  "The food was of a high standard but l would have preferred to have had a choice. As it happened what was offered was to my liking. l do not like sharing a table with strangers but the people we met were very pleasant so it didn't matter on this occasion. The owners give a great deal of thought to the food and wine they provide. The tableware and linen were all of highest quality which is not found in many places. For this reason l think it is a hotel which would appeal more to older clientele. l would prefer to know what the seating arrangements for dinner are as l do not want to be forced to be sociable."   "should state: one menu only; only one table for all guests, dogs and cats in the house !" (99458873)

  Location and room

  Cats,dogs, only one menu - no choice, no seperate table to dine or have breakfast, feeling of bordingschool was apparent.

  "We have stayed at the Wellview before and always enjoyed it.The food is fantastic and the service excellent.We have not been abke to book online before, and I found this worked well this time." (3304735716)

  Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Quiet.

  Up two flights, which was difficult for elderly visitors.

  owners extremely friendly - house very clean + attic room very nice indeed. Has encouraged us to look into doing our own attic room.

  shower - because it was an attic room - water trickled and had to hold shower head at knee height for water.

  "The hotel provided a suitable overnight stay. One of the reasons for choosing Well View was the excellent reports of the food. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were informed that the kitchens were not operating. Had we known this prior to our trip we would have selected a different hotel. The cost of the room at £90 was expensive." (1842398)

  "Friendly and well informed hosts.Small and efficient hotel.The evening meal was delicious and the choice of wines excellent.The room was comfortable.We took out two dogs with us and they would have been allowed into the hotel but we chose to let them sleep in our estate car.The hotel had a very pleasant garden."   "The prices quoted on the website were slightly misleading in that the quoted figure wasn't available in peak season. Our room was only slightly more expensive than the quoted price and all other information was 100% accurate. I was surprised to receive a phone call from the hotel manager a day or two after booking, to find out if we required an evening meal and to enquire about our dietary preferences so they could design their menu accordingly! The staff were also very flexible when I telephoned them on the day to let them know our arrival time would be later than anticipated. The welcome was warm and informal, and we were able to sit straight down to one of the best dinners I've had in ages. At £30 per head plus wine and drinks this added to the cost of the stay, but no more so than it would have done if we'd gone out to eat, and the quality of the food and wine (and malt whisky afterwards) easily justified the extravagance! They have a recommendation in the Good Food Guide and it's not difficult to see why. Our room was a little warm but otherwise very comfortable, and extra touches like sherry and shortbread in our room made for a very cosy welcome. Breakfast was adequate (I'm told that the full Scottish is splendid, although being a non-carnivore I can't testify to this at first hand!) and unhurried, and on the whole there was nothing to fault. It's probably worth a mention that this isn't just an impersonal hotel where you eat, and then disappear to your room. Impromptu after-dinner gatherings of guests in the lounge seem to be the norm, and it meant we were guaranteed some very enjoyable conversations with the other guests well into the evening. The service was attentive, but never fussy, and the whole ethos is of a place well worthy of more than one visit!" (1343380)
