    "This is my third stay here. It's my first choice out of any hotel in the Derby area. Good food, comfortable rooms and great location put it way above anywhere else." (108918763)

    The thing that makes this place is the staff. They're all extremely polite, helpful and efficient. The location is wonderful. Only a few hundred yards off the A6 but it could be in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are large and comfortable. The restaurant is very good but a bit limited if you're there for more than a few days.

    The worst thing is the lack of mobile phone signal. You have to stand out in the car-park to have a conversation (on Vodafone at least). Otherwise, the only fault is that the bathrooms are a little dated.

    All staff were very helpful and courteous

    When we went into breakfast we found the plates to be cold and as the food was in a warmer with tea lights under that wasn't too warm, but eatable and well cooked

    Lovely hotel nice to relax somewhere which isnt London

    When checking in was given a key and twenty minutes later someone else was checked into the same room as I was lying on the bed watching television which was quiet a Surprise

    Nice building and setting.

    Very old fashioned room and bathroom suite. No ironing facility in the room. Bathroom tiles needed re-fixing and grouting due to movement. Shower curtain was broke and not a corner bath shower curtain. Door stop was mounted centrally in the room, constantly forming a trip hazard. Was waiting at reception for 20 minutes before attended to, 1 other person checking in at the time. When checking out was waiting for 10 minutes before any staff even appeared!

    "What a gem. Great location and a very nice hotel, full of character. It was a shame that there was no area for smokers outside - having to walk through a group of them to get to the front door. The room was well appointed, clean and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a great stay and good value for money." (97210254)

    Wonderful character in the main hotel. Good views of the countryside. Quiet location.

    Shower was not that powerful. No facilities for smokers outside (so they all congregate by the front door).

    "Would have liked more choice for evening menu perhaps a more affordable menu other than a la carte, for business people staying a few nights expensive menu on top of the price of rooms, we chose to eat in a local restaurant down the road for a fraction of the price of our first meal at the hotel and a much wider choice of food."     Accomodation clean although had to be moved when first arrived because of strong smell in room.

    smokey fire smell in corridors leading to rooms off putting first thing in morning.

    The food that we ate in the hotel was cooked to perfection, and the restaurant staff were excellent.

    The first night of our stay there was no heating. We were chilled through to the bone, in spite of an extra small heater being provided.We have come home with very heavy colds. Our friend Mrs. Baxter was not even offered an extra heater. We did complain, as did other guests. We were surprised to find there was no senior staff on duty for us to make a more formal complaint. It would influence our decision to stay with you again.

    very appealing to the eye, clean crisp sheets and good sized rooms.

    nothing, only to say that the heating outside our room was on making it very hot. hairdryer didnt work.

    The setting was really lovely and it was easy to see why it would be a popular wedding venue.

    The lighting in the bedroom was poor. The hotel had an enviromental policy but didn't seem to implement it eg. there was no notice in the bathroom about towels and ours would have been changed every day if we hadn't stopped the maid on our first day. this is wasteful and uneccessary

    "The hotel is set in lovely surroundings with a large garden area which in the summer must be very nice to sit out in. Our room was in the main part of the hotel & was very large and nicely furnished with the largest bed I have ever seen. Our breakfast was very good & we shall have to return sometime to try the restaurant in the evening." (97680772)

    "Going over the weekend will mean that you will most probably have to contend with a number of wedding parties. We saw 3 in 3 days. This did not interfere with our stay as they were seperate, however we did not feel completely comfortable in exploring our surroundings as we may have popped up in one or two wedding photos."     "Breakfast was served in a different place each morning, which made for a change of scenery each time but did take a little finding (via reception). Each setting was superb though, as were your serving staff. The digital TV reception was a little bit temperamental but as we were stopping to tour around the peak district the Tv was only needed for News and Weather. The bathroom had one or two rough edges, light fitting and one or two cracked sharp edged tiles in the shower. However to the pair of us these are all very minor details and the attitude, attentiveness and general happy helpful attitude of your staff towards us was far more important. Your reception staff certainly deserve a special mention, as the 'shopfront' of your hotel they never seem to stop smiling!" (99460752)

    Large room, best bed I've ever slept in.

    Hotel had a couple of leaks in roof, especially the conservatory, the weather was exceptionally wet though and the drips during evening dinner were quite amusing.

    Clean with friendly staff. Overall a pleasant stay.

    chairs in room worn and bath panel damaged, also restaurant moved around and not as shown in brochure due to 2 weddings. Meals (especially evening) lacked atmosphere.

    "We attended a wedding reception at the hotel. What we needed was a room in which to freshen up and to sleep. Because of this, we did not have time to check room service and other leisure activities. Nonetheless, our stay was enhanced by a clean and comfortable room, friendly helpful staff, the great atmosphere and good food. If I had to find fault with the room, a shaver socket in the bathroom would have been useful. If I had to find fault with the hotel, the checkout process could easily be made smoother and more efficient." (3304740231)

    Comfortable and quiet room. Good food. Friendly and helpful staff.

    Check-out could have been smoother. There were long waits at the busy time.

    "Room was beautiful and large. Plenty of room for a toddler to run around in. We booked a family room and I think they gave us a suite with a cot for the baby. First king sized bed we got in the UK! The hotel grounds were vast and beautiful. If we are back in the area, we will definitely stay here again." (99807252)

    Excellent atmosphere and lovely surroundings. Comfortable bedding cotton sheets, duck down/feather duvets and furnishings. All very cosy

    There were two wedding parties on the Saturday so bar facilities were restricted and some individuals were a little noisy. In fact someone obviously drunk, tried to get into our room

    "Overall we enjoyed our stay and we would book again. The hotel is set in a beautiful landscape. Our room was large, clean and well equipped. The low point was the cooked English breakfast. The scrambled eggs and sausage were inedible and they had clearly been reheated. It was replaced." (99305085)

    The room was large, spotlessly clean, well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Even though a wedding celebration was in progress we experienced no noise or other disturbance.

    The lack of an electric shaver point and an inefficent extractor in the bathroom.

    "Hotel great, had booked a double room which we got a very large bed. We also had a large bathroom and a walk in wardrobe wow, no issues at all. Evening meal really nice, thought that " (99869146)

    The hotel was lovely, the bedroom was very comfortable the hotel staff couldn't do enough for us. Even to being able to ask for fresh milk for the tea tray in the room(which was brought to the room within seconds. We ate evening meal in the hotel which was nice.

    "Upon arrival we noticed that there was a wedding party on and we was not advised of this when we booked, the problem we found with this was we felt we could not use the bar because of the wedding party and the same applied after the evening meal.     Not terribly clean, no natural light, shower ran out of water, food mostly unavailable
