    "We stayed in this hotel to be near our daughter. We have stayed in other hotels in Cambridge (further away) which were much better. Next time we will return to the De Vere which is slightly more expensive, but much better." (108892740)

    The foyer was smart, clean and attractive. It has a car park and is close to the city centre.

    Contrary to the reservation confirmation, the rooms were drab and very small. The curtains were worn out and stained. The toilet had problems, although they moved us to another room (equally drab).

    "Disappointing for the money we paid. Had just stayed in a 5 star Guest house which was far superior and had smoked salmon and scambled egg for breakfast, plus cooked and continental and was fantasically clean and comfortable. " (107906478)

    Service good - staff made us feel welcome.

    Bedroom in need of refurbishment, no papers offered, asked for a kipper but was given haddock.. no kippers available.. dining area v. dusty.. making own tea/coffee difficult as it was so low down under the television.

    Comfortable, clean and very good food. Rest of party also very satisfied

    Unable to turn the radiater off/down so room was very hot. Staff member did come to try to turn it off but was not successful

    Staff were very helpful and courteous in the restaurant. Birthday cake was innovative, much admired and very good

    Could not get any HOT water out of the shower, only cold. Food varied from excellent to adequate. My sea bass was a very thin fillet, fried in too much fat and surrounded by 'grass' soaked in too much fat. Would have preferred a healthier option. Other members of the party enjoyed their dinner.

    Staff were very helpful, especially as we were a large group of 14 people

    The lift was unreliable, and didn't go to the 3rd floor.

    "The staff are polite and helpful from the moment of arrival. The rooms are clean and spacious with very comfortable beds. There is a spacious car park and the Fitzwilliam museum and colleges are two minutes walk away." (97709639)

    Room was clean. All equipment worked. The ducks in the bath!

    Room was a little cramped, and cool (due to ill-fitting windows).

    Period building, good location, good staff

    Rather expensive compred to many European hotels I have stayed in recently, and with less facilities. This is also the first time that free internet connection was not available as stanard.

    "As stated on the form filled in at the hotel we found the staff exetremley unhelpful eg. we had to wait until a table became free at breakfast and once one did we were not asked if we wanted tea/coffee in fact i had to stop a waiter myself which i found very unproffessional.Another example was when i waited at the bar having flicked the switch for attention to only have the waitress servr the person in front of me and then promptly leave the bar prior to serving myself.The bar meal we ordered came without the side dish and had to wait 10 mins. before it arrived having had to chase it up" (97143574)

    plenty of space although we suspect it was staff accomodation since the accomodation had a kitchen/dining area and living room

    there was continual water hammer noise through the bedroom, approx every half hour thus very little sleep was achieved and certainly did not make for a relaxing weekend stay

    "Good accomodation, well-located, efficient and friendly staff and excellent rooms and breakfast. Good communications. More set meals, i.e. lunch and dinner possibly doubtful. However, we would stay again. Perhaps the fact that it was a heavy Christmas Eve put the hotel under extra strain---but a good hotel should be aware that it is at times like these that it will be under the closest observation and at the highest pressure."     Comfortable room and friendly staff. Hotel well-located for seeing Cambridge and easy access to M-ways. Good bar. Coffee and tea always available. Comfortable lounge. Most TV Channels.

    Our only complaint was about Christmas Eve. The food served for the Christmas Eve dinner was largely awful, especially the beef. My wife sent hers back. We wrote that off as a bad night with perhaps a holiday staff, though the chef did visit us. Breakfasts were excellent so perhaps Christmas Eve was a one-off. To put it simply, we would stay again at the RC but not eat dinner there.

    "Surprisingly, Cambridge is poorly served by hotels. The Royal Cambridge is probably the best of a poor bunch. It's perfectly adequate but would probably have to work harder if there was any real competition." (99210525)

    Staff: charming and helpful. Breakfast: not gourmet but generous. Room: clean and efficient.

    The hotel has an old-fashioned feel. Could benefit from a makeover - lighter, brighter, airier colours, less dark wood and swirly carpets.

    "Once the confusion about the room, alarm call and newspaper were sorted out, the hotel was exactly as we had imagined. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was clean. Bathroom was good, with adequate toiletries. We were only going to stay for one night, but the room was so lovely, we decided to stay for an extra night. The breakfast was delicious both mornings. The hotel is within a ten minute walk of the centre of Cambridge, so ideal for both shopping and sight seeing." (99934826)

    The double room was a generous size, comfortable, welcoming and pleasantly decorated. Mistakes were immediatley put right by hotel staff. The car park was easily accessed and free!

    Our alarm call didn't happen and the newspaper was not delivered. We were sent to the wrong room first of all, but this was immediately put right by another receptionist. The bar staff were unsure about the drinks stocked and obviously need a bit more training.

    "The location of the hotel is ideally placed on the edge of the historical center. There is a fair amount of Parking which is a massive bonus for anywhere in the centre of Cambridge. However, the room did get quite hot with no air conditioning. I would question the provision of three rubber ducks in the bath. I have my own rubber duck, thanks. His name is Noddy." (99764251)

    curtains tired and lining shredded, decor generally tired, TV in room did not have all advertised stations available. False fire alarm ealry in morning caused significant disruption

    Nothing

    The decor felt old, tired and cheap. The bedroom was very small for such a high price. The main areas felt more like a horrible pub than a hotel. The staff were surly, did not greet us politely, seemed bored and fed up and unhappy.
