stayed at a weekend, THREE wedding receptions & A PARTY on Saturday night. Were goint to eat in the hotel, But impossible, Too busy!! coast bar advertised on the website had a private function for both nights of our stay!! so never got to see that!!

    Attractive, old-fashioned decor; spacious dining room; friendly, very helpful service from all staff. I was pleased that the receptionist offered me help carrying my luggage when I arrived.

    Hot water took a while to heat up on my first morning - however, the shower was warm enough for me and the water was hotter on day two.

    Breakfast food was lovely, nicely cooked and not greasy. Also manageress on duty was most helpful, she did everything to make our stay more enjoyable.

    Staff on booking in were not very helpful, given a smoking room when distinctly told them non smoking, changed to a non smoking room, but that was very dark as the outlook was onto another part of the hotel very close to the window.

    Convenient and spectacular location

    Car parking very tight after 5 pm (Friday evening); one lift out of order, inconvenient being on 4th floor.

    Staff were on the whole friendly and food was very good

    Room was overheated to the point of excess, no reservation was held when we arrived, moved room and constant dripping outside room as well as being very very hot, fans provided but still uncomfortable and unable to sleep. Room keys kept stopping working so not a brilliant experience really!

    Staff were helpful and welcoming. They went out of their way to answer our queries. The food was good, and there was plenty of choice.

    Room was smaller than we expected, and the bathroom was rather narrow and tight.

    Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Service was very good and the location was brilliant for visiting local attractions. Easy bus routes meant parking was not an issue when visiting attractions.Also perfect for a day trip to Isle of Wight

    Not the hotels fault but a shame the pier don't switch thier flashing lights off at say midnight

    Good service, attentive staff.

    Room great, needs blackout curtains it was like trying to sleep with lights shining in your face all night, also the whineing noise for the lights kept us awake all night.

    "we did complain in the morning about the lack of sleep from discomfort and noise and they did reduce the bill by 50% the hotel has a nice situation and perhaps if we had a room at the front of hotel it may have been more pleasant. The people were nice the evening meal we had was nice but comfort in the room and parking were awful. would only stay again if guaranteed parking and front of hotel room" (107171525)

    good breakfast, good service from friendly staff

    absolutly no parking available it was completly full when we arrived at 5.30pm and had to walk a very long way from street parking with bags. The room was large and nice enough although reading light not working. we had been stuck at back of hotel and the views were shocking. it was very noisy and impossible to sleep we think it must have been a boiler or similar. The sheets were clean but the blankets and bedspread were badly stained, The bed was very uncomfortable and we could feel all the springs

    The Hotel was clean, warm and comfortable and the bedroom was maintained to a very good standard.

    1 of the 2 lifts was not working during the duration of my stay. The male Maitre 'd was efficient and attentive but the same did not apply to his female stand-in who seemed out of her depth even when the Restaurant was quiet. Some of the waiting staff were clearly not English and some had a very poor grasp of our language. One does not order Coffee at Breakfast and expect to get Tea! Furthermore, at a laid table, one expects a milk jug with milk in not, in one case no jug at all and on the next one with a dribble in the bottom. Finally, I felt that the standard of the food was mediocre and to have the same menu every night is fine for one-night stopovers but nopt for guests staying longer. Was the Chef unable to cope with a "special" or two each night?
