    Friendly, helpful staff. Informal atmosphere. Nice view over river. Good food (and beer). Reasonably priced.

    The bed was comfortable, but the four-poster frame creaked quite a lot!

    Quaint feeling to hotel. Good food. Good staff.

    Noise from disaffected youth outside hotel at night, though the hotel staff did their best to calm them and move them on.

    "The Hotel generally is tired but of course very old. For the cost of the stay when booking the facilities were okay. However, the total cost of two nights when booked was £68, the bill upon leaving, with no additional costs incurred, was £98 so this was very disappointing." (107340111)

    The staff were very helpful. Food was good.

    Overall appearance was a disappointment from when I came with my parents 40 odd years ago. Breakfast on the second morning was poor as the hot food was a buffet affair when on the first day my cooked breakfast was cooked to order.

    Not many really, parking was good

    Hotel was grubby and room was not clean enough. The whole hotel could do with a thorough refurb, that said there is no excuse for rooms not being clean. Shower would also not get hotin the evening. Food was ok, but ur order was not correct.

    Very pleasant surroundings and staff, food was excellent

    Hotel needs a little tlc in places and heating system is inadequate for the cold conditions experiecned lately, the staff were quite happy to supply extra heaters if necessary and the weavery cold the night of our stay

    "I have stayed here 3-4 time in the past 3 years and I feel let down by staff professional behaviour and timings to get breakfast, I will be looking at other hotels in the future." (107492631)

    Rooms clean and tidy, easey access to car park and location of hotel.

    Staff member complaining during the breakfast service about other staff members in clear ear shot of customers. 8 customers including me waiting for breakfast in the morning and it took 20 minutes before having order taken even for tea/coffee.

    Found condom rapper on arrival of room, you had to have the bath tap running cold to get hot water out of the shower, a bucket in the hall way to catch water from the leaking roof and the cleanliness of the hotel was all round poor!

    "Friendly staff who work hard. Room standard with maintance needs to be addressed. We liked the bedroom in the old section of hotel.Some cupbards had old equipment stored in it in public areas. Would like to stay again, but other hotel is being refurbished." (107252969)

    Location and history of area. Hotel age and bar area and garden.

    Some damp in room and bathroom on walls. Breakfast options and quality of food served. Some chairs to high for tables. Lounge area tables not cleaned.

    The hotel is old but has character which makes it a much more enjoyable experience than a modern purpose built Premier Travel Lodge type place. The meals, both breakfast and dinner were very good.

    The room was dingey. The staff in the restaurant were pleasant enough but slow.

    rooms were spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable after a day driving

    the restaraunt was understaffed, only one waitress, she did her best but this meant long waits and somethings were forgotten. Vacated tables were not cleared. Breakfast was a different matter and was excellent

    The room was good with an excellant bathroom. The corridors were in need of a freshen up and the garden, paths and car park had not seen a brush for a long time.

    The service of breakfast was from a self help buffet, however the kitchen staff did not seem to know how many to cook for and the wait for food was far too long causing a lot of hostility from the diners.

    "We were without exception disappointed by our stay. As a group of adults attending a local event we would not recommend this hotel to friends or family, due to the attitude of the staff. We realise that as they would be losing their jobs in the near future they had little incentive to co-operate, but as visitors willing to spend a lot of money in the bar this hotel did not enhance the reputation of Thetford generally. (However, the food and service in the Mulberry was superb, and we would highly recommend this friendly restaurant.)" (97850090)

    We were able to negotiate a cooked breakfast 15 mins earlier than the weekend scheduled time. The receptionist and breakfast waitress were polite and friendly.

    The bar staff and night porter were unhelpful. No drinks were available in the guest lounge. One couple belonging to our party ate in the hotel and reported the food was terrible, so none of the rest of us ate there. The hotel overall was dusty and dingy. We were told that it had been taken over and staff were losing their jobs, which accounted for the run-down state of the place and the appalling attitude of the bar staff and night porter, particularly on Sunday night.

    Staff did their best. A lovely breakfast. Nice Bar to eat or drink in.

    Hotel wasn't aware of our booking which was worrying on our arrival. They then booked us in straight away. We were dissapointed in our room as it wasn't what we had expected after viewing the website. The Room slightly dusty and one of the milks were 'off' when I made a drink. We expected to be staying in a 'character' room as pictured on website but it was just an ordinary hotel room like you would stop the night in if you were passing through. We had booked this hotel for our Anniversary. Our second dissapointment on arrival, was to find that we had to vacate our rooms by 8.45 due to mainternance being carried out the following morning. A leisurely morning was important to us so this also went against a relaxing break. All in all, we were upset due to all of this. Lastly I found it difficult to sleep due to noise from below our bedroom window continuously all night, not sure what it was, a mechanical device of some sort.

    "The pictures on the internet did not reflect any parts of the hotel as they are today. The second car parking area was very basic but this side of the hotel was the first part we saw and let the hotel down. I was dissapointed with the value for money. It was not what I expected from seeing the pictures on the internet. The tea/coffee facilities were good although the kettle could do with a clean. Overall the staff were very friendly and if it was not for them, something would have been said at the time." (97226107)

    The lounge area was warming, the reception staff welcoming and the garden area looked nice on one side of the hotel.

    Some parts of the hotel are let down by poor decoration e.g need for a coat of paint. The matress in the hotel room was very soft an therefore not comfortable. The tap on the bath was leaking and old limescale all around plug and taps area. Generally the bedroom and corridoors are crying out for repair. Bedding seemed very old and therefore did not give impression it was clean.

    Friendly, helpful staff & ghost stories !

    Bed linen was vulgar in colour (like my Grandma's sheets)- room would be so much more modern / attractive if it had new bed linen and curtains. Lack of atmosphere in the hotel bar (unless Betty the ghost was around!)

    "As a B&B it's fine. Just don't ever use the restaurant for dinner. Starters took over an hour to arrive, then were so awful we sent them back. Mains were microwaved rubbish. We refused to pay. The waitress at the bar was excellent as was the young man in charge of the restaurant, it would just appear the chefs are totally useless. Oh, and Thetford really is a god awful place, not even a Costa Coffee or anywhere resembling a decent coffee shop. One thing just about saves it though - The Mulberry - which is an excellent restaurant that serves enourmous portions. Great!" (97333879)

    "The general ambiance felt good. Our room appeared worn and a little shaby but adequate for a quick night. However there was a complete lack of any understanding of customer service at breakfast. Rude and intimidating calling out across the dinning room and stating that making another jug of coffee was 'not worth it'just for us!     Loved the old and cosy atmosphere. location was good for shopping and walks. Staff very pleasant and helpful

    Although an old hotel I do believe that there could be improvements made regarding the general paintwork,carpets etc.
