    "This was a return visit having stayed overnight approx 6 years ago. We were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the rooms very comfortable. We were aware of the parking problem before we arrived so were prepared but were able to park within easy reach of the hotel.The food was delicious and we will definately be making a return visit."     Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.

    Poor car parking that was not adequately explained in advance. Unable to book an evening meal in the restaurant as it was full, normally you would expect to be advised of any need to book which I was not.

    Very nice room design - small cottage, with lounge downstairs and bathroom and bedroom upstairs. Staff were very pleasant and curteous.

    Room was described as "superior", but furnishings and decoration were average. telephones did not work. Staff, although curteous, were not very well trained in dealing with guests - e.g. arrived for breakfast at 9.00 am told told "not sure if breakfast was still being served" - not told what time breakfast would finish.

    The staff were very friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile. The food was very good indeed.

    Our room was just above the kitchen and consequently a bit too warm during the night.

We use the hotel to have lunch time parties for up to 16 guests, which is very convenient in the reception area and adjoining restaurant. Such meals are good quality and reasonably priced.     Nice touches such as decanter of sherry and fruit as well as the coffee/tea making facilities.

    Shower pressure was rather variable.

    "The entrance was a little confusing to find, but when we did so what a little gem it turned out to be. The hotel was clean, friendly, quiet and comfortable. As we were attending a wedding, the only meals we had in the hotel were breakfasts, which were excellent! If we were to visit the area again we would definitely stay at the Lake Isle Hotel again and recommend it to others." (3304934815)

    Food was very nice (Breakfast only). Room was comfortable. Sherry & biscuits were a nice touch. Shower was nice and powerful.

    Car parking was limited. Wood floor in bathroom was beautiful-however it became very slippery when wet. Towel rail in bathroom was hanging off.

    "I feel the pictures on the website do not do it justice. I actually by passed it several times but kept coming back to it. I think it should have a photo of the front of the hotel... maybe an evening shot with the restaurant lights. I am so glad I decided to give it a chance, a real little gem." (3305132728)

    The room was lovely. Very quaint and when I had checked out the hotel on the internet it actually showed the room we stayed in.... very pleased! The restaurant was lovely, the food was excellant! and the staff were wonderful, friendly & polite.

    Just one comment, the toilet in the room could have done with a little extra TLC ( just a bit of bleach maybe )

    "We booked the Lake Isle since our first choice the Whipper Inn at Oakham was full, and were absolutely delighted with everything about the Hotel; it looks a bit unprepossessing from the front but is a true 'little gem' and all the staff were charming despite being busy. The Restaurant is nothing flashy to look at but the food and service was excellent. For the price - it's amazing value for money." (3305009272)

    A really quirky hotel which looked great from the outside and was obviously well kept. Whilst we had a standard room which was quite small, everything was in working order. The breakfast was lovely and a nice to change to order food rather than have a buffet.

    Did feel the standard of the bath towels did not match the bed linen.

    "Although there were the above quibbles, we couldn't rate the staff highly enough. The girls were so friendly, polite and helpful. We do also suggest a more varied menu. Whilst the food was good quality, we found it rather pretentious after a while and found ourselves hankering after ham and eggs or a nice juicy steak." (3304522797)

    The cheerful staff, especially Abbey and Karen who we got to know quite well. They couldn't do enough for us.

    Just a few quibbles really, though our stay would have been all the more enjoyable if they could have been rectified! 1) We would have expected a bedside lamp for each table as my mother and I had booked into a twin room. We would have liked a nice reading lamp for each side so we could read when we wanted etc. Instead, we had a rather ugly glaring lightbulb with which to contend. 2) Not enough hanging space or shelves for a twin room. 3) Cracked wash basin. 4) We were so looking forward to our complimentary sherry in the room which I had read about. But on arrival, the previous occupants had beaten us to it and the decanter hadn't been replenished so I had to ask.

    "The staff were friendy and helpful. I stayed in The cottage opposite the hotel, a small terraced accomadation which has it's own lounge. This was comfortable and had all I needed. I ate out at the local Chinese restuarant and watched a football match, which I particularly wanted to see at The Globe pub which has SKY sports. If the hotal had had SKY I'd have probably eaten in the restaurant. The breakfast was very good." (3304484394)

Some of the evening cooking was over-elaborate, and the grapefruit juice advertised as fresh tasted like it wasn't, but mostly good food, consisting of good fresh ingredients cooked to a high standard. Missing flex for kettle in room, but hotel provided tea on room service without charge. All staff were generally very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Recommended."     "We knew nothing about the area before and were pleased about the setting of the hotel in such a pretty little town. The staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home immediately. The room was clean, warm and comfortable with excellent facilities. We particularly enjoyed the food in the restaurant. It was so good we had breakfasts and dinner there, and one lunch. The only drawback was that the parking was a little awkward, but in a historic town such as Uppingham, I think that cannot be helped. My husband and I had a really lovely weekend break."     Excellent location. Room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Complimentary sherry and fruit.

    Only one bath towel and no toilet paper. A little disappointed with the restaurant, after an enjoyable first course, the main course was particularly bland and when this was brought to the waiter's attention, he announced that nobody else had complained?

    "On arrival the hotel was a little difficult to find because it was a Sunday and the restaurant was closed. It would have been useful to have instructions about where it was. But a note had been left for me and the young man who greeted me was extremely helpful and made me feel very welcome and comfortable." (2779624)

    I liked the pretty and cosy room with sherry and biscuits, and found breakfast delicious. The bathroom was sparkling clean.

    The room would have been quite small for two people and the fire door at the top of the stairs always seemed to be open. I think it got stuck on the carpet.

    "Access to the hotel is via a side alley to the rear of the building, however the entrance is well signposted and certainly adequate. On arrival you walk into the bar area to be greated by very warm and curteous staff. They take you straight up to your room, show you the facilities and make sure there is nothing you require.( You can order a morning pape with the staff when you check in) The rest if the time is yours to enjoy the room or the area which you are visiting. After a certain time the front door to the hotel is locked (they have no night porter as the hotel is small) You are provided with a key to the front door along with your room key so access anytime is not a proble. On check-out, they present you with the bill and make sure your stay was a pleasant one. Again, very friendly staff and always smiling. I would certainly recommend the hotel to anybody." (2671452)

    My accomodation was elegant, yet functional. The bed I found was very comfortable. The Bathroom was very large with the nicest shower I have ever used. Very good for business or a romantic weekend.

    Overall I was very pleased with the hotel. I feel it is being run just right.
