    "The hotel is at the center of Cambridge, so it's well located for city walks (beautiful). A bit on the expensive side for the quality and age of the rooms." (108645881)

    Excellent welcome of staff and quick check-in at the reception desk. Magnificant breakfast hall and very good breakfast. Room: correct.

    Very slow service at the hotel restaurant The 17. It took 40 minutes betewwn ordering and geting our first course ( a hamburger with coleslaw) and dessert was only forthcoming 20 minutes after finishing the first course.

    Central location; excellent breakfast; good public areas. Hotel staff coped with the booking crisis (see below) very well.

    The hotel had NO RECORD of the booking I had made through ActiveHotels; had the hotel not had a room available I would have been spending my first evening in Cambridge trying to find somewhere to stay.

    efficient staff.

    this is a very tired hotel.The rooms are shabby and need refurbishing.the public rooms need redecorating also.I understand this hotel is being upgraded soon,not before time. the restaurant is soulless and is not at all inviting.

    Lovely breakfast, lots of fresh choice.

    Lack of car parking and the fact you charge when you are staying in the hotel overnight. Room was a little snug and the corridors need a coat of paint.

    lovely old world charm; no music in the breakfast room! Very central - terrific breakfast (included in room price)

    parking at £14 a night is excessive. Hotel needs an facelift (but not I hope at the cost of the lovely ambience)

    Staff was very courteous, friendly and accomodating. Room was very comfortable.

    Room needs updating. Should provide free wireless internet access for customers (I received this in another UK hotel)

    Large room with three beds, suitable for my family. Clean and tidy room. Very old-fashioned, but working bathroom. Pleasant staff. Lovely entrance. Good parking.

    Room in urgent need of redecoration! We had a meal on the first night at the hotel restaurant. The meal took a rediculous amount of time to arrive - I felt very sorry for the waitress. The portion of my daughter's main course was exactly the same size as the starter version ordered by the lady on the next table. Breakfast was OK, but my full Cambridge was almost cold when it arrived at the table. Very disappointing as part of the reason we stayed in a hotel was to enjoy some good food.

    Nice, clean and spacious room.

    Check in do need to inform guests of breakfast arrangements. I was never told. Also, I do not think you should be asking people to record if they are a same-sex couple. This no doubt is just for your records BUT since it is an element of discrimination legislation AND as you don't record any other related information it actually could cause you problems. I really would advise you take that option off. You don't need it. I would also say that the service in the restaurant was very good BUT the service was slow and the food was over-priced in relation to portions. There was too much focus on presentation of the food as well at the cost of actual quality.

    Friendly staff, good size room, good size TV, good breakfast

    Heating was playing up and had an electric fan in the bedroom, which didnt work to start with, but after putting the batteries in the right way round, we were nice and warm

    convenient to city centre. Good when you get a room overlooking the green. value when you get special deals car parking just about adequate

    room not available until 3pm. unfortunately the 'hot' breakfast was not at all hot-I did go down just after 8am.

    Public rooms are well maintained and had good atmosphere.

    Car parking is expensive and inadequate. Reservation got lost in hotel's computer system. Bedrooms are scruffy/tired and in need of updating and decoration. Our room was very noisy – my wife was kept awake until 3am by groups of smokers outside our window. The cooked breakfast delivered to our room was cold.

    All staff extremely helpful and very friendly

    cracked windows in room - freezing. No proper radiator but a very noisy blow heater that wasn't very hot. I had to request another heater temp was -10degrees that night. Breakfast was brought to my room and it was cold.

    "The University Arms is one of those hotels that you know was splendid in its day but has perhaps faded a bit. That being said, the room was functional and pleasant - the beds there are always very comfortable - there was some redecoration required in the room - people are pleasant and helpful.     heating system in room did not work - mobile radiator was provided carpet felt wet as if it had been washed and not dried extremely expensive bar - £8.75 for a single glass of fairly ordinary wine - this is ridiculous

    The beds were very comfortable. The service in the breakfast room was excellent. The breakfast was very good especially the cooked breakfast, fresh and hot.Overall the food was very good.

    The drainage in the bath and hand sink was sluggish. I reported it to reception but it wasn't sorted by the time we left. The decor in the lift seemed a bit tired.

    Helpful and friendly staff; comfortable bed

    Tired decor both in corridors and in rooms. The first room that I was shown to was cramped, dark, dingy, had ripped wallpaper in the bedroom, dreadful view and smelled badly of cigarette smoke. However, once I complained I was given a larger and nicer room although the standard of decor generally was poor. Noisy on saturday night due to weddings/functions but a letter was put under our door to warn us.

    "We booked under a summer promotion, so weren't expecring a large room, however the bath/shower had black mould and our room wasn't cleaned properly when we checked in. The general interior of the hotel could do with some redecorating and looked worn and shabby. The response of room service was very fast, but at breakfast the next morning we were given a table with coffee stains over it and the staff were disorganized. The hotel served our needs because of its central location, but we wouldn't stay there again." (107130440)

    Staff very helpful - we left some items in the room after check out and the reception staff acted quickly to ensure they were found and held at reception for us to collect.

    Room very small and smelt musky - TV not working - air con did not work, we had to opened the window - woken by road works that started very early on the Sunday morning, if we had been told we would have stayed at another hotel ? this was my girlfriends birthday and it was ruined

    A truly 'grand' hotel in a very convenient location, with quiet views

    Outside paintwork in serious need of renovation. Some small technical problems (eg TV switch)

    "Staff helpful, polite and friendly. Decor very shabby and the hotel looked very tired and in need of an update. Hotel not very clean, the glass doors were filthy, wallpaper was peeling off the walls, I found a toenail on the floor near the skirting board after the cleaner had been in (not mine!), the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and the general look of the bathroom was old and worn. I have stayed at The Grand in Brighton, another De Vere hotel, and this hotel was like its much poorer relation. I would not recommend this Hotel because i don't think it provided value for money, however, the location was excellent." (97268917)
